  • i was getting so frustrated because I didn't know how to use this feature at all, and this helped me so much! thank you :)

  • what program do you use? if you use sony vegas 8.0 pro, how do you get to the masking tool at 4:41 ? i don't see it on mine...

  • @peterpanfan010 It should come with the tool. If not, you probably have Sony Vegas 8 Movie Studio or Platinum, neither of which have masking. Did you buy or download the program?

  • @xNightshadex I downloaded the program.

  • hahahaha! I've got it! i forgot you posted this lol

  • i want to start making videos. where do i get chromo keyer from?

  • @kytiger808 Should come with Sony Vegas, but some downloaded version don't have the effects, so make sure you get a proper version

  • I think I love you.

This has helped me out so much. Thank you!!

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH! its very hard to find these kind of Disney/Animation tutorials

    again, thanks

  • hey please do one of this tutories of how to made a disney or non disney crossover please i need that help jaja

  • i don´t have this :O what plugins do i need?

  • Do you have Sony Vegas 8 Pro or Sony Vegas Platinum? Pro is the one that comes with it and you shouldn't need a plugin. :)

  • @xNightshadex I have Pro but i do not have it.

  • Did you buy or download it? Sometimes downloaded versions come with fewer or no effects at all.

  • @xNightshadex I downloaded it :( i had no plugins.

  • Yeah, I kinda figured. You'll need to get a different version since there's no way to download SV plugins. Try searching on keygen for 'sony vegas 8 pro crack patch' . Hope that helps.

  • @xNightshadex Thx anyway for an awesome tutorial ;)

  • Np :)

  • @xNightshadex Now i got it!! now i can use this! THX! XD

  • Wow that was fast! lol and np!

  • @xNightshadex hehe yes, hey..do you know any good crossover tutorial?

  • I don't think there are any. Just something you gotta figure out on your own! :)

  • @xNightshadex ok, hehe i see :)

  • This is really helpful, thanks! XD

  • What was that menu you were in when you selected "best" and then "half?"

  • I think it's called the preview display, but I'm not sure. It's on top of the preview screen.

  • you have no idea how much of a help you have been.

I'll send my the first improved cross over I make to you!

  • @kikikyami I'm glad! :D Yay! Can't wait to see it!

  • Thank you so much!

Using multiple chroma keyers never crossed my mind, but it's genius!! lol

  • Thank you so much for uploading this! You helped me a lot!

  • *huggles*!!! thankyou so much for putting this up ^^ has helped me a ton

  • Thank you so much Shade!! You're a life saver! =P My problem was always which chroma keyer color to select... =S Thanks a bunch! ;)

  • This was great. Very helpful. Thank you so much for this trial.

  • What system or software do you use?

  • Sony Vegas 8 Pro

  • Thank you SO much for making this! I've been having this problem every time I edit videos so this REALLY helped!

  • My video program seems to work the same way (Premiere elements 8.0), so this helped, even though I have to find the replacements of those tools without the same name...

  • howd you get the little pen

  • For masking? It's in the pan/crop tools. Just make sure you've clicked the checkmark on in the masking and that you're in the masking bar at the bottom of the pan/crop box (the one with the key diamond shaped keyframes), not the position one. If you've selected the position bar you won't see the pen tool

  • thxs

  • ummm wheres the checkboxs

  • This helps me so much it's insane! o-o

II could never find out how to nicely chroma key o-o

question though, is there any way to chroma key nicely when like, the color you want to get rid of is really similar to what you don't want to get rid of?

like, if I wanted to get rid of the clouds in a scene, but they were close to the color of one of the characters' stomach or something... could i do that or would i have to mask? o-o

sorry if i'm being too confusing xDD

  • I'm glad it helps! :) Here's what you could try doing. If the clouds are the same colour as the character's stomach, do the chroma keying first, not worrying about the stomach, then follow the tip I've put in about ghost-eyes, only mask the stomach instead. in a layer above your chromakeyed one. Try that and see if it helps. :) Hope that makes sense XD

  • Oh , yeah it makes perfect sense! :))

thanks so much , this is gonna help me aloooot :D

    (((:

  • Great tutorial! That´s going to help me lots xD thanks<3

  • Thank Shade, this really helped me!! I started useing Sony Vegas a couple of weeks ago and I'm pretty bad with chroma key ^^ (and with everything else lol) Thank you very much =)

  • Good tutorial!

I do it that way too! :D

but i didn't knew that other people didn't know about it *if that makes sence XD*

I think its awesome that u made a tutorial Good job! :D

  • if people can mask, they should because it looks way better than CK any day XD but I love the effect on the background that you showed, awesome tutorial ;D

  • Well, I find that it just depends on how flat and even the background colours are and how complicated the thing is that you're trying to mask. Sometime masking comes out looking all jagged, even with a blurred edge because the points aren't always exact, but maybe that just me lol. And thanks!

  • I don't make videos, but this was still fascinating to watch! :'D <3 Thanks!

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! This is brilliant! I've always had to battle around with trying to mask without a masking tool and this is just perfect! <3

  • WOW AMAZING THIS HELPS ALOT!

  • you're incredible...

  • Lol, here's to hoping that wasn't sarcasm XD Thanks!

  • O.o

LOL, no, it was being dead serious. I'd have never figured any of that out! XD you're amazing!

  • Very, VERY excellent! This will help a LOT.

I do have a question, though. Do you get the free-hand masking tool on the Sony Vegas program, or do you have to download it? I've gotten trials for three different Sony Vegas, and none of them had it. =(

  • You should have making with Sony Vegas 8 or 9 Pro. Sony Vegas Platinum and Movie Studio don't have it. I had a trial version before but that we before I used making so I don't recall if it comes with it. Your best bet is to buy it or try to find a full cracked and patched version with a keygen code.

  • Wow! Thanks alot!

  • damn O_o you just saved my life! i have a video where i'm trying to have a lot of black and white chroma keyed images against a solid black background so this helped immensely!! thanks! :D

  • Awesome tutorial. Makes me wish I had Vegas all the more. *hehe*

And I know creating some effects feel like they take forever, but the end result is almost always worth it, huh? I created a small animation for one of my videos. Five seconds worth of an animation took about an hour to create and perfect. Again-- worth itttt. :-D So, it's a pain in the butt, but everyone will love ya all the more for it. lol.

  • Lol, I know what you mean. I don't know how many hours I've put into masking...especially before I started with chroma keying but here's hoping the end results were worth the work :)

  • Interesting ... This technique seems easier than how I've been working with chroma keyer! I'm testing it out now :) Thanks for sharing!

  • Thank you SO much!^^

  • thank u sooo much :D it helps alot :D

  • thank you! this was very very helpful!

  • No problem! :)

  • Great tutorial!

  • Thanks!

  • this is actually pretty helpful because I find my problem is when a scene has a background which is multiple shades of the same color. It just kills me some time but this is really helpful. Thanks for uploading this.

  • Yay! I'm glad it helped :)
