  • Can somebody please sync the audio and video? This is too good to suffer through! Thank you.

  • This is priceless. A real gem.

  • Not sure which is more enjoyable here...the sheer epic-ness of this song, or the guitarist's 80's coke-jaw. Your opinion??

  • The age of cocaine, and the guitar player certainly was fucked up here. His jaw is out of control.

  • Awesome upload.. Thanks so much.. I love this song! I never knew what they looked like until I watched this. Thanks again...

  • awesome song. too bad it went out of sync

  • what the fuck happened at 3:24 ?

  • @falaqdad15 the aliens zapped a homing frequency into Stan's brain...

  • i wish i was in tj catching a mule show...

  • Saw them in 83 at the rex club in Paris

  • Tell me the lead singer did not end up in an insane asylum?! WEIRD DUDE!!

  • @wrussell391 Actually, he played at my music venue last year here in Portland, Oregon. He tours a lot, and writes and records. He's not THAT weird...just great!

  • @wrussell391 hes a funny guy. ive met him a few times, and ive got everything hes ever made. i met him when i was only 11 in chicago, we were staying in the same hotel. i told him i was a big fan, and he offered me the bag of cheetos he was eating.

  • @IamLukeSilz92 so did you accept them :D?

  • @wrussell391 Naaa Stan still makes music! it's too bad this video is so out of sync.

  • @wrussell391 Actually he broke out of one hahaha Seriously though, he's actually a really fab guy and hope he comes down here to Sydney Aust again. Ironically I think at least two members of Wall of Voodoo are now no longer with us, and are pushing up daisies. -daz in oz

  • a bit rem

  • Its a bit like those albums from woolies in the 70's Top ten songs not by the original artists. A K-tel style video. clearly an early vid and soundtrack but not Stans first vid on the Tube which if a recall had him swinging his arms around quite a bit after being introduced by Paula Yates RIP!

  • one of the first songs I ever taped

  • Paula yeate introduced the band with the opening saying that this group was that good you thought they had walnut whips down their triusers"gospel" way before their time if you get a chance listen to call of the west.

  • the dubbing is off but a good vid nonetheless.

  • 1 of my Favorit songs

  • God....listening to Ridgeway and the boys never gets boring.....:), they just don't make'um like this any more......:-/

  • Cocaine is a helluva drug..............

  • that's one of the craziest drum kits I've ever seen!

  • i first heard this on john peels late night show !,straight out next day and brought it,and i still got it !!

  • This is, with any doubt, the koolest song ... ever

  • The scene: Calexico, Kalifornia. The players: a guerro grade skool kid and his little caucasion hombre buddy. The only two white boys in the whole skool in 1962. The only radio it seemed, was ... "Mexican Radio". The only kids' TV show at all was "SuperCar" ... with English sub-titles.

This tune has a special meaning for some of us "howlie kids". lolol! :-D

  • love this

  • Happy Cinco De Mayo Everyone!!!

  • Happy birthday Ken!!!!

  • Talk about the U.S. inflation; I understand just a little; No comprende' it's a RIDDLE!

  • Cool, I love this song.

  • I saw them in '82 in NYC when they toured to support "Call of the West". Great show.

  • GREAT !

  • I've been looking for any videos of this song by the wall of voodoo, and this is the best i can find... sadly though, the audio track and video feed are out of sync... ah... memories, a powerful thing.

  • radioooooooo..

  • He says: "I understand just a little, no comprendo hay mucho ruido..." ( theres a lot of noise...)

  • It bring me old time

  • thanks for this post I loved this song since I was 12

  • No Comprende, I'ts a riddle!

  • i saw Celtic Frost really fuck this song up

W.O.V. shoulda shot em for it too.

  • lol! was that live at the Hammersmith Odeon? 1986? if so, i got it on VHS. Bloody crap! entertaining though

  • theres a live version of this song, the same drummer is live

  • Seriously, if you let a drum machine turn you away from music, you're going to miss out on some of the best bands. Personally, I love drum machines and synths and think they have a really cool sound. It would be boring if every band conformed to the "guitar/bass/singer/drums" lineup.

  • One of the most innovative and dastardly underrated bands of the New Wave era. RIP Joe and Marc.

  • @SirHatchporch , RIP have they passed on?? or do you mean the music?

