  • i think this isnt fighting, this is perfect dancing.

  • At one point he grabs his wrist then changes his grip, in slow motion its about as fast as an awkward move ike that could happen, funny

  • it's not a face off unless the face actually comes off.

  • okay guys seriously it's a movie, it's meant to be entertaining so they're not going to kill eachother the second they see an opening . Besides would you really want the final fight of the whole movie to end quickly because of one lucky shot.

  • @NightAn93l You are so right. It really is just a movie & comparing this to real life CQC (someone said real life CQC would own gun kata... no shit!) is just stupid. Do you watch a movie to see what happens in REAL LIFE?

I think its the context. The movie is somewhat based in realism / is gritty. Its not like a high flying kung fu movie or wire-fu comedy. If they did this gun kata sequence in something like Devil May Cry (I believe they have) or any other fantasy world, no one would question it

  • "Look ma, no face!" - Marcus Phoenix

  • This is the only gun kata that actually makes sense when "gun kata" is a topic. Then again, a proper CQC could easily own a stylish gun kata, which, in real world, actually does.

  • thats pretty nice work,, both combatants go for the persons face,, but i dont see them considering shooting the guys foot/knee-caps/legs first before going for the head. could they block the guys gun with 1 hand and shoot his foot with the other? anyone agree if its possible idea to use?

  • How are they talking right after with having heard several gunshots at point blank range a few seconds ago? They should be deaf. Maybe they communicate via other means than those that require working ears?

  • it reminds me the filipino martial arts eskrima..it is eskrima?

  • @sandwichandguitarboy

    @sandwichandguitarboy

It is, in a way. It is a mixture of Chinese Wing Chun trapping, Filipino Escrima, and Hollywood choreography. It’s possible that shadow work from Russian Systema, as well as some other sensitivity arts played their part in it as well. For all the people who want to believe that Gunkata is a practical technique (it isn’t), this is the most realistic application in the movie.

  • @VulpeRenard thank you, really apreciate :)

  • what you shouldn´t forget: The combatants had to be 100% concentrated at getting chances to hit the opponent on the one hand AND NOT GETTING HIT THEMSELFES on the other hand. So they have to calculate the risk of taking a chance to cause some damage, because by going in the offense they would slight theyre defense - and they have to calculate this IN SPLIT SECONDS.

  • It must have been crazy choreographing this fight.

  • I laughed so hard when i saw this movie! especially when the face slid off.

  • I miss video angles like this...in movies nowadays they just switch camera angles by the second just to make things look faster and cooler...to me its just nauseating and it sucks

  • @lozzar retarded haha

  • If you watch closely, at 0:50 Bale could have fired his fun and it would have hit the other guy.

  • Comment removed

  • whats about running away and shoot from distance? XD

  • kill shot???? if u watch th movie u know he killed him later on with a shot in his chest.

  • Awesome duel, but..................... They should have just kept firing all the time, and they would of hit eachother hundreds of times.

  • Rule of cool :P

@channelASP: Well, those little guns wouldn't hold many rounds; on full-auto they'd burn through them pretty fast.

@ Almay7881: Probably :P Harder to guage reaction time on slow-mo though.

What I want to know is what's going on at 1:34 - Preston disarms DuPont, but DuPont still has a gun in his hand? Did they disarm each other? Was Preston's gun empty so he let DuPont take it to leave him open to steal HIS gun (would explain why DuPont immediately throws it away...)?

  • Comment removed

  • @channelASP

No, they would have wasted ammo and then died. Just like fighters getting tired too quickly in a fight, only shoot when you think it's right. The idea is that they are THAT damn good at blocking gunfire.

    @TheRolemodel1337

The first person to try and run is the first person to get shot. If you try and back up the other guy will follow to block your shots.

Sickest fight scene. Guncata and the whole explanation and idea behind it is so badass!

  • Why oh why do the people in the movie need to get the gun at a full arms length to shoot it?

  • This movie gained some really bad reviews before it was out, making alot of people skipping it. I'm glad it's considered a classic now.

Wish there was a sequel. Oh well, just downloaded the Equilibrium mod for Max Payne 2. Any fan of this movie should get it!

  • The main guy in the film trained the new clerics in gunkata, so i think he was waiting for a kill shot, cause in the training, it looked liked they were always aiming at the face.

  • christian bale rocks!

  • How did you get the movie into Windows Movie Maker because I didn't think it could that.

  • Awesome film, love this in slow-mo, shows how well it was shot

  • Joylock! GOOD JOB! I enjoyed this a lot!

  • the future of hand to hand combat haha

  • Why Christian Bale the only one shooting?

