  • old school

  • @SoldierKnowsBest What's up youngin'? lol You look so damn young here man.

  • @kiimyxo No stupid listen to what he says about the wifi router

  • Like If You're Watching This In 2012 Or 2013

  • does it backup data on pc's too?

  • Waiting for my 3TB in the mail. Hopefully tomorrow! :D

  • the only thing preventing me getting one is the price :(

  • @hpsaucelovesyourmom I got the refurbished 1 tb for 210.

  • just got the 2tb version and loving it...easy to use and practically sets a new network up itself.

  • wait im so confused, a time capsule can be used as a wifi router :O?

so you can take it with you in a car or at a park and have access to the internet on your laptop or any other device?!?!?!?!?!

  • @XxGenociidalxX he still is lol

  • Did he used to be a real soldier?

  • can it work on windows ???

    please somebody answer me...: )

  • @azhari142muse yea im sure the wifi part works.. but the hard disk part, not so sure... you might have to partition it or something, since both the OS save and write in different languages...

  • @azhari142muse For windows, it works like a network hardrive and you have to do the backups manually but yeah, it works.

  • In soviet Russia, Time capsule....Apple, Ok in soviet Russia jokes belong elsewhere...

  • Can this be used as JUST a backup device, and have nothing whatsoever to do with my router / modem ?

  • Can you use it as a sort of motherstation for al your files. So that every Mac or iPone/Ipod connected to your time capsule can use those files stored on the time capsule.

Like for instance, if im sitting on my couch with my iphone or macbook (connected to that time capsule) can i use the files stored on my time capsule to stream to the apple tv to my HD screen?

Long question and i hope you understand?

  • cool video man. thanks

  • rolf thats nothing else than a normal NAS...

  • $500!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 15 months later...

I would buy one if it's fail rate wasn't that high.

  • I record Hd gameplay of video games and post video, Soldier do you recommend getting this to send over gameplays ? Is it easy and quick and worth it, thanks.

  • Not much of a review.

    More like a ad.

What about all the problems reported by people ?

  • its kinda nice how apple thinks of the little thing like searching day by day i think thats awsome

  • is there away i can download the information from the hd when im not at home and i need a file? You know, it would be really nice to have that feature especially with all these low capacity ssd out there where you cant always take every thing with you all the time.

  • please give this alot of likes.... The time capsule CAN be an external hard drive too, you just have to format it which takes like 20 seconds to do

  • I heard it will die after 18 months, is that true??? thanks

  • @philcanatsey Same.

  • Can I install snow leopard on the time capsule?

  • can the time capsule take the place of an external hard drive?

  • Just ordered one. hope it solves my wifi issues.

  • First, like many of his videos and the way you explained, thanks for that! I am Brazilian and I started the Mac world with the iphone. Today using mac book pro and bought a TC. My doubt is: my internet is via modem and use linksys. Can I connect the linksys to TC? That would diminish the power of the TC? The settings are the same?

    Sorry my bad English ...

    thanks

    teresa

  • can i use this as a wireless Hard drive? with out it need to back up my files?

  • Can this be used just as a wireless hard drive?

  • could you use a netgear with a macbook pro?

  • @K6E6 yes, any router brand will work

  • @K6E6 yes

  • does it give strong internet for gaming

  • can it back up pc also

  • yes it can backup pc's awell but it dosen't come with software to back up the pc, so you have to use your own pc backing up software. I have comcast and I use their Norton anti virus/ backup software that comes included with my cable service.

  • Actually now that i think of it, windows 7 has back up built in, so all you have to do is tell it to backup onto the Time Capsule HDD.

  • Oh wait... apparently this doesn't work because "A system image cannot be saved on non-NTFS formatted backup destinations" so scratch that, ur going to have to use backup software like Norton Backup anyway. :(

  • @soldierknowsbest is it still working for you? is it reliable? do you recommend it?

same questions to anyone else that has a times capsule

  • Can you use it just as a regular external hardrive? Drag and drop stuff in there?

  • ALOT of people say that the Time Capsule is terrible, apparently it gets so hot you can't even touch it and that it totally stops after about 18 months.

  • My time capsule is taking forever to back up the first time (only has to back up 150mb and it has only done 50 in 5 hours). It has been backing up for like 5 hours and i have to take a break every hour or so because it gets really hot (almost to hot to touch). Is this normal?

