I disagree. If you live near someone (as in, neighboring cities) then Wifi, at least for me, seems like a solution to the problem of not having time to visit each other. My friend lives nearby, but too far to drive to sensibly, and there's almost no visible lag whatsoever. Although I can see what you mean on gamebattles, I stopped playing the ladders because I always got screwed and whether I was hosting or not, the other player would be the one with no lag. I don't know how that works but yeah.
