Rather have a M1A. I have a Arlington Ord. built T26 Tanker in 7.62mm NM bedded and unitized by me. Shoots 1MOA with M80 ball and my hand loads. Bought for $550 in 95' no way I'd pay for a Shuff''s for what he charges. Get a good used M1A and be done better. The Hell with chopping up the finest service rifle ever produced. Shuff's or any other butcher will never get any of my CMP M1's that's for sure.
If you could modify that weapon so it would take a .30-06 magazine feeding system you would make alot of money because no one has done it. You couldn't produce enough to meet the demand!!!! Has alot of potential, just waiting for that modification.
Is it safe to shoot any .308 ammo in it or is it like the .30-06 where you have to make sure it is either surplus M2 ball or otherwise safe to shoot so it doesn't mess the gun up?
I see that someone earlier asked about .30-06 BAR mag well conversions. If someone came out with a conversion that didn't require modifying the magazine and/or making a permanent change to the receiver I'd jump on it.
This is a magnificent rifle Shuff. The only thing that kills me is by the time its done you have maybe a $700 garand, $800 for the M14 mod and $450 for the mini G. What I end up with is not a $2k rifle. Is there any way to do it a little expense?
@womsterr Purchase a Garand from the CMP for $495 and that's $200 off. The conversion itself for the mag is probably the cheapest out there. If I'm wrong, let me know. I try to keep my prices at the lower tier.
Weird question, but would you do a Magazine conversion to a gun that has been "converted" into a BM59 sans BM59 trigger group? I'd LOVE to have a BM59, but the magazine prices for them are preposterous compared to M14 mags.
Springfield Armory actually tested a BAR mag fed M1 called the T20E1 and T20E2. They were both select fire rifles. I wonder if you could get the blue prints from them to help make the mods easier. I would buy a BAR mag fed M1.
@disturbedone5009 Yes SA did. The problem with the BAR mod is that the mag itself also has to be modified. I don't want to have to have my customers trying to mod mags when the one they may have, wears out. The mag mod is also a bit extensive.
even though the magazine holds the bolt open, what happens when you take the magazine out to swap for a loaded one?

@ctophu The same thing as the FAL's with no bolt hold open, the bolt goes home.

So after the magazine is removed the bolt moves forward?
nbenicewicz 1 year ago
@nbenicewicz Correct.

@ShuffsPrk Thanks for getting back to me.
Would there be a way to make the bolt stay open like the M14/M1As though?
nbenicewicz 1 year ago
@nbenicewicz
There is but I haven't been able to find a foundry to cast the stop I've designed.
ShuffsPrk 1 year ago
@ShuffsPrk Thanks
BTW I have a Garand rifle that is chambered in .30-06, would there be a way I could convert my rifle to what we see in this video?
nbenicewicz 1 year ago
@nbenicewicz I don't do a 30/06 mag fed conversion. I only install .308 brls and go that route.
ShuffsPrk 1 year ago
@ShuffsPrk I was just wondering if I installed a .308 barrel into my mine if it would be possible to use the M14 mag well conversion.
If you don't know thanks anyway.
nbenicewicz 1 year ago
@nbenicewicz Well yes, that is what the conversion is. I install a .308 brl and do the mill work.

@WWIIOLgeorgh
You can't go from a BM59 to an M14 mag. The inside of the receiver has portions milled out in the 59 mod that are needed for the 14 mod.
ShuffsPrk 1 year ago
@ShuffsPrk I was actually thinking more along the lines of the BM59 parts being assembled on an otherwise stock M1 receiver.

I have seen m1 Garand's using bar mags. Could you do that mod?
ECTBWHO 1 year ago
@ECTBWHO
I've chose not to attempt that mod. I've not found good results posted after it has been done. Not ruling it out for all time, just for now.

Yeah well I guess if you want something that no one has you might have to put up with some extra work. I still would buy one.

I bet this would be awesome with a BM59 tricompensator.