  • at 0:52 he could kill him with the gun! he aimed directly on his heart =)

  • all the basic skills of wing chun

  • they're not fighting, they're...dancing...

  • just shoot the fuck already!

  • where the shots would have hit in the torso would not have done much leathal damage. besides its a 9mm pistol THEY SUCK

  • yer but u have to take it that this is the future they may have a special typre of round in it srapnes or somthing wierd duno but this fight ownz..

  • If killing dont work out for them, they can always become dancers

  • Kumite

  • Bale has a perfect shot to the heart at 0:51

  • Yeah...

  • Then again, buddha, maybe the other guy is wearing body armor?

  • kicking is disqualification then...

  • would be simpler to aim for the torso than the head

  • id aim head, i dont wanna wound. i want to kill.

  • could be a 2 shot system, one torso, one head

  • yea.. with to guns id do that :P not with one

  • but then that's where the blocks and evasions come in

  • its part of it, who ever is faster and more skilled.. wins :)

  • A shot to the torso usually does kill.

  • yea but i think in that situation its about honor and fun or something lol

  • Lol they what to hit in the face not the torso ;).

  • if you replied to my 2months old comment, you are right like i was saying the same thing.

  • This is a personal duel to whoever gets shot in the face first wins.

  • He could have shot him at :51

  • Didn't you see SilverFlowingEyes comment?

  • good see (bien vu)

  • Is it also part of Gun kata, the sword fight part? I wish the founder of gun kata will publish his Gun Kata FU :D

  • The handling of the guns, the movements and pistol-whipping, is very similar to the sword-style they practice. It could very well be that they practice sword arts as a sort of study of basics before practicing with the guns themselves.

  • sickest fight ever can appreciate it a lot more in slomo.. I PAY IT GLADLY BAM

  • those are a long barrel varient of the M9 with a recoil supression system

  • Ok for all the people talking crap about how they both had chances to shoot each other...Think about this for a second, you had to SLOW DOWN the video just to see those chances. Meaning in close combat, you aren't going to see EVERY opportunity to take down your opponent. Especially when the opponent is almost on equal grounds combat wise. The choreography was some of the best I've seen, it even rivals the matrix.

  • In slow mo I actually expected to see a lot of flaws in the scene, but they the slow mo has actually made it clear how well they have shot the scene. It has some real dodging going on, not faked which no one can pick up at real speeds anyway.

Havnt seen the movie but am inclined to watch it.

  • @SilverFlowingEyes

it rivals the matrix, but because it came out just after..noone cared.

  • @SilverFlowingEyes At 0:51, he could shoot at his underarm. In full motion, he had plenty of time to do that too.

  • It's A Awosom New Martl Art That Thay Made :). i Love It :)

  • Yeah I mean there are gonna be times when your in your opponents aim, but you use the delay they have to get out of the way again. Alot of factors cause this delay, primarily the skill of your opponent.

  • questa scena mi ha scioccata quando l'ho vista..... GLI CADE LA FACCIAAAAAAAAAA

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGHHHHHHH

  • LOL @ Cheaply modified desert eagles >_>

  • those aren't Desert eagles those are berettas.

  • Those are barettas crossed with Colt .45's I think.

  • Pancamo

True, but your knowledge of spelling and grammar sucks. You would have been completely in the right and untouchable if you'd only spelled "Bereta" right. I would've even let the "ure" stand. Instead, you've committed an EPIC FAIL.

Get the fuck off the internet and thank you. Good night.

  • That's not very polite.

  • I just hate ppl that start their comments with "actually...". Especially the ones who do it trying to prove to the unknown masses how smart they are, then proceed to say the stupidest things in their comments afterwards. If they bother you, or my treatment of them does, i just have to assume you're new to the internet?

  • Just because I don't like the way you're talking to someone, even if it's over the internet, doesn't mean I'm an FNG. I was merely making a comment on politeness, which you seem to lack...

  • Im very polite and respectful, to those who deserve it. Its just been my experience that people who make comments like the aforementioned "Actually..." one and people who try to police the internet, feeling holier than thou, and interjecting their presumed morals into a conversation without adding anything to it... dont deserve respect.

  • Just because you don't respect someone doesn't mean you shouldn't be polite.

  • Thats true, but, like with respect, i only show the politeness shown to me and others around me. My whole original point was that the "actually" comment was rude in and of itself to begin with. Rude, inaccurate and poorly spelled. I admire your ability to stick up for the masses, but you're definitely in the wrong. My treatment of him was a decision on my part, whether it was wrong or not is totally subjective. You're attempt to correct me however was just... well... out of your jurisdiction.

