  • God, wish I could do a vibrato like that!!

  • @heartattack60

i no come to mi channel

  • hahahahahaha told u i had an acount ben btw THIS SONG IS AWESOME

  • i like this music. now i play thai flute.

  • One of the great pieces ever played and James Galway bring it a live

  • I'm sorry. no offense but he has some crude posture. I played for 4 years. And I used to get whipped. But good high notes.

  • @TransAbsolute I thought that too about his posture initially, but if you take a closer look, a surprising number of advanced flautists have the same posture. It's common practice, and it's also more comfortable on the arms then to have them raised rigid (especially true when practicing for hours and hours, yes? :D).

  • @phoenixashes0013 yeah I guess that makes sense.

  • Lovely song

  • he is just simply amazing :) Does anyone know what sorta standard you need to be to play this song...? I mean yes it slow but doesn't sound easy either hahaha, but i love it so much and would love to play it :D (im doing 4th grade atm)

  • @eddydagun I play the flute and i know that for me that if i know the notes then i can play anything.

  • I too got married with this as my walking in music - this is the one song that me and my dad, Wesley White can play together and so it is very, very special to our family - I wrote in to Jim'll Fix it to meet James Galway and got knocked back, however, it is still the most spiritual tune ever to me and always makes me think back to my and my Dad, mid seventies doing our thing!!!!!!!!x x

  • IMI PLACE TARE MULT!! FAIN DE TOT

  • I got married may 8th 2010, This was music i walked into. Think no dry eyes in room. xxxx

  • lovely

  • When I finally walk down the isle, I hope it will be to this song... lovely.

  • how old are you

  • the best!

  • Great sound ....1970s??

  • Piękne wykonanie... myślę, że na flecie poprzecznym brzmi najlepiej, a Sir James Galway w grę wkłada serce...

  • reminds me of my mum x

  • Flöte spielen kann er!!

  • This was how i entered my wedding to this, not a dry eye in building

  • @nikicolbert good idea

  • Very nice. You could also make your own accompaniment to this by inputting into Finale or Sibelius. Just play back the guitar (or piano) while reading the flute part. You can also export the piano part as a sound file for playalong.

  • *Sheds tear*.... Soooooo beautiful.... this sooo motivates me to play my flute more!! C'MON MOTIVATION!!!

  • 6 retarded people who doesn't like this !!!!!! .... are you tone-deaf or what !!???

  • @Nano1990n It's an opinion, no need to name call. Some people don't like the Mona Lisa. They are in the minority and they know it.

  • yay im learning that song

  • A wonderful combo- a great flautist like Galloway combined with amazing music by John Denver. This guy's flute added alot to the LOTR soundtrack too-

  • My 9 year old daughter just won the local urdd (welsh music compeition) playing this very tune and it brought a tear to our eyes. We are so proud of you Leah

  • swanseastew - I'm surprised you did not post Leah's performance yet ! She must be sensational ! This sounds from your description she was competing against lots of adults, all the more impressive. I've got some playlists featuring flute if your family might be interested. Although I'm virtually half & half Danish/German, my name says I am Welsh - Chuck Jones.

I enjoyed our drive up the Wye to Bangor and a day on Anglesey 3 years ago, just beautiful ! ! ! !

  • Oh My Gosh....HE IS BEYOND AMAZIINGG!!!

Uchh....I really want a download of this song....does anyone have it or know where I can find it??

  • It's available on Itunes

  • i am jealous of every aspect of his playing. i will work harder =]

and wow, i really want to play on that flute,

  • I know people think this is a simple song and that a preliminary flute player could learn this, but its not about difficulty. Its simply about technique and texture, which Sir Galway provides awesomely.

And, to all the snobby flute players who think they could do better...

He's the one making the money, not you :) (if the golden flute counts for anything, yes?)

  • Yep.

Any musician knows that playing something as written isnt where the skill lies. Making music goes far beyond what is written.

I even tried playing this song after I heard this recording. The notes are easy, trying to blend everything together isnt.

Example: Too much tongue ruins this piece. You have to know how to glide in and out of each phrase. If you play it like Tu Tu Tu Tu it sounds like ass.

