Hoop Dreams was the real deal along with Soul In The Hole in 97'.That scene where Arthur's father skips out on the family ball game 2 go get high in front of everybody is still heartbreaking

"Hoop Dreams" is one of those films that all young athletes should watch and digest. Not to break their spirits but to show them their true worth in the eyes of the coaches, programs, and etc... The documentary showed just how expendable these young kids were once the W-columns began to thin out.

I just watched the movie again last night and then got curious on what happened to them and the family. The guys never made it to the NBA as many know but I was very saddened to hear that Arthur's father Bo Agee was shot and killed in 2004 but even worse was William Gate's brother Curtis was also murdered in 2001. Such a waste....

Arthur played slam ball and was in a 1999 TNT movie called "Passing Glory". He is a motivational speaker. William had 3 more kids and is a preacher.

@dubspoon in 2001, william was given a chance for to enter the nba, he tryed out for the wizards and it was said that he did pretty well but at near the end of the practise his ankle gave out and he gave up on basketball after that.
