I love this movie. Lola Montes was a 19th century European courtesan; this movie, in gorgeous 1950's color, with marvelous cinematography and costumes as well as music, portrays her life, the rise and fall of this beautiful but tragic woman. It's a masterpiece of the brilliant director Max Ophuls. If only TCM channel could show this more often. I've never seen it on there!
Does anyone know anything about an upcoming DVD release of this restoration of 'Lola Montes'? There's only the Fox-Lorber one now, and that's 1.) unrestored and 2.) out of print anyway.
Thanks so much for the heads-up! This could be the thing that pushes me over the edge into Blu-Ray territory -- the combination of Criterion, the restored film, and Blu-Ray is very likely to be unbeatable!
