  • How about Jim Gillette's scream in Machine Gun Eddie by Nitro?

  • ozzy-war pigs, plant-immigrant song,-skid row-18 ang life,

  • you guys I guess never heard Michael Sweet of Stryper

  • Speaking of Robert Plant, what about his scream in "How Many More Times" that starts around 6:56?

  • Why do you think bruce dickinson was called the air raid siren

  • Oh yes what about Jim Gilette's scream on his vocal instructional video?

  • All of them have great and unique screams. I think Roger Water's one is the one that stands out as it truly is weird and unique. For Axl's scream, I didn't even realise that that was his voice. Probably my personal favourite scream is still Hansi's one.

  • Axl and Roger have similar screams but I just love Rogers so much, it sounds more insane/mad.

  • never heard of micheal kiske have you?

  • Won't post link. See child in time from 1970.

  • This is what other screams should be measured by.

  • See Ian Gillian on speed king, child in time. Also, whoever played bass on Burn. Great screams. Hard to keep track of Deep Purple personnel. Too many line up changes but they were probably the best in the scream universe.

  • for me, Axl is fav. :D

    Best singer ever! :D

  • plant is the best imho

  • I LOVE THE #5 and the #2

  • What about She's gone by Steelheart?

I know is not a scream, but holy fuck!

  • where's Steven Tyler?

  • best screams ever

  • What about Tom's Angel of Death scream or Superheroes from Racer X that song has a lot of high screams

  • Trapped inside this OC-TA-VAR-I-UM!!!

This is cool list, top 10? Probably not, but still fun

  • Disturbed is a terrible band.

  • niiiceee ,nice video man , i liked it very much although i was expecting for the "i remember you" 's final scream from skid row , but it was nice to see axl there =)

  • I don't understand... Ian Gillan of Deep Purple can hit a C6 and has an awesome scream...

  • Hansi is The Best - NO DOUBT

  • angel of death is all I'm saying

  • Interesting for the doors song you picked the end but have you ever heard the scream in 5 to 1 way better ;)

  • oh, no Steven Tyler - DEmon of screming

  • Daltrey, Daltrey, Daltrey. Eddie Vedder explained Daltrey voice the best. His vocals are like the base of a tree trunk. As Daltrey hits in lower or higher registars, his vocals stay just as thick as the base of the trunk. Listen to Love Reign O'er Me for example. Pearl Jam had to play it in a easier key...seriously. You don't realize Daltrey's powers because your ear tells you it sounds normal. Just listen to any of his stuff and sing along and you will see. YEAH!!!!!!

  • Ian Gillan should be on the list, but why, why eveybody always forget Midnight?!?

  • @BackfromHell77 I totally agree. Man, Gillan had pipes on him! Was listening to the Jesus Christ Superstar soundtrack not too long ago. Ian's vocals are amazing! Good call with him being on this list.

  • axl is a great singer, but he is just a fucking douche bag...

anyway, halford and dickinson al the way <3

  • Not sure I agree with Axl being a great singer. I do think he was in a great band that was very short lived. But I always thought of Axl as having a voice that was definitely unique, but kind of a put on if you will, like more for entertainment than for just pure singing. He always had trouble live, even in their prime. His voice constantly went out and concerts were cut short. Still, there is something to his voice. Just not sure how to articulate it. I do like GnR. Hope this makes sense.

  • @p47paul yeah i agree, axl isnt a singer i will sit down and relax listening to

  • No Little Richard?!

...Oh HARD rocking, well I guess that's ok :)

  • Where is Ian Gillan from Deep Purple?

Listen to Child in Time of Deep Purple...

    Epic Screams.

  • sweeeeeeet(:

  • machine gunn eddie's 30 seconds long scream?

  • Steven Tyler: Dream On, What Kind Of Love Are You On, Draw the Line! That's his nickname "Demon Of Screamin'"!

  • fuck this shit...jared leto bitches

  • The greatest "screamer" in Rock n' Roll ever is Ian Gillan! No one beats him! Listen to Child In Time, Fighting Man, Gethsemane (I Only Want To Say), Freedom, Bloodsucker etc... :)

  • I taught my choirboys how to do rock and roll screams in harmony. Nearly got me fired. Didn't harm them, though, which saved me.

  • ROGER WATERS THE BEST!!!!

