Well, the manga and original anime is famous for being the first yaoi to be published and aired on TV. And it's not supposed to make much sense, it's a parody! That's the whole definition of a parody, to make the original story not make sense and to make it funny. XD

You have to realize that these are characters from the manga and anime Patalliro! imitating this story in a parody. The creators took the original and placed the characters in these roles in order to make it's purpose humor driven only. You have to know Patalliro's character to know why he was chosen as Son Goku. You have to have seen the original story of him.

@ljfox27 well son goku (saiyuki) is a kid because the creator aimed saiyuki for teenagers and the other goku (DBZ) is only based on the chinese novel character and has been given a man-from-other-planet to make DBZ story more originality

Patalliro is a manga drawn by Mineo Maya -a comedy manga- and the legend of Saiyuki is just that- a widely told Japanese legend. The manga Patalliro Saiyuki as well as the anime were meant to parody the legend using the characters from a long running manga.

Just because you like one version (I believe it's even less acurate) doesn't mean you should trash another.

This show is meant as a joke.

It didn't influence Dragonball. Son Goku from Dragonball is based on Son Wukong the Monkey King from the Chinese classic literature. (In Patalliro Saiyuki the fat guy) .. He's part of monks who spread Buddhism through China. This is obviously a parody of the original story: The Journey to the West

Saiyuki Gensomaden, Patalliro Saiyuki, etc. are not original story. Original Saiyuki is a fantasy novel written 500 years ago in China. Go search wiki for the title "Journey to the West" for the original Saiyuki.
