@Acorparation That's a stupid reason to hate on Careless Whisper. I will also like to say fuck Kenny G, but don't hate on a song that was sexy when it was originally made.
@Raikoninja11 point taken =) But seeing as this is a world in which individual opinions are allowed I will retain the right to express mine. And ya, fuck Kenny. I feel kinda bad for his kid sometimes
Great stuff here...but I think you need to edit the 2 vids down into 1 using a bracket-style tournament. The riff from "Harden My Heart" has to be the #1 seed due to number of weeks spent in the brain after hearing it.
you are missing work by Rafael Ravenscroft, one of the best sax players of all time. his work can be heard on the final cut album by Floyd,2 suns in the sunset and the gunners dream. also on pictures at 11 album by Robert plant in the song pledge pin. i know baker st was in 78' but it should get honorable mention??? you gotta have some "Raf"on your list or its still incomlete imo. that being said you did say recognizable sax solos, which some of these may not be to most.
Just a small comment... it appears that your list mostly contains American entries (yes, I noticed Nena, Dire Straits, Wham! etc.), some of which I've never even heard about. Now this isn't entirely surprising, because I grew up on the other side of the Big Pond and am more familiar with European acts. Now I'm trying to think of a couple... in hindsight, it seems like every pop song had a sax solo in it in the eighties, but it's hard to think of any. Anyway, how about Going home (Local hero)?
@BravoTeam127 Pity it wasn't actually a member of the band that was playing, eh? Mind, if you're going to bring in a ringer it may as well be one of the best ;o)
If you keep adding, consider the sax on Supertramp's Logical Song. Most of the ones you've got are the raunchy style which certainly fits with the rock genre. For some reason that Supertramp solo seems to be a genre bender. Thanks for the music.
Hows about the mighty : Men At Work - Who Can It Be Now (1981),
On that note, does anyone recall any sax players with "lazy eye" condition like the lead singer for Men At Work?
I once sat in the front row for Dizzy Gillespie - Ya almost misses the music just looking at them elastic cheeks!...His playin' was like buttah though..he took you out of this world while you were sitting in your seat... i digress or was it tangentisizin'...tanks

@Microfuture I don't understand your question. Sorry. Are you looking for the full videos of the songs these solos were taken from, or sheet music, or something else?
@StevenCharlesJazz I put it in the first vid but I had to take it out because of a copyright claim. It's too bad because it's definitely the first solo I think of from that decade.
@dangoist OK cool, I was literally a bit dumbfounded that it was missing. Eventually the labels will realize it's better for them to let their music be seen & heard! What do they gain by limiting exposure of their artists, it's crazy...
@StevenCharlesJazz I agree 100 percent. It's wrongheaded for the labels to demand videos be taken down without even considering the nature of the video. In this case, it's a compilation with brief clips from the songs...it's a tribute video, as opposed to an attempt to steal someone else's work and make money off of it. (Seems like there are more gray areas in the copyright area than there used to be.)
Disliked cuz of careless whisper. Sorry guys but anything Kenny G ever played is in my bad books

crazygrainger2006 1 year ago
If you do plan to make another video like this, my recommendations for Sax solos are:
Simply the Best (another Tina Turner chart)
I Send A Message (another INXS chart)
Simon Lloyd's Sax solo in Electric Blue (Icehouse)
The solo from Joe Cocker's cover of "You Can Leave Your Hat On".
Asides from that, great selection in both of your videos.
crazygrainger2006 1 year ago
A better Tim Capello solo is the one on One Of The Living or his song from Lost Boys - I Still Believe!
