One of the things i love most about Elliott, was his live performances. He often made mistakes while playing or forgetting words, and like he said he was going to, He showed what its like to be a person. He gives me the inspiration for almost all my music, and he seems like the only person i could relate to in harder times. well....I'll never know him know, but I'll miss him anyhow.
i like i didn't understand by elliott. i mean, i love all his songs. but this song is just so great. both the original and the alternate version :) same goes for a distorted reality is now a necessity to be free. both versions are so lovely. and it shows how much he changes up his lyrics from time to time.
The one man who has inspired my own music the most. I have every album, single, b-side and bootleg but it's still not enough. I wish Elliott was still with us. His genius was one of a kind. I can only hope to make music even half as good as his, if that.
I almost don't know what to say. Listening to him play I Don't Understand on the piano was such that you can't even give it superlatives. THAT is how good he was. I just wish that it wasn't in the past tense. I've known about him for several years, but listening to one of his songs on my iPod the other day, "I Got It".... thank God.
Oh, and thank you for posting this video. It's so touching.
I think interviewers ask "superficial" and "shallow" questions because they don't want to come off as invasive. What do you expect them to ask? "What events in your childhood contributed to your struggles with addiction?"
Besides, Elliott's answers are honest and insightful, making the interview completely worth listening to.
Poor baby. When he talks it hurts a bit, like he doesn't know what to say, like he feels he's not really meant to be there. And yet he's so darling, like him not wanting to be there just makes him all the more deserving to have the spotlight.
Wow, both of these videos you have put together are amazing. Great job. :)
I feel sad that Elliott Smith was sad, and that a lot of people in this world are sad. I just want to give him a big hug. What a great and gifted man. I wish I could have seen him in person. RIP
i see people give glory to unworthy people and when i hear people say great things about elliott i dont feel that anger, its as if its very fitting. as if elliott cant hide his beauty and love from us.
him playing i didn't understand is the best thing i have ever heard, seeing his face and watching his lips move, eyes shut, brings me to tears, i love you so much elliott <3
every time is see/hear him it actually makes me cry, knowing i'll never actually see/hear him. it's amazing how powerful this man can be, that most of us have never even met. what a beautiful person.
very well put...I was just thinking the same thing. I was thinking about the line..."I'm never gonna know you now, but I'm gonna love you anyhow", and how it now applies to Him.
What?? Ricks are some of the best guitars ever made. There's no question that Elliott had excellent taste. Even his old Yamaha FG180 acoustic was an amazing guitar, especially for the price he paid. He knew a gem when he found one.
wow, I didn't understand is brilliant with piano. Maybe that's just my personal aversion to acapella stuff, but I did think the picardy 3rd ending (the ending) on XO sounded weird and rushed the way it was done with the voices
yeah, the piano compliments his voice alot better for that song, and suits the subject matter to be solo, and i love the little turnaround thing at the end
I love it when Elliott curses. Dunno why.
