I cant remember, but before this game came out did people know anything of raiden or that you would play as a another character? Or did konami only show snake and his story? Like i said i can not remember, but i enjoyed this game like the rest.

@excaliber15 Before the game came out it hadn't been announced that you would play as Raiden, it was a last minute surprise. In the trailers, Konami placed Snake in all of Raiden's parts to keep him a secret ..

@blklightning330 The reason why they are doing 2 and 3 is because mgs1 is far to outdated to be on ps3 in HD. (Kojima said this) You would have to build the whole game from scratch again and that takes alot of time, although they said that a complete re-imagining of the game could be made in the future!

@djslapdash nahh I actually loved MGS2s story, it had so many twists & as you said innovations. Plus the controls were tuned to a science. The way i see it is

MGS1 - story, 3D graphics, and controls that set the bar

MGS2 - fine tuned controls and added a large number of twists to the story

MGS3 - amazing AMAZING graphics for the PS2, water effects looked like they were from the PS3 era especially in the jungle when you were to meet with EVA behind the waterfall

This game was great. Similar to the first metal gear game on the psx. I remember being disappointed when i had to play a Raiden though. Lame, skinny young transvestite. I love how the trailer makes you THINK you are going to play as SNAKE but then once u get the game you find out that 70% is played using Raiden. As far as all the metal gear games to follow this one goes, I hate them. They became too insane, rediculous and retarded.

However, MGS4 managed to do the impossible: it turned Raiden into a legitimate and interesting character and then even went as far as to make him incredibly cool. And the fact you don't get to play him (even if this time you really want to) is a stroke of genius.

I think that was Hideo Kojima's own little way of paying us back... so many people; fans and players alike, were bitching about the fact that Raiden was the main character for most of MGS2... how fair and Ironic that he should take the most un-loved character of the game... and re-make him to be perhaps the most BAD ASS character in the 4 perhaps. I agree, definitly a stroke of genius on his part...

Without a doubt this is the greatest trailer ever, but the game was the greatest disappointment ever. Completely turned me off for the future of the franchise, so when I finally played Snake Eater a year or so after its release, I was blown away, but MGS was still my favorite, second all time to FFVII. And now on the PS3 I got MGS4, and there's no doubt about it, it was awesome, but there is a short stint when you're back in Shadow Moses, and after I beat the game, I had to replay the original.

I played the demo like there was no tomorrow.

Raiden and the Big Shell put a damper on all that high.

But I still consider this the best MGS trailer. It was coming off of an excellent PS game with PS2 graphics, abilities, environments, music, and promise that were off the hook!

I don't care what anyone says, Metal Gear Solid 2 is greatness and probably one the best games ever made. Sure Raiden is a little anoying but he's still a good character(even if he's not as cool as Snake) While it may not be as good as the original Metal Gear Solid, I still consider MGS2: Sons of Liberty to be one of the best games of all time. HANDS DOWN.
