seriously, the MOST underated band of the nineties. Self titled album was one of the best I had in my Britpop collection. So melocoly, sad and beautiful. You were amazing lads, thankyou.
About 6 years on from this, it would seem that Peter Docherty (Libertines/ Babyshambles) would be "inspired" by this track, along with his drug buddy and friend, the Wolfman. The song they collaborated on, "For Lovers", sounds remarkably similar to this. Or they both draw from the same sources, French 1960's Quasi Romantic Serge Gainsbourg influenced stuff and Scott Walker / Walker Brothers.
pure rip-off from 'a day in the life'. they just prolonged the build up to lennon's verse and ditched macca's, and changed some of the chord progressions along the way and made a 'new' song of it. guess that's why they never made it big. imitators.
@forshorn wow, and there was me thinking people got I-R-O-N-Y. not everyone does, clearly. i suppose if you like a violent mancunian growling into a microphone (nothing wrong with that, it takes all sorts), understanding irony wouldn't come natural
yea they had 2 drummers, rare to have 2 drummers, adam n the ants did also, shame they got dropped - if they were around last 5 yrs, they'd of been huge, over the shite thats has been about.
Probably not as they're an English group that was very conscious of where they come from. If anything it's about their hometown or some place on the English coast.
i first listened to this a few months back in someone's blog. loved it straight away. a really emotional song. its really a wonder with this kind of song, why didnt this band make it.
Thanks very much for sharing, fantastic song, nice video. I saw Rialto in my city back in 1999 and they were absolutely brilliant. Great debut album as well.

@twenangst excuse me? oasis were one of the biggest bands worldwide. Rialto wasn't so lucky.
