Reading these comments really brings back memories of old audio cassettes. The amount of times I opened them to fix them because they'd broken. Sticking broken ends of tape together using sellotape - terrible damage to the head of course! How primitive it seems now!
Those Memorex tapes were garbage. The mechanisms were unreliable and the pressure pads would deteriorate prematurely. The worst part is they glued the damn things together so you couldn't fix them.
I think this is 1974 but I could be wrong. But me and a friend of mine used to imitate her whenever the commercial came on while we were practicing our piano lessons as kids.
as everybody has sayd here, probably the worst the. maxell and TDK were the best, memorex was not just bad, it was really really bad :) Catchy slogan though
In europe Maxell ran some cool commercials with a guy in a orbusier chair blown away by sound pressure.. and posters with the same image
Memorex back then used a foam pressure pad, and over the years, the foam breaks down. And theres no way to replace it besides putting the tape in a new case.
And I sadly bought a lot of Memorex tape because it was always on sale, and stores like Wal-Mart and K-Mart didnt always carry Maxell or TDK until into the mid 80's.
I have few of the Memorex tapes from the early 80s with those foam pressure too. Also those Scotch Highlander cassettes from the 70s were that way too. I also have 3 pre-recorded cassette from 1974/75 with those foam pressure pads. Polygram used them too, but one that last.
It's amazing that anyone bought Memorex cassettes! They sounded horrible- lots of high-frequency drop out and distorted very easily. MAXELL was the only way to go for any type of audio recording!!
The other drawback to Memorex audio cassettes was, if the tape snapped in the casing, you couldn't "unscrew" it to repair it. You'd have to break the cassette apart to retrieve the tape, and THEN put it into another casing which HAD screws...from personal experience in the early '70s, I know this for a fact!
Ahhh yes Memorex, chunks of red oxide gunkiness coming off on all your tape guides and heads, wonderful blurry dull recorded in a trash can sound quality, those were the days!!!
Memorex were well known as being pretty low-quality, but this was a very effective ad campaign. I'm sure they realized that such exaggerated claims would never be challenged by the predominantly unsophisticated listeners buying their tapes. The rest of us bought Maxell TDK and Sony, or ignored cassette altogether and went for 1/4" RTR.
all my memorex mrx3 oxide tapes worn out have several audio dropouts comparable to 8tracks!!! That is why 80s Maxell and TDK tapes with the exception of ur xlii and sa-x are the best my all time favorite maxell tape is UDS-I and my all time favorite TDK is AD.
I remember when me and my friend would try to break our mother's crystal glasses with Memorexes. Needless to say it did not work, so we broke them anyway. We were out of our minds when we did this.

@mediattackrecords ...music business? Isn't that an oxymoron? Remember, musicians make money for the music, "stars" make noise for the money.

@mediattackrecords If one is to respect your opinion, then one needs ask, "What's yours of Ella?"

Maybe a few years later as that is a Type III cassette (Ferric-Chrome). Maybe more like 1977.