  • @tangoseven2 Yes, guitarist Marc Moreland and percussionist Joe Nanini both died a few years back.

Singer Stan Ridgway also has a solo song called "Talking Wall of Voodoo Blues" where he mentions their deaths.

  • thanks for the response, but wow i didnt this and im kinda shocked !! how did it happend and WOW im so gettin into the wall and i feel like i just got robbed of some amazing talent !!

  • Joe died of a brain hemorrhage in 2000 (age 45) and Marc died of liver failure in 2002 (age 44). It's unbelievably sad that both died so young.

  • Thanks for the info SirHatch

  • "I understand, just a little. No comprende, it's riddle". I still use that line when speaking to a Spanish-speaking person. No one has clue where it comes from.

  • 80's at their best. the difference is that these guys were really talented and this song will live forever as one of the greatest.

  • awesome!!

  • Marc Moreland -- such an underrated guitarist. Incredibly gifted and idiosyncratic (same goes for Joe Nanini).

  • great performance

  • The Band is tight - the drummer is a freakin' clock - right on time - 5/5stars

    Outstanding Live performance

  • Astute comments. These guys, unlike so many rock bands, can actually play their songs properly.

I saw them years ago in London. They opened for Bow Wow Wow and were received with irritated impatience when they weren't being bored.

But they were damn good. They did Ring of Fire, the Johnny Cash song, and some song about a tetse fly, in which Ridgeway swatted an imaginary fly away from his ear.

A good weird band that deserves to be remembered- and listened to.

  • Actually there is a drum machine carrying the beat, the drummer is playing behind it. I used to have the actual drum machine. Bought it from a friend of the band. It still had the beat programmed into it. It was a Korg... it's now dead with most of the early electronics from that era. Made cheap with planned obsolescence.

  • What was the full name of the drum machine?

  • That's cause he's playing to a "clock"......they're using a drum loop, he's playing accents on top

  • @SureFire420 That's Joe Nanini - known for drumming on just about everything: pots, pans, tins... He died young, sadly.

  • @SureFire420 Stan still performs...friend him on Myspace...I have seen them live 100 years ago in the 80's! I miss the 80's! I know I have to get over it:) I love this group, but Stan is Wall of Voodoo...

  • yo this song is way better in the music video

  • Its the 80's and the whole audience is probably on cocaine. Stan Ridgway went solo from here and continues to put out great stuff all the time. Tours and shows too. Saw him recently in Austin and he's still the greatest songwriter! See him and you'll get hooked.

  • Your an idiot by saying that

  • well it was the 80s,but its not they were passing around the mirror, yeah, he is an idiot, thank you

  • It was the 80's: EVERYONE was on coke. No, wait, that was the 70's...

  • i wish i was in ti ji una eating bbq d iguana!!!!!!!!! this was a great tune!!!!!!!!

  • The best song ever to be sung by Stan...and Wall of Voodoo....

Sorry that Oli (Joe) and Marc are no longer with us...No one can create there enigmatic sound..Rock on..been a fan since the beginning..........

  • awesome!

  • Geek Rock!

  • What exactly is geek rock?

  • If you have to ask, it's not worth explaining.

  • This was november 1982 I saw it as a kid.

  • they are so great live!

  • Love it.

  • Great stuff!! Thank you so much for posting these great WOV videos!

  • I wish I was in tijuana eating barbecued iguana..

  • I swear my iguana frowns everytime that line comes on. :)

Boy, these guys look nothing like I expected.

  • @gianca60 I wish i was in Tijuana, eating barbecued marijuana :-P

  • I'm sure Celtic Frost did a cover of this song.

  • NICE!

  • I wish I can sing this song with British Actress Kate Beckinsale for good!

    I mean it!

  • es muy buano gracias mi amigo el oh el! sinco *'s

  • I totally agree with L1zzardk1ng

  • ace!

    remember watching this :)

  • Good Song, Better In Studio though

  • True, it's crisper and tighter as a studio outing...but you have to love the frenzy of the group live, and the cool jerkiness of their movements, Stan's facial expressions, et cetera...there are great aspects of both versions.

  • @pyenapple Cocaine helped :)

  • It's not so bad at all!

  • awesome! ive been wanting to watch a live performance of this. thanks!!