  • @tjs8n If you really think bad spelling and grammar is a reason for someone to get off the internet, then you sir, are absolutely fucking retarded

  • @ImAHumanBeeing Well, if it helps, I also believe that people who reply to a comment over 2 years old that had nothing at all to do with them and yet they still don't add anything to the conversation should get the hell off of the Internet as well. We are far too tolerant of stupidity on internet comment pages and forums and it is starting to spill over into "IRL".

  • @tjs8n didn't see the date cause youtube was acting up pretty hard to me so, bitch about it some more will ya? I can't see much of a conversation if all you did your comment was bitch about his spelling and grammar.

  • @ImAHumanBeeing Read the comment from PancamoXXL that has too many negative votes. It was the one I was replying to...In 2009... when I made the comment... =P

  • Doesn't that mean that the father is a sense offender, because look at all those illegal portraits, frames, and room decor. All signs of a sense offender.

  • yeah pretty much everyone in this film is a sense offender save for poor Preston.

  • yeah, you guys can find all the tiny infractions in the choreography. But it's still the coolest and most unique fight scene i've seen in a long time.

  • oh man this is the cream of all gun fights

  • dude the whole time he has that suit on not a single drop of blood on it

  • at 49-51 you can see that preston has his arm twisted but then its twisted back so that the gun is pointed to the other guy's heart. WHY DOESNT HE JUST SHOOT THEN

  • I see exacly what you mean at 50(sec) I guess he was keeping an eye on his oppenants gun to notice the opitunity.

Ether that or just the rules of action movies.

  • You can't honestly read to much in t the choreography in this movie, I counted about fourteen different times when the main character could have made killshots, they really could have designed the moves better.

  • (Yeah, he does.) Why did they stop putting in the shooting effects starting at 0:45? You just hear *CLICK*CLICK*CLICK* and don't see the blast of the shot...

  • The guns are hitting each other

  • Oh...Ok. Thanks for clearing that up.

  • lol that vace chancellor guy looks a bit too fat to keep up

  • I think during this fight they both also showed their skills to eachother and not only wanted to just kill, that is wy they didn't used some chances to hit the enemy and they had a lot of chances

  • jummy...somebody likes face sandwich .... ?

  • Cheesy? Perhaps, but it was necessary to make this. It demands inspection, dammit!

  • he is a master of Gun Kata, in the movie you see him train young Clerics. Only Preston is way better

  • ..i feel

  • best final fight ever...

  • I always wondered about that room. It was clear he was a sense offender, but like in the last scene none of those clerics seemed to care. Frickin abuse of power!

  • If cheesy means awesome then, yes. HELLA cheesy.

  • Short and sweet. Like a quick burst of adrenalin. Left me craving for more !! ^_^

  • if you shoot him on the head in the moment he could i would lose time and the other one could shoot him in the same time, that's why they exected the right moment, when one of them can aim the other without any risk....that's why they didn't shoot each other before....think before write

  • there was alot of points u can tell where he actually coulda shot him, its too bad he wasnt fast enuff to see it.

  • lol I was thinking the same thing... I was like wtf they could have shot each other like 5 times

  • yeah, but they were moving really really fast though, and not just moving they were also making darn sure the other person couldnt hit em, and getting their hands smacked outta da way everytime they could fire.

  • 00:06... "oops where did my face go?! would someone pick it up?"

  • for people that want the end, it's stupid, preston shoots him through the head and that's it ;)

  • well, too bad for you. what did u expect? and u got it wrong. he doesnt shoot him in the head.

  • the ending was indeed a bit ...weak

I tis very cool the gunkata movements

But I expected a long fight

  • the Father is a leader, not someone who invented the gun kata, hes just... a human with feelings, plus Preston is waay more experienced with dis techniqye, so the father didnt have a chance. thats why the fight was short..

  • that isn't the real father more like a new

I thought he used to be cleric

  • weak? it was really good. thats the way movies should end. they shoot the bad guy. it mightve been a bit weak if he had just shot him while they were fighting over position to fire

  • It was good. But it was a problem, it was short becasue they ran out of budget and there was no time left to shoot, so they rushed it.

  • Father died, kids.

Remember that the bad guy was just a replacement, and I'm willing to bet that before he was "Father" he knew or maybe even taught Gun-Kata.

There was an earlier scene that actually shows the bad guy talking about Gun-Kata to a room full of Cleric trainees.

  • How come the technique doesn't involve pistol-whipping in close quarters? There were plenty of opportunities in that hand swapping sequence where one could have used the barrel on the side of his head. It's not as elegant but it adds an extra challenge.

  • All he need to do was step away from the other guy... DING FRIES ARE DONE!

