  • one of the greatest games ever made. It has SOOOOO much atmosphere. The great artwork, soundtrack, and story come together beautifully here.

  • This was the first and only BOF game I ever played for the PS2 @u@ (I loved it, but my parents traded it in for another game, and I was like 'noooooo ;n;')

  • A masterpiece. One of the best VG tunes ever.

  • This was such a humble/modest game :P

  • This game might not be to everyone's tastes, but in saying that, I haven't had this much fun with an RPG since FF7, and 7 was the game that kicked off my gaming addiction so I don't say this lightly. An underrated and misunderstood classic.

  • This game is a classic. You can love it or hate it but it had some of the best music in a game today.

  • I think the reason that this game attracts so many haters is that

This should be a sequel of BOF serie, but it shows no connection with BOF at all.

What is this supposed to mean to us BOF fans?

It is like They made five Starwar film and let Godfather be the last sequel. No one would care if Godfather is the best film ever!(except for the one who never see Starwar, they would like it) It is just the most terrible thing for the fans who has wait for so long

  • So... so great....

  • I HATE HATE HATE HATE PAPA NUGGETS! D:

  • @Xotser BUT THEY R SO CUTE!

  • This was one my favorite BoF games..3 was my 3rd and and 4 was 1st. This is my second favorite :D

  • @snatcherofpeachs You prolly don't care, but when I first heard it, it sounded like someone was desperately searching for another, or that the person had died.... :c

  • ofcourse i care... one things for sure though. this is one awesome song and game. shame its so overlooked.

  • @snatcherofpeachs Sorry, there was a chance you may not have XD *hug*

Yeah it really is a shame, the stories themselves sounds so romantic (-5 guy points)

y'know? Like, the same 2 heroes are always fighting to be together. :c

Maybe they'll do a collection one day? Like Megaman?

  • @meisterification If they ever do put together a BoF collection(unlikely, Capcom has zero respect for this series), I hope this one is left out. Sorry. :(

  • @outlier1985

    Why? It's a great game.

  • @chubbiercherub I can't speak for the quality of it because while it may not be my cup of tea, I understand that other people have really enjoyed it, and I've heard plenty of good about it.

But my issue is that it isn't a Breath of Fire, to me. The only thing it has in common with the older games is the names of two of the lead characters. It's outside the established universe, storylines, timeline, everything. It just feels to me like some different game they stuck the BoF title on.

  • @outlier1985

I've never played the other Breath of Fire games, so i really can't say. Perhaps that is true, It's kinda sad tho since they prolly slapped the BoF title to sell more games and it only sold like 100,000 copies. I think It's way, way underrated. People seem to hate it's guts. But i think it's unfair. It's an unpolished gem on the ps2. It's not perfect, no. But at least it's trying something new.

  • @outlier1985 ACTUALLY... The whole game is rife with series references. From Ryu being a Ranger and partnered with Bosch (which was Bow's Japanese name), to Lin/Rin (Katt's Japanese name was Rinpo). Then there's the Momo-esque character and the fairies, who are almost exactly like the BoF3 fairies.

  • @usercommandkill References aren't a substitute for being part of the continuity. It makes plenty of references, sure, but it takes place in a separate universe, with no relation to the characters, factions or storylines of the original games. And that's a deal-breaker for me, personally.

  • @outlier1985

    Spoilers

Didn't they go off the ending of IV as if Ryu had agreed with fou lu and decided to kill the humans, which is what led to them being trapped underground, then fou lu(Chetyre) doesn't want them returning to the world, but Odjn(Ryu) does?

When you pick that ending in IV ryu/fou lu says "this is the right path" so I just kind of surmised that that must be why they are underground as they are. I haven't looked into the timelines or anything at all, just played the games.

  • @RuecianXII The only problems with that scenario are 1.) Breath of Fire 4's place in the continuity is shaky, but many see it as a prequel to the entire series.

and 2.) BoF5 has been officially stated as being in its own universe, with no connections to the continuity of previous games in any form. So it's more like a 're-imagining' of the series as a whole. And that's cool, just not my cup of tea.

  • @outlier1985 None of the final fantasy games are continuous at all, save for the prequels and sequels and whatnot, but it's the most popular RPG series in North America, and probably the second most popular RPG series worldwide. Many people don't believe that IV was related to the series either, but it's beloved by BOF fans. Personally, I loved BOFV, it sure had a different feel from the prior games, but, I think the PSX games felt different from the SNES games too. Not harassing you or anything

  • Sakimoto does it again. And again. And again and again and again.
