Have you had any issues with the magnifier flipping back to its upward position? For instance if you were running with your rifle, holding it sideways (for whatever reason), or making sharp movements.
Do you think 2 moa dots inside the ring would be a little cluttered? Unmagnified of course. I'm really having a hard time choosing between 1 or 2 dots.
@nkprives It sure looks like it to me. And he has an obviously postban pmag, and I doubt that rifle is AWB compliant. Although no one has ever been arrested just for violating the AWB in NYS.
@TheRealBozz With some research I'm sure you'll discover the 5.56 does not pass through more than 1 or 2 walls. As you continue to make discoveries, you'll also find out 00 buckshot will easily penetrate several walls (2x4 and sheetrock construction) making it MORE dangerous as a home defense weapon. Do your own research, discovery now can prevent serious grief later.
@TheRealBozz My experiance is based on real world experiance not internet speculation. I'm all for everyone arming themselves and defending themselves and their families. If a shotgun works for you and you are satisfied with the ballistics then more power to you. I just encourage everyone to test their beliefs and make sure they can depend on outcomes they expect. I'm not here to argue, just want to stimulate rational thought and discussion.
In my oppinion an AR isnt a 'get out of my house' gun. Its a 'get out of my yard' gun. My shotgun is a 'get out of my house' gun. But to each their own.
Why the hell would you need an AR for home defense? Why would you spend thousands of dollars on something that will probably not even happen, and then, why not buy a handgun or a shotgun or even a PDW?
You cannot predict the future so how can you say "probably not gonna happen?" A handgun is a last resort. If I can get to my AK-47, that's what you're getting shot with. If not, I grab what's closest. Either way, you're dead. It's people like you with your "it's never gonna happen" mentality that die first.
You do realize people just like firearms right? Just like cars people just like em. I own 2 AR's a sig 516 ps and a di m400 and I just picked up a H&K SL8-6 for a G36 conversion. Im also thinking of getting the newer sig 556's. Point is dude they are not just for home defense etc. They are also just damn fun to shoot. For many of us it's a hobby and for some even a job.
@jozeaphe Never, I always had it in me, I shot my first round with a big ass 9mm Czechoslovakian I can't remember it's type, 16 rounds in the clip + 1 in the chamber, I was 11 years old, the target was a rock on ground (hard target) with the size of a foot-ball ball, the distance was around 15 meters, but I still managed to hit my target and stand still, even though I was standing in a shallow river with soft round stones under my feet. Point is, I always had it in me to handle weapons.
@jozeaphe And aged 0-10? And you never saw this man's accuracy. I'm sure if he picked up the target, it would be all dead center. Even when you shot your 9mm, you were a civilian. Just because you shot a weapon at 11, doesn't mean you're better than every other gun enthusiast.
@Puggy8D I'm talking about the period starting from 11 years old, since that's when I had my first chance to shoot a gun, I can't speak about 0-10 years old because I never tried to shoot then can I? And I don't need to see the man's "grouping" (not accuracy) to judge him, I can tell by the way he's holding the rifle and the way it bounces off his shoulder that he is not applying the principles of marksmanship, I;m an infantry officer, meaning I'm a qualified trainer and range supervisor.
I love my SIG556. You might want to re-consider the way you grip your VFG for better handling and installing an efficient compensator similar to a PWS-FSC556 to improve on your follow up shots.
Check my channel to see my SIG556 (classic) in action.
@Vectar84, because although unlikely, optics do fail. and you want some form of back up iron sights so that you can still aim. hence the creation of flip up BUIS so they dont get in the way when you dont need them.
@Vectar84 because although unlikely, optics do fail. and you want some back up irons so that you can still aim. but in this context, the front iron is lower than the Eotech so it doesnt get in the way, and frankly it looks better with it on IMO.
@SuperLuigi707 Well i got a aimpoint red dot without a magnifier i can shoot grape fruit at 100 meters standing up with quick target aquisition. with a 3x its like shooting grapefruit at 300 meters with quick target aquisition . It all depends on what you want to do. Scopes are cheaper but takes longer to acquire a target in a real combat scenario seconds can cost you your life.
