Listen all. This video is strictly for Gadd fans. Otherwise - and with that top... well, he does look like a mental patient, doesn't he?? "Hold this box, I wanna make scratchy brush patterns on it and sing stonedly to myself" XD
The music that pours out of Steve Gadd is unreal. He can turn it on like a switch. Or maybe it's never turned off. I'm not a worshipper of iconic drummers, but Steve Gadd probably at the top of my favorite list. Everything he does is for the sake of making music good -no ego. His playing does all the talking. And he teaches in such a way that is practical and intuitive. One of the best ever. Thanks for everything Mr Gadd! -check out my vids
Why is it that every time I watch a video of someone on youtube, that person is "totally stoned?" Maybe he's tired. Maybe he's at a loss for words. Hey, I bet the guy holding the box is totally stoned! Look at him just holding that box and staring at the brushes! Haha, SO STONED!
@shuggahhead Dude I understand metal drumming. All metal drumming is quads, triplets, sextuplets, octuplets, and just complex patters that have no musicality to it. Doing double bass at 330 bpm isn't everything in the world. And it's a crying shame when good musicians don't get any fame or acclaim, and these jokers who do nothing but blastbeats and machine gun double bass get big time record deals. Good music is steadily dying (along with good drumming)
@spurious I watch metal drummers practice all the time, and what I watch is not practicing music, they're practicing patterns, and yes I will give them props to the complexity of the patters that they play, but it's not music, it's a circus act.
@spurious Its not ignorance if someone defends an ideal. Ignorance is a lack of knowledge. I think he demonstrated his knowledge on metal drumming quite well when he described what it was. Now if all you have to say is that he is ignorant without some form of argument to back it up, I'd suggest stopping now before you make an idiot out yourself by bashing someone blindly.
@TheColbles2009 If you had full knowledge of metal, you would have to play it until you master it. Metal is far from an easy genre. Metal drummers are essentially athletes and require great speed, endurance and coordination. Granted some metal drummers heavily focus on speed, its not necessarily unmusical if its their conscious decision to play that way for the song style. I appreciate all genres, not metal bashing. Check out Matt Greiner of August Burns Red. Most musical metal drummer i know
@DrummerZM I like him actually! He's not the kind of metal drummers I don't like, I don't like derrek roddy, he makes drums out to all just practiced patters and speed.
@shizo668 On brushes he starts out with "My Romance" and then goes to "Bye Bye Blackbird". On sticks, that could be anything, but it sounds like the bridge on "Tristeza". Same changes, anyway.
hahahahahaha, this is hilarious, because steve gadd is completely stoned, and he is playing on a fucking box, and yet he still sounds better than most drummers in the world put together

This dude can make better music (while stoned) with an ampex box than all these metal drummers with their 10 piece setups.
