o ok then kool idk if i will even get the 9800 i might just end up spending a little bit more and get geforce 7800 gs and adc to dvi adapter but idk thats gonna be in the future.
i was kidding about gta4, it would not run on a powermac g4 even if it was released for mac os. i have a new ATI 1GB 4890 and it will not run at full settings on an intel q9650 and 4gb 10666 ram.
ok *cracks knuckles* dual 1.0 GHz ppc g4 with 2mb of L2 chache 1.0 gb of ram ati radeon 9800 pro w/ 128 mb of vram other vid card w/ 64 mb of vram 80 gb and 500 gb hard drive dual apple superdrives @ 2X speed, dual layer as well one 4 port usb card one wireless pci card OS's include 10.5 leopard 10.3 panther 9.2.2 (no name lol) extra info contains a broken ethernet port that good! :)
if you can put them in raid, most people don't think about this but it really helps performance in speed plus you als get more hd space ... you know what raid is right ? two of the same size drive that in software data is striped between them so read times are lower
yeah don't worry i know what raid is, and thats a pretty good idea ...but i use all my hdds for different things, one is for the o/s one is for my media like music and pictures, one is for downloaded programs(somewhat of a backup) and the last one is for just for anything
If OSX's raid is as similar to the software RAID in BSD (which it most likely is, but with an easy to use GUI), then the drive's don't need to be the same size...unless of course that easy to use GUI doesn't allow identically sized drives to be RAIDed.
RAID=Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks, though it's generally expensive.
RAID0= many disks added up to one big one, so you see MacintoshHD as one 80GB (but with two 40GB).
RAID1= many disks storing the same thing (40GB total with 2 40GB).
dude i just bought a power mac g4 mdd with the 1.0 GHz dual core, and was wondering would you recommend me upgrading the processor to a 1.8 GHz dual core? How much of a difference in speed do you think that would make? I have yet to see somebody upgrade the processor on their power macs.
I would say that It won't run that much different. Well, obviously it will be a little bit of a boost in speed, but you haveto think about the heat. Because these CPU's already have MASSIVE heat sinks because they were basically trying to get the most power out of the G4 before it died. So you would need a big fan or something, which then might put a strain on the old power supply.
does your computer ever overheat with the new graphics card?
dylanw94 2 years ago
no but the mdd are know to be like an inferno, and i can attest to that even the outside and the especially the back exhaust are really hot

Hope this helped:)