When someone breaks into your house in the middle of the night, you want to make sure you shoot the burglar and not a family member... Easiest way to avoid this situation is a flashlight? Reason enough?
@albnyblows Is your house so big that you can do a decent CQB with an AR? Even with the stock broken down, they're still huge. I know plenty of guys that claim that a Mossberg 500 is the GREATEST Home Defense weapon ever but when it comes down to it, turning a corner with anything longer than a full sized pistol is taking your life in your hands...literally. I'm not discounting the Sig. I love'em but for Home Defense, go for something shorter than 12" overall. IMHO.
@ShizzleHappens With that said, I have a Laser/Light combo on my XD45 and it was the best mod I ever made. If I shoot one of my kids accidentally because I couldn't see them, the next round is mine, no question. Lights are a must.
lots of people use AR's for home defense including me. And if you use an AR then a flashlight is almost a must have just in case. Just because the system doesnt work for you doesnt mean it cant work for everyone else.
@4Hshooter its probably better to install motion sensor lights. The lights go on when someone walks into the room. that alone would probably make the criminal flee. they are not that expensive to buy anymore. and install one on your front and back yard also.
@4Hshooter why do alot of people use ARs for home defense...? wouldn't over penetration be a problem with the 5.56? plus with the long barrel, wouldn't it be unwieldy in most home defense situation?
@aaron4820 Not really. the .223 is not a good penetrator. It breaks apart as soon as it hits something (as such a close range and high velocity) and when shouldered, its not all that much longer than a pistol being held out in front of you. My go to home defense gun is a rifle. 30 rounds of rock and roll, the ability to penetrate a vest, and I can easily mount a light or red dot sight on it. A hit from a .223 at close range is pretty nasty.
@albnyblows By the way, which 556 is this? I've been looking at getting one but I'm torn between the SWAT and the DMR. It's a tough call. Weight vs. Accuracy.
@K1ndaB0red hell ya I got an STG 556 as my weapon of choice for home defence. It was designed for close quater combat and has plenty of stopping power. Mine is only semi automatic tho. A criminal comes into my home and they sure won't go out unless it is in a body bag.
@albnyblows I had a cop ask me: "why do you have a flashlight on your home defense gun?". I just stared at him and said, "um because its dark in my house at night???".......
I agree to an extent. I mean, if someone broke into my home they'd probably be the only ones walkin' around and a flashlight would give my own position away... I don't know, personal preference I suppose.
@albnyblows Horrible reason. You should KNOW your house better than any burglar or anyone breaking in. No house, no place..even in space will be dark enough that you could not make out and acquire a target..no way. Unless you're blind or drunk. Owning a firearm is not just for show..you should train with it and a few times a month do some type of drill IN THE DARK at home just for scenarios like these. It's your responsibility.
@albnyblows you seriously would go after a burglar with an assault rifle in your own house? i mean come on, i know american lifestyle but this is just ridiculous!
If you have a good flashlight it could disorient and blind a home invader in the middle of the night. Not to mention some come with a strobe feature that gets you really disoriented.
A flashlight is the first line of defense. Often times the criminal will give up with a bright flashlight. It will confuse night adapted eyes, and often temperarly blind a perp. albnyblows has a very bright 700 lumen light on his, which is just und $200. I have a surefire m900a on mine, which cost about the same as the gun itself.
@mjlmz11 most bad things happen at night, or with limited light. Bad things like to stay in the dark. Thats why a powerful and well made light is needed.
@mjlmz11 SO I WON'T KILL YOU, WHAT IF YOU WANDERING MY HOUSE IN THE DARK AND I WAS ARMED WITH A ASSAULT RIFLE WITHOUT A FLASHLIGHT? I WOULD BE SPRAYING ALL OVER YOUR DEAD BODIES.
@mjlmz11 also, half of the time you've been alive it has been night time. So, essentially 50% of the time you would need a flashlight to be able to use the rifle, in defensive/hunting needs.
@mjlmz11 did you type this from a leaning deficiency classroom, Most robberys occur in night so having a flashlight would help you see your bad guy and also disorient him with the bright light.
