Both versions are just great. Johnny is my favorite, but that doesn't mean that I don't like Frankie, he's awesome. I'd love it if they could have performed it together. Don't know if that is possible.
why the nasty comments about Johnny Reid being a poor imitation? To be honest his version sounds just as good as Frankie's. Still, to me this has always been Frankie Miller's song since I first heard it many many years ago so he is the one who gets my vote here.
They're both very good, just different. Frankie's is really edgy, Fogarty-esque, while Johnny's is a little more refined, suggestive of his Canadian upbringing. However, drum roll, big point coming, since we are close to Robbie Burns night, you should all understand that BOTH of these artists are Scottish. Flowers of Scotland both, love 'em. Roy Williamson would have been proud.
Jonny boy! gud version & well sung kiddo, i like yout style. But comparin ye tae frankie,? No contest M8! Still like ye tho man!!! D.T > P/S I'm tryin tae play it like you, but canny find the chords written anywerrrrr!
Before I looked at this, I would have thought Johnny. Well now that I see Frankie - well my Mom used to have a saying "like water falling off a duck's back". It just pours out of Frankie! So natural! So soulful! Yup yup yup - Frankie gets my vote. :)
JOHNNY REID!!!!!!!! I love him :) I not a bog country girl though.... I met Johnny Reid on real life... At the golf classic on digby... I live in digby !! he gave me hi hat he wore and I go a pic of him with me ... :) haha and if anyone doesn't belive me... I don't care I know it's true.... anyway I like Johnny Reid better than the other guy ! cause the other guy doesn't sound good!
I wonder if this Johnny Reid guy ever mentions to his fans about copping this very similar version of Darlin" from the great Frankie Miller, who can't speak for himself anymore...
as billy said any person who wants to be apolutishun should be barred from evin thinking aboot it. wan thing i done i done was not fix sumfin thit wisnae broken. any eegit thit thinks they kin sing a song better thin frankie miller needs a head docter. i,m being kind. hail! hail!

both are great versions...i like frankies voice better, but i like the upbeat celtic ring johnny reids got going. johnnys music sound with frankies voice would sound pretty cool. frank takes it.....sorry johnny haha
Frankie Miller is a way better singer for the acoustics he had than Johnny Reid will ever be. I can tell by the comments I've read that you F***kheads don't know anything about music. all you listen too is what you wanna hear..........and you're probably Fucked up when ya hear it.
frankie miller is the best by far.........johnnny reid is doing a poor imitation of him. i prefer johnnys usual voice..........love to frankie.......the greatest
For 30 years I din't know who sang this song - I was given its record on a blank cassette by friend and I Liked it much all this years-and now I found that it was Darling by Frankie Miller. That's is masterpiece fro me.Johnny's imitation is very similar but Frankie is better IMHO.
Silly to compare especially on the basis of two such different recordings! Reid's is a modern studio track and Miller's is a live? recorded television appearance from years ago. Frankie would be at a disadvantage there. I have no vested interest in either artist, but sounds to me like Reid definitely heard Miller and was inspired by/influenced by him.
To me, each has its own uniqueness, something special. Both are right up there among the best versions of this classic song....they both are winners!!!
The best version of this song was the original, David Rogers. It was recorded by a few other Country artists as well. The original started with "Darlin, I'm feeling kind of lonsome" instead of the way it is here. Both of these versions are very good but I'm kind of biased toward David's version, I was in the studio in Nashville when it was recorded. It never sold well for him even though he had a great voice, I don't think it is even available any more.
I think Johnny Ried brought this song back to life after Barbara Mandrell sang it...He is so awesome...and his eyes...No words can describe what they do to me...
Why the debate? I love Johnny's voice better. However they both did an awesome job and it is a great song any way you cut it. They are both great singers in their own right.
I like them both :o) They each bring their own special "feel" to the song. When Frankie Miller sings it...it is with a raw n soulful quality. There are other videos on YouTube of him performing it...they are fantastic in my opinion!!! :o) :o) Frankie has alot of other great songs that he sings (both original & covers) He really is an amazing and underated artist...a very bluesy, "hurting" and ecclectic feel to his voice/sound...Just my thoughts :o) :o)
That's almost like asking, "Which bird sings sweeter, a canary or a turkey". DAH. JOHNNY would definately be THEE canary. Never heard of this Miller turkey and if I ever hear him again it'll be TOO SOON. I think he should take up acting though,,,,,all he needs is a pair of fangs and he'd make a perfect werewolf, the way he keeps tossing his head back and Howling at the moon.
You obviously know nothing about music. Frankie Miller has written more than 300 songs recorded by the likes of Ray Charles, The Eagles, Delbert McClinton,... and he sings with such great phrasing, gravel, and soul - he is just hard to top. Them's just the facts.
Is every1 out there tone deaf? Who is Johnny Reid anyway? Frankie Miller all the way, gr8 voice n u no it cums from the heart. Johnny is basically singin karaoke & getn paid 4 it
Who is Johnny Reid? Johnny won best male entertainer of the year at the Canadian Country Music Awards this year....His single "Woman Like You" is currently #1 across Canada and when the album was released it was certified gold in 48 hours. THAT'S who Johnny Reid is....You won't have to ask soon...everyone will know him.....But both versions of the song are very good.