  • no wonder Roger waters vocals are shot lol but still an epic scream

  • ROB HALFORD = GOD = KILLER XD very good

  • I'd have said Cemetary Gates by Pantera is by far the best classic style Anselmo Scream on record. Iron maiden and Priest are definitely in the right place. But you forgot Soundgarden. Jesus Christ Pose or Limo Wreck deserve a mention. I'd say Dani Filth, but Roger Waters kinda beat him to it haha. Finally - Tool, "The Grudge". The scream near the end of that is fucking epic.

  • @sonicwingnut Pantera wise id say that this love (the live version) is where he lets loose the most

  • @TheFlight999 hm don't think I heard that before (well I heard them play it actually live once but was more than a bit drunk and attempting to crowdsurf to escape the pit). Is it a falsetto high one or like a brutal hardcore scream? I'd say for brutal Great Southern Trendkill, but I think that first one's actually Seth Putnam from Anal Cunt.

  • @sonicwingnut It's more of a death growl its on the live album you should look at it

  • awsome selection even tho down with the sickness is #1 in my book

  • Roger Waters scream

    *nnghgghghgaahhchh*

    Sorry I just jizzed

  • how is Jesus Christ Pose not in this countdown??? or any other Chris Cornell scream?

  • Comment removed

  • Sorry but I think number 10 is number 1.

  • No, no, Axl is the very best.

  • manowar - black wind, fire and steel 42 seconds scream?

  • nice list, i actually some what agree with it. i was scared for a sec that u werent gunna put bruce up there lol

  • kurt cobaine is great!!

  • The Doors yes, but ... When the Music's Over is much better. Easiely rivals everyones #1 of The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again.

  • Plant has hit A5 other times too :D And Axl, he's beast!

  • This IS a decent list

  • @Bonnogreen Kurt Cobain groans, not screams.

  • Phil Anselmo have tons of screams better than "CFH".

  • No freddy mercury?

  • @Thunderstorm711993 Freddie was never a good screamer.

  • Led Zeppelin is out of the league of ALL of those songs.

  • i saw iron maiden 3 months ago and he sustained it for that long even lolnger hahahah its a close call the top 2

  • Haha ! lol !! you forgot Daniel Heiman as i see !!

  • Axl and Roger Water`s screams are the bests!

  • i know he is not a big singer, but in master exploder, jack black has a fucking awesome scream, i think he should be on the list. :D

  • Ever heard of Chester Bennington? and his scream in the song Given up?

  • want to know a better scream than all of these? search bat country by avenged sevenfold. the scream starts as soon as the video starts

  • Cowboys from Hell is great, but Cemetery Gates has the better scream, By Far!

  • Where are Manowar? Their singer has one of the best screams out there. Check out "Call to arms". And Phil Anselmo's really most badass scream was the one he did in "The Great Southern Trendkill".

  • Excuse me... Nirvana is nowhere to be seen! Must be a mistake!

  • @Bonnogreen not really, no.

  • @ZachValkyrie well said sir hahaha

  • @Bonnogreen Shut the fuck up.

  • Duuuuuuuuuuuuude where's Steven Tyler!??????, XD he's freakin amazing!

  • phil anselmo of pantera hits an A#5 in cemetery gates...

  • CAREFUL WITH THAT AXE, EUGENE!

  • Um!!! Rob Halford in "Run Of The Mill" The Highest note ever hit in a metal song! Give it a listen!

  • @sagamoreboy Not True. Robs highest note ever is the upper harmony a the beginning of Dissident Aggressor (B5) Also, I have heard a few notes higher by some European power metal singers...

  • @ZachValkyrie Halford is best by far !

  • @sagamoreboy I totally agree

  • Axl has circular breathing, that's why he can hold notes so long

  • @EvoVocalChick Wrong, circular breathing only works for wind instruments. Circular breathing works by holding a reservoir of air in your cheeks while you breathe in through your nose; it isn't possible to use circular breathing to extend notes in the modal register because the vocal cords are located within the throat.

  • @ZachValkyrie Go to wikipedia, under Talk:Circular breathing, then other uses.

  • @EvoVocalChick I checked. I'm still right.

  • @ZachValkyrie K, that's cool too. I'm over it.

