@1DavidTennant Austrian is not a language ok thats just like saying canadian is a langauge. So Austrian is a nationality. Countries like Switzerland and Austria speak german but different sounding and wording. Its just like english (american) and english (uk) Uk english a lot different including wording Like below post said In german good by is auf wiedersehen but maybe in sweizer deutsch maybe different
@okpapereat jeez you're taking this waaay to seriously. I was just kidding. Personally I'm German and as far as I know that sort of bickering has been going on for ages between Austria and Germany.
Btw Obama has said that Austrians speak Austrian lol (though he obviously doesn't know what he's talking about).
@1DavidTennant lol i know the united states are like that , some are clueless. I remeber once John McCain refrenced czech republic as Czechoslovakia this makes me laugh lol
@feuerwassergeist Ja, danke für die Erklärung... Ich wusste das aber schon! Nachdem ich dieses Video geguckt hatte, habe ich diese Worte nachgeschlagen =) Also.. danke sowieso.
@Zerstorter . must be a bad school. In Bayern and also in Austria, the people say "Pfiat di" ...
"servus" is slang. some people in bavaria ( the souhern part of germany) or in austria say that. it means hello and goodbye. it's a little like the italian "ciao" oder the hawaiian "aloha"
we austrians understand the germans in every word, cause its the same german we learn in school or books are written with. the germans speak in there spare time "perfect german". this is why it sounds so ugly. we austrians have our own slang, but the germans dont understand that.

@MultiFreakygeek ne war ich nich^^ aber ich finde sie sollte shcon dazu sagen dass das bayrisch/österreichisch is, sonst lernen die leute das & denken jeder in deutschland würde so reden ;)
@shufflespack I take it you're from Austria. Do they say pfirtdi in Germany or is it just in Austria? And can u say pfirtdi to someone you just met, your teacher or parents etc. or just friends?
Just we Austrians and some parts of south Germany use pfirti and servas. You may say it to people you just met if they are your age. Older ones and teachers would prefer guten tag, auf wiedersehn.
@shufflespack ... for me there is no difference between germany and austria ... the austrians and parts of switzerland have the same language, the same mentality and the same culture. And btw. austria, parts of italy and switzerland was german for a long time. For example in the Holy roman empire of german nation" for 1000 years ... and also in the last century austria was a german state for two times. But russia, the USA and so on forbid that austria become a german state, until today.
@shufflespack Also unter "Österreichische Monarchie" finde ich auf Wiki nichts ... Meinst du vielleicht das "Erzherzogtum Österreich" ? ... Aber auch das war Teil des Heiligen Römischen Reiches Deutscher Nationen.
Bawaria is the very wonderful southern part of Germany.
The country next to Germany is Austria. And Austria is not Germany, Austria is the place where Arnold Schwarzenegger and Adolf Hitler came from ......
@HesseJamez I'll be honest, it's true. And I'm American. It's mostly because we don't care to know. I'm not "hating on you" homie. haha I'm just being completely honest. But, really, I wanna learn a couple languages but German is harder, for me anyway, than Spanish or French is.
the people in the south say "servus" and "fitti" (oh i hate this word so much!) but the most germans in the rest of germany never say this. trust me. Hello means "hallo" or "moin" or "tach".. "servus" sucks
@mzzzhedison it IS used in germany. in the south. by the way it was not my aim to affront the girl in the video. shes nice and beautiful and seems to be very kind. i just dont like servus and fitti ;)

Great Video. I learned these words many years ago on business trips to Linz. I don't believe they are common much outside of Austria. (along with yo yo and na). More please, I love the Austrian dialect.
@RiA472 When I learned these words in Linz they sounded like "Fear-tee" which was goodbye and "ser-vous" which hello or sometimes goodbye. They would also say something like "vetashon"...
I studied a little German because I worked for an Austrian company and it was interesting. These variations in words are no different then when I eat a "Hoagie" here in Pittsburgh, a guy in New Orleans eats a "Po-Boy" and someone in Boston eats a "Grinder"....
you are adorable. even if this isn't the "typical german" they teach in schools or whatever, it is interesting to hear a different dialect/colloquialisms. i found this very helpful!
OmG manche schreibn echt nen scheiß. ihr sagt das sind östereichische wörter na und darf sie nicht deutsch sagen ich meine die sprache heißt ja deutsch oder nicht ? also ...
No German person in GERMANY would understand these words. These are AUSTRIAN words.
Hello! = Hallo! / Grüß dich! (I greet you!)
Good bye! = Auf Wiedersehen! / Tschüss!
bread bun = Brötchen NOT Semmel
These are AUSTRIAN words. (Although I haven't heard people using these words in Austria, either (except "Semmeln", that's Austrian for "Brötchen"). Even in Austria you say "Grüß dich!" and "Tschüss!". This are words from some wierd Austrian dialect, other German people WON'T understand you.)

Well, yes, it's a German DIALECT. "German" people won't even understand them. Ask any German Person what "pfiat di" means. It doesn't make sense outside of small local groups. She should tell us from what German dialect this is and not that these are actually German words.
mhh wrong, im german ,and "servus" "wie gehts da" and "Pfiat eich" you say in austria, but not in germany , but you say "wie geht es dir" , and "dankeschön" in germany

ARRRWAAAhRW ò_Ó typical steroetypes.... "servus" ._. is austrian or bavarian if you would would say that to a german (not in bavaria / "bayern" or austria / "österreich) they would first look weird and then laugh..... ._. and i've never heard before "pfiat di" but i think, it's bavarian too... just say: "hi"... among friends or "tschüß" / "ciao" / "tüs" to say goodbye or is this an austrian dialect course here?

Actually, Depending on what part of Germany you're from,
She has it right. She's using very familar terms,
For the more. . . Respectful terms it'd be
Danke, Bitte, Hallo, Wie gehts dir.
Very basic terms, You'd use with most people.
