I just bought this MOBO, It is very nice. I have the i5 750 in it now I plan on upgrading this board with an i7.  If it's in your budget buy it now. Waiting for Sandy Bridge is still months away. IF your satisfied with what you have then wait. Also will you still have the money then? I plan on eventually going to Sandy Bridge, but not when it is 1st released. I am going to wait a few months for the cost to come down.

@MrDikaios i5 750 is a quad core, i7 860 and 870 are quad cores. Also i7 920, 930, 940 etc are quad cores for 1366

thats weird on newegg the MSI P55-GD55 motherboard does not have that big chipset cooler, and the power and OC buttons are moved to the top right corner and single LAN it's almost a hole nother board what the heck...

X58 is way worth it over P55 because X58 is going to support i9 :D

i9 will use the 1366 socket, but there are rumors that current 1366 boards will nto be compatable, I think i9 requires more power or somethign because the EVGA Classified might work-I forget where I heard this though, so might be true

@Troothforc 1366 was originally a server socket. I don't like it, I like the 1156 better. The only thing you'll lose on p55 boards is the tripple channel memory but you won't notice that at all if you're runing fast memory.

by the time i9 is out and by the time most people can afford it there will be other technology out such as intel sandy bridge and u will probably upgrade ur whole system anyway. future proofing doesnt exist.

lol future proofing has never existed. I got X58 now and am onto audio shit, not as enthusiastic about computer upgrades. I just like to keep up to date with graphics cards.

I'm pushing my next brand new pc build a little bit later on (around feb 2011)

I'll be upgrading from an outdated AMD Athlon 64x2 6000+ (3.0ghz dual core) and a Nvidia 8800GT.

I really don't do any video editing or extreme software stuff. Mostly gaming(but nothing too hardcore) dvd ripping, burning and smth with lots of multitasking power that will last me quite a while.

Should i wait for like a sandy bridge/core i9 or just go with this board and maybe a core i7 860?

the 1156 socket is meant for the mainstream user, if you want to run x16 sli then get a 1366 socket board

not sure but i think this may be the only 1 that still has 2 ps2 jacks? gigabyte only has 1 but it can be used for both. I don't recall evga having any. and I don't give a rats ass about asus. don't really care about msi for that matter ether lol.

Too bad, only dual channel, if your going to bother with i7 you might as well go for tipple, it doest cost too much more and it makes a world of difference.

Re you a noob? All sockel 1156 had dual channel and supports i5 and i7 processers. The i7 for sockel 1156 is not the same as the one for 1366. Sockel 1366 supports tripple channel but gives you in practic nothing if you are planing to play games, barly in any application.

according to manufactures specs socket 1156 and 1366 both support triple channel ram. and some 1156 motherboards support ddr2 and ddr3 cause the slots are the same..... 240 pin slots

the memory controller on the 1156 socket is on the CPU so its limited to dual channel ddr3

The memory controller is on the CPU for the 1156 and 1366 socket but the triple channel is reserved for enthusiasts.

Impossible for them to support both ddr2 and ddr3 the notch in the memory is different on the ddr3.