  • now way exchange it! before it burns your house down

  • it won't back up for shit

  • can you use the time capsule as a HD ? instead of like backing what you already have on your mac i just wanna use the extra space on the time capsule :)

  • @BRANAVAA yeah, i think you can, don't take my word for it though :-)

  • yup

  • @BRANAVAA yes you can ;-)

  • @BRANAVAA

    Yes you can.

  • @BRANAVAA i think you can. and backing up your data and having a hard drive are practically the same thing. just delete everything you wanna keep. ps. hard drive is hdd not hd

  • @BRANAVAA sure can :)

  • quick question: can i use this as a network media hub where all the computers and macs on my network can access files, videos, songs etc. HELP PLEASE!!!

  • Good video mate :)

  • Do you like mint sauce?

  • actually i am really pissed at the time capsule. 2 time capsules died on me. one after 2 moths and i though "oh, it died, it happens, i was unlucky", whatever. than i bought another time capsule. and that died as well...

Than i found out that time capsules tend to die... after like 18 months. But mine just passed so quick. I hope it hurt... :))

  • well, I was talking to the guy above you, but if you have a mac the added funtionality of time capsule is nice. its more than just file storage.

though i probably wouldnt have bought one either if my wireless router hadnt died right before i bought my macbook pro, so i figured two in one

  • you cant use time maching with it from a PC, but it can still be used a wifi router and you can store files on it. but it wont autoback up or have the functionality that it has with leopard.

if you dont have a mac youd be better off buying a mobile hard drive

  • dude does a time capsule only work for apple computers?

  • Very good review, clear and well spoken. Thanks

  • macs probably get better signal because macs support 802.11n technology as opposed to most computers on the market

  • Well, I am getting a Time Capsule 1TB and my computer supports 802.11n, and I use a PC so it means the internet will be the same.

  • You sound exactly like an apple advertisement

  • hahahahahah wtf???????????!!!!!! XD

  • You have good taste

  • Hey Man,

Great Videos. Nice Mic. Question: Can I use the hard drive portion of the Time Capsule for storage in instead of for Time Machine ? You know, for Videos, Music & Pictures. I also have an Apple TV. Details please! Thanks in advance. I too believe most apple Wireless has a stronger Signal than a typical D-Link or Belkin.

    Dino

  • yup, you can just use it as an external hard drive if you want

  • Do you think i can put my iTunes files on Time Capsule & it would stream wirelessly with my Apple TV with no wireless issues ?

  • sorry for the duplicate post!

  • Great video!

  • Great review.

  • do u thank they will make a imac with LED backlite? the imacs tend to heat up.

  • Yes. WWDC they are most likely going to announce that ALL their Displays will be LED backlite. That is if the rumors are true ;-) oLED soon?

  • Thanks for the review. So many people have a "how to" but no follow up to the product. This very video has convinced me to finally buy one today. Thanks again!

  • i bet it has more power in the signal plus the dual signal is probably what makes it the better modem choice

  • Thanks, great info!

  • What Microphone is that?!?!??!?

  • Samson C03U Mic

  • Is it possible to configure Time Capsule so it overwrites the previous backups?

  • shut up dude. why watch the videos if you hate him?

    keep it up mark :)

  • I have the 1Tb Time Capsule...I love it.

  • 3:30

  • 500 bucks you spend and never think about again

  • saying thats a bad thing.

  • sdfsdfsdfsdf

  • Lots of people are asking this question; the answer is that you can use it as a wireless hard drive, but you can not use Time Machine with windows. So that means no automatic seamless backups.

  • STVSLA:

    YOU ARE STUPID.

  • Is your getting transfered wireless from your computers to your Time Capsules?

I guess it does, but I wondered how fast? How many mb/s?

  • great review...keep it up

  • When are you planning to release your podcasts? I'm looking forwards to it.

  • I already have it and I love it. thanks for posting this.

  • Good vid, but can you comment on the old & newer versions of the TC. I got the older single band router and I'm so upset that it doesn't have the dual band that allows for faster speeds. Maybe a comparison from new to old features? Thanks!

  • Hey CabalaCicero & stvsla, I heard there's a cure for your condition. It's called swine flu.

  • what's wrong with Arkansas?

  • maybe its working faster because it has 802.11 n?

  • Suggestion: room/office tour?

  • Nice Nice.. I love your gear~

  • does it work with window

  • The Time Machine function does not work with Windows, but you can use it as a wireless hard drive. There are, however, cheaper alternatives if that is all you are going to use it for.