  • I think Roger has the coolest scream, cause if you look on Run like hell, or Pigs live, he can make his scream "laugh" its freaky...lol

  • oh... and the guy of disturbed is good, but not for a top ten haha well i think so

  • i would like to see here chris cornell, steven tyler, chad gray (mudvayne), maynard has also some pretty bad ass screams

but i liked your top, eventhough axl in third.... i think anselmo is so much better but it's matter of taste haha

  • wat u say about axel roses sustain of high notes is very similar to mat shadows who definetly should be in top 10

  • /watch?v=qGKxkkHLiHU <--- just listen to this......

    best scream ever!

  • great list

  • three of these 'screaming' video's haven't featured i a n g i l l a n ,how strange?!

  • Good list. Could have used some King Diamond though IMO.

  • slayer's angel of death should have been on 10,that scream is epic and he also does it live!

Do you always skip this song for controversy in these lists?

  • @RickMuska That seriously should have been in there

  • Your top three are spot on although I wouldn't put em in that order, they all send shivers down my spine.

  • Roger Waters' scream is definitely THE most terrifying by a wide margin.

  • @kasteman1 axl's is most terrifying

  • @kasteman1 I was going to say that.

Careful with that axe, Eugene.... AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • master explodeR! hahaha

  • POWERSLIDE!!

  • No Ian Gillan?? Weird!

  • really good list, i agreed with most of your choices, awesome.

  • where is chester bennington from linkin park?

  • thats because The Who is ultimate

  • man, I don't want to call you a ignorant, but... WHERE THE HELL IS CHILD IN TIME by IAN GILLAN??? yet another one who underrate deep purple and Gillan's vocals...

  • ROBERT HALFORD = GAY

    DISTURBED = MASTURBED

    DoubleBassDisstroyer = DoubleMotherFucker

don't ask for sebastian "faggot" bach.

  • That Roger Waters scream is beautiful!^^ Almost reminds of some Black Metal vocalists.

  • Hate on Phil Anselmo...its like asking for a death sentence!

  • I remember the Roger Water's scream once scared the shit out of me

  • what about chester bennington he's a god of screaming!!

  • what about CHESTER Bennington!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Disturbed is the best no doubt.

  • love Roger :D

  • Where is Sebastian Bach?

  • #3 should be #1 and The Who is annoying. Nice list though :D Well done

  • YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

  • Awesome fucking list!

  • LOL A5 is the highest Plant ever hit? You're crazy. He's hit over an E7#

  • 2:50 Bruce hit a B5 live before

  • Honorable Mention: Anthony Kiedis of RHCP at 2:35 in "Torture Me" from Stadium Arcadium.

  • Why not make just make a one liner from csi Miami as your #1?

  • And come on, disturbed doesn't even need to be on the list, that's not even a scream, that's just monkey noises, i mean all he said was ooh ah ah ah ah ah ah

  • Come on, you forgot a few, examples:

brad delp from boston at the end of 'smokin'

david lee roth in the song 'somebody get me a doctor'

bruce dickenson has a better one in the song 'run to the hills'

and who can forget about the ever famous: robert plant in the immigrant song

  • I don't know how Hansi could only be at #8 Nobody can sing like he does

  • While there will always be controversy of whose the best, I feel, based on longevity, and just his voice in general, ROB HALFORD has to take it hands down. Have you ever heard him on Pantera home video singin Symptom of the Universe? BEYOND DESCRIPTION! Completely insane. And alot of these studio versions ARE DUBBED. Which is exactly why they dont reproduce them live.

  • i love them all but where is Ian Gillan .

  • WHERE. THE. FUCK. IS. CHILD IN TIME?!?!?!?!?

    seriusly wtf?!?

Child In Time?!? Deep Purple!?!? Where is it?!

Oh, you have some sort'a "secret #0" wich is like better than #1??

You gotta have, 'cos #1, 2, and at least 3 as well, is in that song...

  • DISTERBED SHOULD HAVE BEEN HIGHER AND SO SHOULD PANTERA ! AFTER THE FIRST 2 IT GOT A BIT PUSSY I MEEN THE DOORS IN A MIX WITH THE MIGHTY PANTERA ! THE WHO AT NO 1 ? YEH THE GUY HAS A GOOD VOICE BUT STILL !

