  • Scots n' Irish forever!!

I'm a Scot and I prefer the Corries version (of course) but this is a nice version.

    CELTIC forever

    xx

  • I love this song, I was raised listening to it. Despite it's sad lyrics it actually brings back fond memories for me!! :)

  • This is perfect.

  • what´s a wonderful irish song

  • @throttlejockey77 Truth be told it's more likely scottish...comes from Nova Scotia which was colonised by Scottish who are believed to have bought the song with them!

  • He was the man! Still is and always will be! god bless luke

  • tremendous stuff - thanks for putting this up, gives me goose-pimples does luke's voice

  • cant beat luke but have a look at the version by 'deidre bonner and malachi'. unbelievable

  • It's a grand song where ever it's from

  • Good ole Luke Kelly! x

  • to Flash - thanks for the memories mate

  • greatest irish singer ever

  • Irelands greatest son

  • Say whatever you like, that's one helluva great number.

  • beautiful folk singing.

  • Luke Kelly's very good at singing that Scottish song there. : D Nice.

  • dont ya mean irish cleary irish

  • I said what I mean. Thats why I said it. : )

  • some say its irish some say scottish even says on wikipedia that its canadian ,if you think of all the ppl that sing it most are irish

  • @shambles84 Most people who sing it are Irish because its a folk song, and lets face it, the Irish have a penchant for taking any folk song from anywhere, and all of a sudden, "its Irish".

Clue. This song is from the Islands. People need only do their research into the song to find out where it originates from. Wikipedia is bollocks anyway. xp

  • Whatever, it's Irish now! You're right, the Irish do have a way of taking folk songs and making them their own, because we're great musicians, and we make the songs sing even more. That's what musics all about, adaptation and adding your own personality to it. You're right though, it might originally be Scotrish, but you said it yourself, it's Irish now! (or maybe we can share it =-)

  • @mymakushla I personally don't agree with "making" a song originate from somewhere it did not actually originate from, simply because someone else sings it, or infact sings it better. If I painted a better Mona Lisa, that doesnt then mean the Mona Lisa originated in Scotland, thats all I'm saying. What I will say is, I like this version of the song for what its worth. I do, honestly like it.

  • @tw1stedgrudge Ok good point, you're right.

  • @mymakushla I always thought it was an Irish song, but I could be wrong.

    I remember this when I was a baby (I'm 42 now).

Let's call it a traditional CELTIC song, eh?

  • cela m'a fait très plaisir de retrouver cette magnifique chanson

on chantait bien dans les pubs à Dublin à,la fin des années 60....et j'y étais

  • They also have no heart, brain or love.

  • This is my father's favourite song, I remeber when he used to sing it. Sadly he's overcome with depression now so he no longer sings, everytime I hear this I am filled with saddness but at the same time happy its remarkable

  • Luke kelly is the fucking man!

  • people who do not like this performance have no soul

    beautifull

  • I find your view incredible! Luke Kely can't sing?

    Come on,wake up to reality!

  • You're kidding right?....Luke sang every single song with heart. How you can say he sounds like a drunk in a pub is beyond me, and frankly a little insulting.

  • Going by your name, youd rather listen to someone like Athenrye or Eire Og would you? *roll eyes*.... open your ears and listen to a genius at work.

  • THE most beautiful, wonderful, uplifting voice i have ever heard.

Luke Kelly sang like his life depended on it...he was born to sing and we may never again hear a singer who can affect the soul the way he can.

  • where i live their is a bridge and it is named the luke kelly bridge it was named after him after he had died

  • Wonderful.

  • I wish I were away in Ingo... :] this song is in the book Ingo :D amazing book!

  • I'd never heard this song before I read it, and I had an idea of how it sounded in my head, and its completely different to how it actually sounds xD

It is a beautiful book :)

    And song.

  • lol same

  • R.I.P luke legend of irish ballads

  • His voice is so peace giving... ^^

  • If I could only ever listen to one song by Luke, it would be this. Just listen to he timbre of that voice

  • This one is good, but I have an all gaelic version from Scotland ( CD "Back to Bara" )

    Its a great tune

  • You got that right, Ive listened to at least four other versions by various artists...not even close, this one could melt the coldest heart in the world!

  • Well to be fair, it is a great song. Not even the Corrs could ruin it, and I even use that version to try and ensnare musicaly challenged idiots.I do also believe that another version by the Dubliners was even better!.You can find it in "related videos" uploaded by Kellyoneill.

  • lol neohip, I just heard the Corrs version, I see what you mean. I like their "modern" songs just fine, but Peggy Gordon isnt supposed to be a happy song, she made it sound far too cheerful for my liking.

  • Yeah, but like I wrote,it is a great song.If The Corrs version leads just one person to investigate futher, then it has served a great purpose!.

Actually I'm not sure if it supposed to be a glum song. Its a love song, where you may like to think there is a happy ending!.

  • Oh youre such a romantic!

I do like happy endings :)

  • wow, who hasn't felt the pain of unrequited love? Luke sings this so beautifully I could cry just thinking about it.

  • I think Luke did the best ever version of this song, I don't think it gets any better than this

  • @devans471 Well said.

  • @devans471 impossible for all singers to make a better version of this wonderful song - Luke was the best and lucky for us that we still can listen to hes performance

  • Is this a studio version? Because it is certainly not the well-known live version.

  • it's a studio version indeed

  • i think i could listen to thos song a million times in a row and still find other aspects that impress me...thx for posting

  • u can say that again flakey... big up Dubliners... everywhere.. lol

  • Always loved this song & this recording will probably never be bettered, a lovely song & no shame in crying when you hear it (we've all been there, right?) Flakey..

  • The sweetest voice i ever heard. I listen to Luke every day. How could you tire of this kind of singing ? Simply stunning. There's nothing more to say.

  • a true master class this!!! listen and learn

  • The Master - you never said a truer word! Listen to that perfect diction. Truly unsurpassed.

  • The Master is so many ways! The song nearly makes me cry everytime i hear it.... The beautiful banjo accompaniment is from the very top drawer!

  • This is the best verion of this song i have ever herd, Sinad O'conners version is an close second, but the song is writen from bloke's perpective, this just gets the nod from me. fantastic thank you so much.