  • Haha yeah if I had the money. I'm 13 so obviously no source of income. Well not one that pays enough to buy a $1200 iMac or $1000 MacBook at least ;).

  • I got a 1TB for my birthday, and tried to migrate from one install of Leopard to another (wanted to reinstall). I keep getting an error when trying to restore to the TC DMG that's saved on there... shame... going to try again

  • I have the same exact time capsule as you and i have a macbook, windows laptop, netbook, windows desktop, 2 iphones, xbox 360, and printer all hooked up to it and it is still blazing fast!

  • can´t understand how 500GB is enough for 2 computers!? I realy can´t make the math. don´t you save anything? you must have alot of HD movies if you have an HD camera? Music? explane plz

  • You think 500 GB is small? Try having a 37.5 GB hard drive and that's all the memory you get. Now that sucks.

  • do not get time capsule..im on my third and its shit

  • Why is it shit? What's happened to yours?

Mine played up once and told me I needed to reformat. Which I have yet to do.

  • i already had the airport express and dont really need the wirless functionality for back up.. i bought an external hard drive for time machine..

  • My time capsule worked great until yesterday when I installed 10.5.7. Now all it does is says "preparing backup". Has anyone else had this problem?

  • yea i doubled check and its really cheap for what you get

I want to get the router only though. $180

  • Great Review. I think I might get one soon.

  • use your other intro video

  • ha!!then i wouldn't like 2 see u try nd set up a normal router....lol... Well its really easy on a mac. do u have a Mac or PC?

  • you should put up a green screen like jon4lakers did I think that would look good in your videos also

  • yeah

  • You can change your signal range with other firmwares

    IE DDWRT

  • Awsome dude, just what I wanted to hear. I'm looking for a Wireless N router for my Macbook but I need it to be G also for my other devices. Only thing is that this probably cost a fortune.

  • read the box....PC + Mac

  • because its a wifi base station, if you can get the wifi to work.

  • does it work well with a windows machine too?

  • Only as a wireless hard drive. Apple haven't made Time Machine compatible with windows.

  • two problems with that:

    1. Who's paying for it?

    2. If you answered that you will pay for it in number 1, why are you living with your mom?

  • i just would not know if it is worth the money

  • Is it just me or are his recent HD videos looking a little "grainy"?

  • Nope

  • They look grainy because he upconverts video made on his iSight (the iSight is a standard 1.3 MP webcam) to HD quality in iMovie. He does, however, also have a Canon HD Camera, but most of his YouTube videos are done on the iSight.

  • he might be recording to a 7MBps

  • very grainy for me too.

  • Imagine that.. an Apple product working the way it's supposed to.

  • nice, old intro is back and revamped!

  • Thats cool, I want one =D

  • good review man thats so nice that it does it automatically everything u do on the computer u know its gonna be safe later on

  • Love the old skool intro

  • ok maybe I was a little bit brash. bit of a silly comment none the less.

  • Nice review MW.

  • watson is his last....whats the first name?

  • I htink it's Mark ?

  • nice Review

  • doesnt make wifi faster when used with a Mac. Thats garbage.

  • He's probably talking about the fact that Time Capsule uses 802.11n is why it's faster.

  • nice stuff SKB the time cap is money & on a different note i think the mic you have now is sweeet...makes it look more like a talk show or something lol....anyways good stuff man

  • I been looking at time capsule for awhile now but the reviews are not that great. You seem to like it, perhaps I need to take another look. Great review, Mark. What's your take on some of the new apps. Slang Player...

  • Apple Time Capsule ??? now ??? hmmmm okay

  • Can you connect a HDD to the airport extreme/express? Would it not be a better option to separate the components to kind of future proof yourself?

  • where do you get the money for ALL this?!!!

  • ummmm....his job!!

  • Thats a secret

  • You're lucky you got a good version Mark, I've had 2 within 2 months and they've both packed up.

  • I have a 1 Terabyte MyBook. Works great, though it's not wireless, it's USB. I saved about $500 lol but Time Capsule looks really cool too

  • great video soldier, very informative as always.

  • Great review!

  • Thanks, SKB. I've been wondering how these are. I am trying to decide between the time capsule and the WD my book.

  • Comment removed

  • I was just thinking about getting one of these. there must be a cheaper way of achieving the same thing.

  • Sweet