  • Don't forget Another Brick in the Wall Part 2, The Roger scream is there too, but everyone knows that! XP

  • Awesome list. I'm not a big metal fan but I couldn't help but admire some of those screams. Awesome choice for number 1 by the way. I think you should listen to Steven Tyler in "Dream On"

  • roger water's run like hell scream is the best!!!!! youtube it, and it's the live one

  • about number 2,bruce said that he managed only once is studio to do that scream because he was pissed of by a producer, and they've caught it on tape by accident, they were still recording and they didn't soupouse to,bruce also said that he never could make it sound the same as in the studio

  • robert waters scream is insane, ive never ever heard something that evil! But Robert Plant is the best, listen to him singing live in the early days. He accualy hit a C#6 onse, its o youtube also but i cant remember where.

  • For having Roger Daltrey at number 1, this video is perfect.

  • Good video and list. The only thing I can think to say is maybe do one that includes Ian Gillan's screams, Candy Horizon is great for a studio one and the one at 8:10 in strange kind of woman - made in Japan. Great list though. Loved the Daltry one.

  • @MontgomeryWinchester have you ever heard Child In Time?

That song sent him straight to the hospital after he performed it live when he was 29!!

  • @THESURFINALIEN Yes, its one of my favourite songs of all time. I must have forgot to put it in, he goes higher than Strange Kind of Woman in that. Very very good song and I think that scream would top any list. Thanks for pointing it out to me though. Must have missed it, how thats possible, I don't know.

  • bruce might not hit A5, but he can still do the scream live, which is amazing since it goes for so long.

    Great list, great commentary!

  • The not by robert plant A5, is the highest note he ever hit in studio. If you go look up King Of High G, you can see how Plant basically owns this entire list. Great list though, and great singers!

  • If you like this, then check out freakin' Michael Matijevic of Steelheart! He has like the highest screams ever. check out: watch?v=fN6mB_XV2Lc

  • Also... Where is Child in Time by Deep Purple (can't believe I can't remember the singer). Amazing performance throughout the whole song

  • ian gilan

  • Very good list! Needs the beginning of Dissident Aggressor though by Halford! And most likely Victim of Changes live on the album Unleashed in the East

  • The commentary made it pretty funny. You have some good taste in rock/metal.

  • Awesome list Great choices, However I would put the Metal God Rob Halford at#1

  • The reason that Rob Halford and Bruce Dickinson are where they are, is because of live versions, which tend to be considerably less impressive than in studio. It's the same reason why cowboys from hell is low on the list; because Phil Anselmo doesn't do it live.

This is opposed to entries like Roger Waters and Jim Morrison who always make impressive live recordings.

  • @ZachValkyrie what about robert plant, hes much better live. he reaches C6, E6 and F6 live, its seriously insane!

  • @ZachValkyrie Depends on what era you are referring to. Obviously, Halford can't sing Painkiller very well now, but in 1991 he sang it pretty well. Or how about the 1986 Dallas concert, and Unleashed In the East? I actually think Halford was a very impressive live singer when he was a bit younger.

  • axl rose is sick

  • MATT BARLOW is fuckin MISSING !!

  • I'm working on an expanded list.

  • WHERE'S STEVEN TYLER!?

  • @Musipan94 he can do what the 1st dude did in his sleep!!

  • Great but!!!!Bruce Dickinson must be at no.1

  • if ya listen to the studio version of wont get fooled agin, you can actually notice thats its louder and cleaner than the live one that shows up thereif you watch that whos show yall see that was roger was almost gone for the many screams he made over the show(thats why he has no voice anymore)and he had almost no voice when he made that screm so he took a long breath pushed the air off, it means screamed the shit otta his voice, had no voie to sing meet the new boss same as the old boss inda end

  • please could someone agree with me that number 3 is not a sound effect , if we're talkin about welcome to the jungle you need to watch it live and you'll see his range back in the day and also theres an awsome scream in paradise city i think

  • Yeah I've seen it live, it's definitely not a sound effect. That guy has freakin pterodactyl voices.

  • Where the hell is Joey Belladonna?

  • u should check out Bruce Dickinson's 1981 Wrathchild version, the scream is fucking hillarious

  • Number 3 is a sound effect

  • It sure sounds like it, doesn't it? But nope, that's all Roger Waters!

  • @Paul5028 poof?

  • some of these scared me, i loved the fact tht the who was #1

  • rly? Which ones were scary?

personally, I think Careful With That Axe Eugene is the most terrifying one...
