I'm not an idiot so I Will wear a seatbelt. Just don't get your blood on my car when you crash into me and go through your windshield breaking your neck. Is there any real reason not to wear a seatbelt other than being a moron?
@TimelyMeerkat Wearing a seatbelt is a good idea obviously. The point of the video is that the government should not force you to wear a seatbelt. Mandatory seatbelt laws should be abolished. Just because something is a good idea does not mean that there should be a law.
@TimelyMeerkat Is it a good idea to overeat? No, it can lead to heart attacks. Does that mean overeating should be illegal? If you choose to do something stupid, it's your choice and you should be free to make it. To answer your question, no there isn't any real reason to not wear your seat belt other than being a moron, however what kind of American are you if you are willing to give up a bit of your freedom of choice, however small, just because you don't plan on using it?
Laws to protect people against themselves are at least questionable. My biggest argument against seat belts is they are not required by everyone. There are some jobs that do not require seat belts to be worn; but my biggest question is school buses. How can anyone claim to be looking at safety, and as in many states, not have seat belts in buses. Some states are hanging GPS cards on kids in buses but no seat belts.
these are the stupidest fcking laws around. if i dont want to wear one i dont have to. i just got a 115 dollar ticket for one. cops need to mind their own fuckin business and go catch real criminals instead of ppl who are just tryin to live their life.
@JSasRays For a seat belt violation only. Now, she has to try and fight it. Her word against his. Pathetic. the good thing is that she hasn't had a ticket of any kind in over 30 years. Some of these cops are willing to lie for such petty reasons.I would like to contribute in some way to get these laws removed from the books before they are abused even more.
@JSasRays She told me he argued that it didn't look quite right. He didn't specify. She clearly had it on when he came to the window, but he wrote the ticket anyway. I think these guys have a quota, or they are cut from the force in order of how many tickets they write when budget cuts are made. I don't know where these cops are coming from these days, but their heads aren't screwed on right.
@Polarcupcheck yes thats true they do have a quota. ive gotten a ticket for accidentally leaving my license at home. how screwed up is that? i mean, it took the cop 3 minutes to see if i had one on his computer. if your mom thinks she can win, bring it to court.
@JSasRays Some people say the qouta is a myth, but so much evidence stands in the face of that. Common sense tells you that too many cops wouldn't even give tickets if they weren't forced. And it always seems to be at the end of the month. I think they have a dollar qouta sometimes. Whatever it takes to get lets say, $1,000 in fines.
Cops also try to get you to admit to not presently living at the address on your license. So that is another fine.
@MrPerson998 Yes seatbelts should be used. But should the government force you to buckle up? No, it shouldn't. The purpose of government is to protect your rights and freedoms. Government is not designed to protect you from the consequences of your own actions, or at least it shouldn't be in the USA, a nation built on the concept of freedom and liberty. People were driving cars for over 60 years before the first seat belt laws were passed.
@dirkamus The rules of the road can be altered and changed as need be. Wearing seatbelts is a good idea of course, but that is not the issue. Should the government force us by law to wear them? If you choose not to wear a seatbelt, whose rights and freedoms are you infringing upon? You do indeed have a right to put your own life and safety at risk by not buckling up.
With no seat belt laws, insurance companies could still require them as a condition for insurance coverage.

@JSasRays Officer just ticketed my mother while she was wearing it. Wearing it doesn't save you from any fine.

@Polarcupcheck what was she ticketed for though?

unlike private property, in this issue we are now using public property and thus we are subject the rules of the road, if you will.
