The spongey 'thing' is a damper used mostly by DJ's when one cup is closed and off the ear and held between the head and shoulder so to speak. This is so the Dj can hear the fading out of the current track and the fading in of the next one. Hope this answers your question. Trance on...! with greetings from Malta.

Switched to HDJ 1000 by pioneer and they been pretty good so far. May get the 2000's soon.

Hey Bro, Great review. Thumbs up. Just wanted to let you know if you dont know yet what the attachable sponge for the headphones is for. It serves the purpose of a shoulder pad when cueing with one earpiece on your head and the headphones are resting on your shoulder. (when head is tilted). I hope that helps.

great review.. I personaly Love my Allen & Heath Xone XD-53.. check them out.. i had Sony V700dj, Pionner HDJ1000/200 and stanton Pro dj 3000 and by far my XD-53 are the best!!! thanks for your review!
