oblivion a LONG while ago. Read "The Twilight of Bel Canto" by Leonardo di Ciampa.
Callas had a "wobble and an ugly voice."
Tebaldi suffered from flatness. It took 25 takes before she was able to sing a pianissimo during recording sessions. Olivero had intensity, but CAPSIR was "NOTED" for Violetta. Opera is musical comedy today.
Miss Tebaldi was able to sang pianissimo from the begining of her carreer as live recordings can proove it : Guglielmo Tell, Assedio Di Corinto, Tannnhauser, Lohengrin, Jules Cesar, Traviata, La bohème, La Wally and many others scores... even in Forza del destino.
Miss Callas was a unique artist, singer and woman and it's unfair to tell she is nothing.
Of course, I agree there are many poor singers nowadays and, unfortunately, they record many records and think there are great artists...
Gigli style of singing was absolutely AWFUL despite a splendid voice.
Tito Schippa had a POOR voice but was a dream when he sang : pure style and deep feelings.
Giacomo Lauri Volpi had a STRANGE instrument but he is, for me, one of the great singer of all times. And Franco Corelli too. And the great Aureliano Pertile.
So I prefer great artists, even with few weaknesses, to "perfect" singing robots from the past to nowadays...
Listen to Mafalda Favero singing this with Beniamino Gigli.

Mercedes Capsir, the list, is too long to elaborate

I definitively prefer :
First : Maria Callas as she had the three voices necessary to sing the score
Second : Renata Tebaldi for the beauty of her voice and her sincerity
Third : Magda Olivero for the drama.
