One of my all time favorite game.I have this for C64 and for PS1.And then R-Type Delta for PS1 and R-Type final for PS2.Before the games were more than just products, games were something larger than life.
@ 1:45. Aren't those guns supposed to rotate? I used to have this game on my PC Engine, and I'm sure they all rotated and you went into the middle of them.
Yeah. Did not remembered this had it too. I thought the Hawkeye wast the only one with parallax. Both games were out in 1988. I really loved this game.
I too am a r-type fan but are you completly INSANE?!? still dont understand why they havnt rereleased this game for new technology.R-type was a classic and i would love to see it on xbox live!
i have deliberated the answer to that question... and yes i believe i am... although i must say ive seen some crappy tatoos out there so i think a little r-type spaceship somewhere ... perhaps on my knob... would be awesome. :P
Mandred Trenz (the coder) had to converted the C64 version in just 6 weeks. I think this is one result from this like the glitch with the beam shoot. If you comapare this game with Trenzs older Katakis you will see that he was a brilliant coder but hasn`t enough time for R-Type.
He must have taken Katakis's code base and re-used some of it for the R-Type conversion, I mean come on - 42 days to program R-Type in assembler, including testing? That is phenomenal work!! It is a real shame the name Manfred Trenz is not infamous like Braybrook, Hubbard, Walker and Archer McLean are.
@DerSchmu; I disagree because I like this one! :) Happy shooting in Trenz style, blew me away when I first time saw the game on my humble C=64! Cool music, great sprites and nice explosions, what more could I want from a shoot 'em up like R-Type. I dunno the original so..
One of the really good 8=bit conversions of the arcade classic. BTW, I noticed something after the end of the stage 2 boss battle. I didn't see the boss explode. I wonder if Electric Dreams (the company who handled the conversion) didn't have enough memory to handle the gfx for the explosions?
I remember loading this on my C64 just to hear the music! Level 3 especially is just epic, long live the SID chip!

To me this seems by far the best 8-bit version. It´s so accurate considering the limitations of the hardware...

@Pai3000 yeah! The preview of the first version shows some promising action as well.

I like how the music in this version kicks your ass. The music in the other versions is kind of flat.

@samwyse2006 It's cool how this music even kicks the arcade's ass.

@xtremecoasters, it would have been too much for the C64 too handle, processor and RAM wise. It would brought the game to an absolute stand still!

Just look at Enforcer:Full Metal Megablaster ,It might change your uneducated opinion.
No offence meant BTW :)

Wow, I just has a look at "Enforcer:Full Metal Megablaster", the C64 could produce some amazing games and sound (when the programmers wanted it to)
By the way, no offence was taken! :-)