  • Brilliant comment! I couldn't agree more. I love to see good covers and comments saying 'it's rubbish nothing like the original' really annoy me. It's all in the delivery and to give a song a piece of yourself is great thing.

  • this man is good read the book about him,all the snobs like to put him down because they are jealous, poor boy comes good fact. How many of them could play flute with finger injury, also auditioning for Berlin Philharmonic where piano tries to tell him how to read the score, Sir James now, plain James at the time goes behind the curtain plays the whole part with no music Katchaturian sitting in the stalls decides thats my lead Flautist. end of story .

  • beautiful

  • has any one the flute notes for the loyalist flute band style of playing, i heard a band in belfast playing it and i play in a loyalist band and would love to play this on the rd

  • Rexicano: I think all this argument about Galway is a matter of personal taste concerning flute players. I do love Maxence Larrieu version of Mercadante and do not like Galway version at all - too 'light and happy' for MY taste. I prefer for example William Bennet badinerie. I prefer Rampal´s version of Tartini concert for example...but this does not mean that Galway is a lousy player, on the contrary: is wonderful. Listen to his Vivaldi four seasons, the guy has good ideas

  • I´m not a hard die fan of Galway, but he is indeed a fantastic player, and for sure one of the best flutist in the world. Sometimes I think all this people critizing him are just repeating what some of their teachers told them, z.b. that his Bach´s sonatas interpretation are out of style and that sort of comments. But if you listen it when your ears and mind open IS PURE BEAUTY. Or listen the 'pastorale' concerto by J. Rodrigo, or his Khachaturian´s, or his Mendelsohnn, etc. These are GREAT

  • just the fact that he has this song memorised stuns me. he is such an amazing player! i hope i can be as good as him one day

  • Happy Birthday James Galway :)

  • I agree with Rexicano. Alain Marion was a fantastic flute player I listened to him several times in France. He was really refined and had a sound very rich and not so vulgar!

  • love this tune by james and have a flute quite simular mines gold and silver though mr galway has a very expensive compared to mine got mine for 800 quid

  • You fill up my senses!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ma come ve fà a piace' 'sta canzonetta cretina, boh!

  • love the music.. =)

  • This man is a legend, he is the best flute player in the world, listen to him playing classical music or evn The Lord Of The rings theme.

    James Galway, An Ulster legend.

  • I don't think he is the best flute player in the world. He is a good business man. But when I want to listen to classical music and now I speak about interpretation, I prefer Rampal or Larrieu, or Adorjan.James Galway has a fantastic technique and a personal sound and vibrato but I don't consider him a great performer of classical music. His Bach Sonatas, for example, are really off style and I prefer Nicolet or Larrieu.

  • WHO CARES YOU ARROGANT FOOL

  • YOU REALLY ARE A PRETENTIOUS FOOL.

  • And you spend your time writing to fools....ha.

  • he is amazingly talented, and if u think that this is boring, then why did u choose 2 watch it???

  • Usually I listen to classical music. I didnt know it was boring before watching this video. Sir Jimmy is a great musician but I don't like this piece. That's all!

  • To YOU! Only because you DO NOT know HOW TO APPRECIATE MUSIC!

  • So peaceful and beautiful!

  • amazing....the best living flute player..

  • He is a very unique and talented flautist.

    Definitely one in a million.

  • perfect

  • *his

  • Ian Anderson.

He puts this guy to shame.

This is pansy music compared to this.

  • Beautiful! Only the angels in Heaven could possibly be better.

  • So beautiful. I play the flute and compared to me this is just amazing!

  • O flautista é muito bom agora a música... fraquiiiinha...the flustist is good...playing a poor music

  • Muito bom, perfeito cara, um dos melhores para me.

  • He is just so awsome! *admire* Anyone knows where you can get the notes för this song?

  • Yo creo q James Galway es el mejor flautista del mundo!!, despues de el estaria Ian Anderson

  • This is really the song on which Galway built his career :D

I think he's the best flutist ever anyway.

  • Then you'll know that it's flautist! :O lol

  • Sorry to butt in, but Galway himself said

    "I am a flute player, not a flautist. I don't have a flaut, and I've never flauted."

But it's an ongoing argument. :D

  • Bleah!

  • he is my idol!

  • nice!

  • wat a man true ledge from good old northern ireland ulster
