Without replacing any parts, get it as close to starting as you can and right after you push the power button start tapping Ctrl+alt+del repeatedly until you see something on the screen. You have to stop tapping as soon as you see something on your screen, you will probably tap too much. If so you have to start again. Never re-ball shit, waste of time
i have exactly the same problem, trying everything to fix my laptop. same HP Pavilion dv6000....
i love that laptop. wen i changed it from vista to windows 7. its even much better. but now i gott the same black screen shit... i tell you how to fix it, wen i finds out more.
@potax17 my computer are almost 4 years old, i putted in windows 7 ultimate on it. it works perfect ;) if the vista are stil in it. then vista makes the laptopp crash in the screen. but its not the Nvidia card, just heat it upp, and try =) and pleas gett some baah that keeps the wift cold. =) cant remember the name. then you have an HP PAVILLION DV6000 like a new one ^^ i testet mine 13 times by difrence. and to heat upp the Nvidia chips. yea it works great ;) try =)
Had Same issue too and the service dude said he just changed the processor and worked on the display chip...that was all... But in the market, everyone seems to be complaining about HP DV6000/9000 especially the ones with AMD processors,
My Computer do exactly the Same i already open The Laptop and change the power jack still dosen't work but i'm trying everything to recover my lap top if i found something to fix the problem i will tell you how i fix the problem
the lights in front of the screen should turn off you might have a melted wire in there thats whate mine was doin accept i would make it to about boot screen then it would turn off i just replaced the fucked wire and now it works im using it as we speak well i have the dv9000 but mostly the same shit
Congrats, you have been a victim of the GPU flaw. HP uses lead free solder to hold down the GPU. But the lead free solder is crap as it melts easily at high temperatures causing the gpu to detach from the board requiring a reflow or a reball. Not only that, but HP made a poor cooling design for the GPU. There is a class action lawsuit against HP for knowing about this problem but not recalling or informing customers.
@Maximilionalpha 2 days ago.. i was modding my pc. I was going to change harddisk. But then i dropped a metal thingy on the motherboard and a electric thingy pop up. After that i couldnt start my laptop. Do u think its the battery? the charger works.
@XerkoGames I think you should have stated that you dropped a piece of metal your motherboard while changing out harddrives, because that would have saved me lots of typing..lol I'm afraid that you may have fried a microchip or two. You can always try to pull your battery and cmos out and wait a while before re-installing them, but I'm guessing you'll need a new moherboard.
I'm assuming that by now you have solved the problem, but just in case you hadn't, or for that matter, anyone else, the problem is a simple fix(if you're knowledgeable about computers/laptops). The problem is the graphics processor overheating and pulling away from the motherboard. I know this because I had one given to me with this same exact issue. The solution is a simple one...Open up the laptop and remove the heatsink and fan so that you can get at the graphics processor
@Maximilionalpha ...which will be located to the right of the cpu...clean off the thermal paste really good and then using some aluminum foil, cover the surrounding exposed components, leavinig the graphics processor uncovered. Now take a heat gun to the graphics processor for about 3 minutes, making sure that you heat it evenly. Let cool, place a penny or copper slug on top of it the same thickness as the foam pad that was covering it, thermal past on cpu, replace heatsink and re-assymble.
@castiland1000 they have the recalls listed on the hp website, you just have to search for them, but there is no telling when they will be recalled... i didnt want to wait and find out, i just said screw hp and threw away 2 hp laptops(a 15.3" and a 17" screen) and bought a toshiba, which has the best overall reviews.
sounds like a motherboard issue, hp laptops have a bad problem with overheating... when one over heats it loosens the sauder joints on the motherboard then thigs become an issue like hdd not reading, cd drive not showing up in the device manager, freezing when booting device, and so on. hp is in a lawsuit about this issue and if you decide to hold on to the laptop it may end up being in the recalls so you may be eligable to get it fixed at no cost.
bc89103, I have the same deal here with my DV6000...EXACTLY the same. In order for me to get video and get into the BIOS and such, I continuely press either "ESC" at startup, or I press "F1" and "F2" repeatedly and I get an active screen. See if this works, I am curious what the heck these keys are actually doing, but it seems to work for me. In any case, what a terrible design flaw from HP.
I have the same problem with my hp dv6915nr. My sound stopped working and my webcam stopped working then my cd/DVD drive stopped working. It's a mess I will never buy an HP again. I brought it to the computer store and they told me I would have to replace my whole motherboard and would cost almost 250$. I think a lot of people had the same problem with the hp dv serious and now I will never buy an HP again. Good luck hope you can fix it.
this problem its very easy to fix. this is for only for home work ..if u try to send this to repair center it will cause u a half of ur laptop..This how you gonna do it..im not very good in english but i hope u understand... just heat up your video chip set.. that will solve ur problem...for more info search right one in the you tube...
mine does the same thing but it doesn't shut off on itself.. i just wait a couple of minutes... on, then i turn it off, then on again and the hp logo usually comes up again. i have to do this a couple of times...
so first you have to throw the hp out the window.....then get in your car and go to the apple store....get a mac ..i had the same laptop lasted 3 weeks before i had to take it into best buy it was my first laptop so i didn't know much ....it stopped working completely the 3rd year .i kept it in great shape;;;;;; ..final decision...bought a mac.best decision of life.
Here is d solution to ur problem. Lose the battery and remove 5 screws and 1 inside Ram cover, turn back the computer and open the power cover and U will see the Two cables: one for Power and the other 4 speaker. The one for power is named AWM E2896 80C VM-1 and SPEAKER KOLT E..20798 80C 60V VM-1 (depending on the cable name in ur computer), just copy yours and search for it, probably, you will see it in EBAY, cost almost $10. change those cables, you are guarantee 100% the problem will be solve
@saemoenl , BC89103...SAEMOENL hit it on the spot. i had the same problem. i changed the LEFT kolte...the left is for the power and sound, the right is for the Quickplay. BC89103, try it first, it's probably the cheapest way to go, before starting to pay BIG BUCKS. you can get the kolts on e-bay. let me know how it worked out. good luck, L8tr.
I KNOW HOW TO FIX IT: UPDATE OR UPGRADE BIOS AND ALL DRIVERS, JUST GO ON HP.COM, UNDER LAPTOPS TYPE IN SEARCH BOX UPDATE DRIVERS AND FOLLOW STEPS, AFTER THAT CHANGE INTERNAL BATTERY THE SMALL ONE 3V, IT IS ON THE BACK UNDER RAM MEMORY COVER IN SAME TIME WHILE YOU CHANGE SMALL ONE TAKE OUT BIG ONE AND DO HARD RESET TO RESET BIOS, HARD RESET IS HOLD POWER BUTTON FOR 15 SEC WHILE THERE IS NO ANY BATTERY IN COM OR POWER CORD, IT FIXED MY PROBLEM, THEY SAY YOU HAVE TO CHANGE MOTHER BOARD NOT TRUE.
Try my copper shim instead of the stock thermal pad to greatly lower gpu temps. It is a perfect fit and only $5. Comes with thermal paste free. Search for "dv6000 copper shim on ebay".

@reply4reply I have the DV6000 with the same problem. I bought this used (now i know why). Sometimes it has taken 3 days to come on after I turn it off, sometimes it starts right up. @reply4reply I have the DV6000 with the same problem. I bought this used (now i know why). Sometimes it has taken 3 days to come on after I turn it off, sometimes it starts right up. I have just been leaving it on and bought a separate cooling pad for it to sit on. I will try the jacket trick, but a lawsuit sounds like a good idea.
