I feel very proud that stan has northern england roots- stan and ollie performed around 5 miles from my home and stan went to a nearby school. I'm visiting ulverston this year and seeing birthplace of stan and the museum should be amazing. I love how they have a few statues, and when they all sung sons of the desert that was incredible! x

It is very sad if people vandalised the statue but it doesn't suprise me in this day and age. The one in South Shields is fenced off.

Stan laurel was not born in Bishop auckland, I would like to know how long he lived in the town in order for him to have a statue put up. I hope the tax payer didnt pay for it?

i know i live in the center of bishop auckland and i think its a waste of 50 fucking grand

Hate to be critical being a Bishop lad myself but... half the kids are done up like Charlie Chaplin rather than Stan and some gadgie is even dressed up like Tommy Cooper!
