Question: Why was the Orca so popular in the original game, but was used progressively less/was less popular in later games?

Answer: Because Westwood, while normally awesomeness in a can, fooled us with this video into thinking THIS was how the unit operated.

I used to bring Medium Tanks to the party against SAM batteries. Roll the armor up then call in the Orcas. Don't even have to order them to target the SAMs, just something nearby. Once the SAM battery pops up, call up the Abrams tanks and rape the missile launchers. Later on it changed to Mammoth Tanks.

Now if only this thing wasn't so vulnerable to noobjets in Renegade. You can't fight a battle without running into at least 5 of them.

You think so? Depends on how you use it. I'd pump out eight of the things and go harvester hunting with four and kill SAM's with the remainder...then switch to targeting power plants. No money, no power, no air defense....battle is over, and I'd fill a screen with Tiberium silos.

Wow, I can't believe I posted that a year ago! Anyways, I don't know, the Orcas like to just hover around and takes 15 seconds to fire all of it's missiles. It's slow, and SAMs shoot it down easily. but of course I an most likely using them wrong.

I`ve Built a flying model of this aircraft and indeed its a VTOL ( Vertical Take Off & Landing) VTOL aircraft Fall in to the Chopper Class.its not a chopper but it falls under them.a chopper is also regarded as a VTOL aircraft.

How do you rip and convert the videos from the game?

I use a software called XCC Mixer to view the C&C data files.

I tried using that, and for some reason all the video files are listed as VQP files instead of VQA, making them unconvertable (this happens when I try to rip the RA vids as well). I'm using the version of CnC Gold that comes with the CnC3 preorder, though.

Perhaps it is the CnC that comes with CnC3, b/c I have no idea what VQP is. It seems EA may have re-encoded the files. Sorry.

rofl. VQP aren't the video's... they're additional palettes used to stretch the 320x200 vids to 640x400 (well 640x200 + horizontal interlacing actually)

The actual VIDEOS are on the CDs, in movies.mix.

In the final mission on sega saturn system i got a squad of orcas that had uncommon missiles beside the normal ones. Im not sure where they came from though.
