I am a huge Sesame Street fan... that does not think it should be government funded. PBS, and Sesame Workshop, who makes Sesame Street both could be fine without the funding. The government only pays 15% of PBS's budget, Sesame Workshop, an even smaller 5%. They could easily be able to get more donations. Sesame Workshop actually uses the profits from merchandise, in addition to donations, to help fund the show. With just a little more fundraising, both could keep going without taxpayer money.

The Magic School Bus and Bill Nye the Science Guy taught me science, Kratts' Creatures taught me about different kinds of animals, Adventures from the Book of Virtues and Wishbone taught me moral values through stories, and Arthur was a guilty pleasure of mine just to watch and kill some time before I had to leave for school. And the best part of PBS, it had no commercial that cut 8 minutes between our show.

In Australia, we have the government run ABC and SBS television and radio stations. They even supply a 24 hour news channel. In my opinion, these stations are probably some of the most politically neutral in our country. I believe a lot of people see it as a valuable part of our nation's media and removing it would be tantamount to political suicide. It's value is based not on a financial return, but on the fact that people can remain informed without commercial interests being a factor.

Americans, do not ever let your public TV channel to take ads. I am not American, we used to have a GREAT public tv: great art shows, classical and folcloral music shows, documentaries, educational programs, classical movies, extraordinary literature adaptations...Then, goverment decided to take ads for that channel. Now, for the ratings, our paublic channel is broadcasting idiotic soap operas, melodramas, stupid stupid tv series and worst kind of pop music. :(

In Australia, we have the government run ABC and SBS television and radio stations. They even supply a 24 hour news channel. In my opinion, these stations are probably some of the most politically neutral in our country. I believe a lot of people see it as a valuable part of our nation's media and removing it would be tantamount to political suicide. It's value is based not on a financial return, but on the fact that people can remain informed without commercial interests being a factor.

unions arent exactly a good thing. think about how many jobs have been and will be outsourced because buisness owners dont want to have to increase wages and deal with a protest every year. its not like it was a 30+ years ago jobs dont need much protection and unions arent very nessasary. i mean im dont care either way but if you cant look at any political problem from both sides you should probably stay away from voting and what not. reps look at dems just like dems look at reps.

All of our funding is paid for by placing future generations in debt. Which is wrong. We cannot enter our children into contracts for which they did not consent to. This includes social contracts like that whole government constitution thing that is based off of the idea that might makes right (democracy).

It's the most bloated part of our budget along with the tax cuts, yet anytime a debt debate gets in full swing, they go on and on about welfare and payroll tax cuts. Just last month congress passed a 700 billion dollar defense spending bill without anyone giving two shits, yet if unemployment benefits need another boost, you can bet the GOP will be in full "fiscal" mode
