Doc you cold integrate your melon farm into a quick drop. You could set them up vertically, with a pressure plate up top. When you want melons you walk over it, it could smash the pumpkins down the drop. While you fall you will grab any melons left behind. and then when you land you will get the rest. Then you could put them into a trunk or just leave them in your inventory..

@docm77 Tilled soil counts as transparent blocks for the purposes of growing crops doc (or at least it did during the last update) and you only need the transparent block over the melon stems - not the square the melon is growing into - and with pistons being transparent you could light the entire thing with torches on the back of some of the dirt blocks. This is me saying the guys saying you can make it almost twice as compact are probably right, lol

Doc the second vertical melon farm u want to build in your world didnt really have a good yield rate, it wasnt even a full stack. the firstone where u got like 5 you should definetly build, or heeck build a couple all over just for convenience

These are all nice designs, but I prefer the simplicity of the melon farm Etho has in his single player world. Just walk in and get a stack of melon slices. It takes only one piston per melon (14 melons are quite enough, given they drop 3-7 slices, and you don't really need more than 64 slices at time).

Very interesting video Doc :) But just one thing, the layer of glowstone, couldnt that layer also be a layer with dirt and melon seeds, hence making this design 50% more dense.

I love the ideas here, especially the one with the ice. Very fast. However, the way I did it was the way Etho did it, though much longer and a bit more modified. It's not automatic, but it's got lots of moving parts, so it's kind of cool. I guess I shouldn't call it my design cause in part it's Etho's design, and I can't remember where he got it from. Also, my changes have probably also been done by someone before. Anyway, if anyone's interested, I'll put up a video if you pm me

Melons do grow in the nether if you have lava near. Your new melon farm next to your awesome pigmen farm next to a netherwart farm, all you need is a lava slime farm, water, and a brewing stand.

Doc I was looking at your tower design and I thought it was pretty cool, do you know of any ways that someone could limit the pulse (i guess) of the piston so that it will maximize the grow time for melons? so you stand on the plate and it gives out a short pulse (like a button) which means that the melons get broken and as soon as they are all broken the pistons retract for quick regrowth.

Doc!!! You don't need to use bud switches for auto harvest. You can Havana a powered red stone current going into where the melon or pumpkin will grow, and then when it grows you can take that power from the block ( I used a piston on top of the melon to take a signal. I used this idea to make a really nice design on my own, that is very compact.

I really like that tower melon design with the pressure plate. It would be a great thing to stand on when you are AFK. When you are in the menu of a crafting table it cannot pause the game so if you added a workbench on the corner you could AFK for hours and get millions of melons >:D

@TheRedstoneMechanic If you´d stand on it all the time, the pistons would be extracted and no melons would grow. For the afk version, you could use one of the control units and harvest in random intervalls while afk.

Nice Concept!!! But i have to say i like the melonfarm you already have more. You can easyly harvest your melons, without losing any and it is easy to build! The only thing that these machines prevent is walking 10 blocks to collect the melons. But as said, great design, Herr Doktor!

I think you will get a maximum off 2 melons on each tower. If one of the melons grow, to plants will stick to it. And i don't think they will be able to get their own pumpkins.

@Tubeofjokes For the tower design, it is more about trying to let them grow fast and harvest it more often.Each stem can grow in to two sides, which speeds up the time to regrow.
