The first time I heard this song, Gale Storm was singing it on "Oh, Susanna." It has since been done by Jim Reeves, and his version is equally good. May they both rest in peace; I miss them both.
I loved "My LIttle Margie" with Gale Storm, and I loved her singing. She was just beautiful, in every sense of the word. What a loss that she is no longer with us.
What a great talent in the Hollywood years of the 1950s - she had no equal, then or now. For we baby boomers, she was one of the best. She passed away in 2010, and will be forever missed, and remembered.
I keep hearing this song over and over in my head after I heard it once and cant forget it. At all times of the day and in my dreams . I fell in love with it and found myself humming it in my spare time and work.
I remember this episode of the Gale Storm Show from when I was a kid. I must have been around 7 years old and I heard this song and loved it. Thanks for bringing back.
Thanks for the memories, and yes, I agree with Everhard, Jim Reeves had a superb version also. But, everything Jim did was absolutely fabulous! What a wonderful walk down memory lane, of years ago!!
Her recordings consisted largely of quick covers of promising new records by other artists. Gale's rare talent was she could take any song and make it better than it had been to that point. I love the Bonnie Guitar original of "Dark Moon," also on Dot Records, but Gale brings the song to a both deeper and higher level. She did that a lot!
Oh, and by the way, I am probably her youngest fan on the planet (inner squee!!) My Little Margie was my medicine back when it was broadcasted for a transient spell on I's (now Ion, a national network) direct feed cable network as the channel (formerly Pax) underwent permanent developments. It was my "guilty pleasure" that I would wake up at 5:30 AM Sat. & Sun. to watch. Gale beats Lucy in my book any day!! She was terribly underrated... RIP Margie :(
I just have to say, I'm thoroughly impressed by this Oh! Susanna footage released by Gale's website, being that, young as I am, I've never has the pleasure to view this old gem in the public domain. I had, through the luck of Google, come across an episode on a rare video website (don't know what became of it after 2 yrs), but the picture quality of the episode was poor in contrast with this. Gee, this show may never be released on dvd now that Gale's passed on:( Kudos for this find!
And Gale's great friend and co-star Zasu Pitts in the deck chair. Gale was a true sweetheart both on and off screen -- and remained that way all her life (despite hardships). I'm glad she andI got to exchange a few heartfelt e-mail mesages in the years just prior to her passing. "The Gale Storm Show" a/k/a "Oh Susanna" was the very last hit TV series shot at the Hal Roach Studios --where Ms. Pitts had worked with Thelma Todd, Pat Kelton and others in the '20s and '30s.
She was a wonderful comic actress, one of the real major talents of television's early years. I grew up on reruns of this great show; thanks for sharing this clip.

Wow --- what perfect poise it took to do that scene as gracefully as she did --- and Craig Stevens was wonderful too. Beautifully done.

About two years ago I emailed Gale Storm (I never met her) to tell her about a video on YouTube where she appeared for just a few seconds.
Her reply to me was very kind.
Back then there were very few Gale Storm YouTube videos. I think she would be astonished to see all these videos.

Terrific singer, terrific comedian, Gale was the television equivalent of the movie's Doris Day in the 1950's.
Thanks for the posting. I wish they would release the whole series on DVD along with "My Little Margie."
