Thanks so much for your informative series of videos. I'm a prefessional violinist, and I recently bought an accordion off Ebay. When it arrived from the USA the bass buttons had ended up all over the place. From your video I was confident enough to take it to bits and aside from a few reed niggles I now have a working accordion.
i enjoy watching your video's. nice tempo and easy listening. i works well for me, when you make the link with a piano, that's where 'i come from'. hope to see for of that. :)
These are great video! BTW, I just bought a compact accordion and it has skinny keys. I have thin fingers but I still can't get them between the black keys. Is this wrong accordion for me or do I just need to learn the proper technique? The accordion is an old Lira that looks '40ish and is beautiful (looks nearly mint condition) so I'd hate to give it up. Please advise, thanks!
I've got a 48 button, I manage to work Yann Tiersens songs fine. He tends to focus on the major and minor chords quite a bit, so you at least want those, so the smallest you could do is a 24 button, but make sure it has Minor and Major buttons otherwise your stuffed :P Anything past 24 is good, anything past a 48 is just a uneeded handful really :P
That is just a quick bit of omm-pah, to play your time is 3/4, and the pattern is simple, root-major-major, root-major-major, so C-Cmajor-Cmajor, and on with any combination. You can also vary this to great affect with root-major-root. For example, C-Cmajor-F-Cmajor-C. Give it a go, bit fun and and easy way to ease in to Bavarian/Slavic style polka. Or, play 4/4 and do Root-major-major-major and you have a waltz. Cheers, I am rather new to accord. so I hope I have been more help than confusion.
i bought a small squeeze box for 30 bucks and got me hooked, i bought a german Hohner from a music store just the other day, its from WORLD WAR 2 O_O 400 bucks :D

What type of accordion would I get if I was interested in playing Flogging Molly or Yann Tiersen type of songs.

@windblows33 The Toastmasters call those "verbal crutches". Public speaking is a skill that most of us have to learn.

@salomslot I bought one for £140, which is fairly cheep for a proper accordion. They can go up to about £50000 or more.