One of those guys has a face that is too chubby for Gun Kata, and it's not Christian Bale.

  • That would have left him completely open...

  • He should have kept the katana.

The fight would be over much sooner.

    :P

  • lol if either had an uzi or full auto pistol, they could of just kept it full auto n got the opponent as it went past

  • He wanted him where he got him.

  • at 0:50 Preston has his gun pointed at the bad guy for a good 2 seconds.

  • But it's slow mo. and normal human reaction time is, on average 1 second. (-_-)

  • LOL, he could have killed Preston at 00:47

  • oh man, that's freakin INTENSE! haha! i liked it as much as the actual version. XD

  • this movie has the best gun fights in the history in any film!

  • man even in slow mo its intense but I paid attention they both had several chances to shoot the other

  • Damn powder burns!

  • 0:36 ^_^

  • Awesome movie, but slo-mo shows that Gun Kata is just a cool choreographie, both of them have many chances of shooting each other. But that wouldn't be cool, huh? ;-)

  • Well slowing down the action just let us see how unrealistic it is and I say that, though this is one of my favorite movies at all!

    Turning is just movie-choreography

  • 'twas a good idea to slow down the action.

  • that's badass.. thanks for posting!

  • I'm a martial artist and I absolutly loves this. Its so different then the normal hand to hand / bow staff / whatever fighting that its refreshing. How badass would it be if someone could do this for a martial arts "creative" form.

  • at 0:36 DuPont shots Preston in tha face.

  • yeah, too bad all martial arts movies aren't realistic, but I guess no one knew that?

It's a movie... gun kata is just entertainment. It's a different approach to martial arts/ action films. It's also too bad people like you became tough the day we invented the internet.

  • Christian Bale does a great job, although that villain guy looked scared.

  • i think it would have been better if they played it as this speed

  • Go back to watching Pretty Woman then

    ddv13devo

  • Yeah, you must be a REAL martial artist. Whether you are or not, if looking at GunKata annoys you, perhaps you should, oh, I dunno, IGNORE IT? Remember, your "knowledge" on the internet will get you nowhere, because most people do not care. Second, wikipedia doesnt make YOU any more intelligent. You're just being a parrot. Schwing.

    **disclaimer**

Most of the above posted was bullshit. I dont take this seriously. Pie.

  • I always wanted to see this scene in slow motion with the audio intact. It's a whole new experience watching it at this speed. Thanks for posting!

  • The're obliviously not taking a step back to shoot because then the other guy would have the same chance to shoot unhindered. And since you would be the one taking a step back he will be the first one to take a shot. Just because you cant understand the film doesnt make it a "joke".

  • besides it makes more sense IMO than "dodging bullets faster than the eye can see" by doing nothing more than leaning backwards and falling on your back. *cough* the matrix *cough*

  • IMO? What the hell is that? Can we go back to classic english where everyone can understand?

  • Seriously the slow-motion made them look sooooo gay. I suggest you guys just watch it with its original speed (or with a little more speed).

  • looks like theyre dancing or sumthing

  • who fuckin' disables embedding??

this vid is awesome..why wouldn't you want to share it?

  • It obviously looks brilliant and Bale is my hero but there are about 15 occasions where either one could killed the other!!!! Pedantic I know buy hey!!!

  • hes good at blocking xD

  • He cut taye Diggs face off!

  • fantastic....

  • just my opinion but slo mo made it worse. not better Rezelhorne. you could clearly see that that was close to the speed it was actually shot at. hence the expressions and the "slappiness".

equilibrium was a great flick though - i've never forgotten those opening lines...

    "The Gun Katas..."

  • Gun kata is awesome

  • almost as bad ass as gym kata

  • hahhahha that film rules

    GYMKATA !!

  • Someone doesn't have a sense of humor.

Gymkata was one of the original great cheezy movies. It's not supposed to be taken seriously.

  • so this is what he did before batman begins huh?

i like martial arts films but that was cheese.

  • It really isn't a martial arts film.

  • this is really great acctuly ive tryied to track the movments of thei scene a few time but its really fast but in this it looks like it would if it was a rehearsly its great

  • Its fiction man, fiction... In their universe, gun kata users dodge bullets, so frikken what, its a fiction movie. You dont see soldiers in Saving pvt Ryan doing gun kata, cos its a realistic movie, its meant to be accurate. If you dont like the scene why bother posting?

  • i loved that scene in the film, adding slomo just made it better! good job!

    *****

  • lmao

  • As you wish. Go fight someone in a gun battle who uses gun kata. If you survive, we'll accept.

  • I dont see why they don't just kick the other guy in the nuts.
