  • Can you list the 13 different kinds of stories so I can AVOID most of them

  • write, write, write... read, read, read... watch movies?? awesome

  • I have such a good idea for a movie. I feel like I know the characters and the plot is so good. I just wish so much I was educated on how to write my idea so I could maybe try and get people to read it.

  • @KellyK0028 download celtex. it's a free screenwriting software. i love it. i use it for my screenplays.

  • Can I get those 13 different types of movie thing?

  • Its funny how all these 'expertvillage' videos have a bunch of nobody's teaching us something they know nothing about...

  • Thank you very much. I don't know who is interested, but I am currently writing a Clerks-like movie about what the Quick Stop and RST are like now. I will be playing, "Silent Rob". Oh and if anyone is wondering about copyright issues with View Askew it is just a movie for family and friends.

  • pause at 0:53 ha his face is funny

  • Just for giving me the option of skipping I will look at your little commercial. :(

  • You can use MS word 2007 for writing the screen play. But, should use screen play style template provided by Microsoft itself. This style template will take care of formatting.

  • Can you make a video showing how to write a screenplay using Microsoft Word 2007?

  • @Drega900 You could type a screenplay on Microsoft Word 2007 but the time fixing the formatting is not worth it. Purchase Final Draft, which is THE screenplay writing software that all screenplay writers from Hollywood use. But there's nothing wrong with using Microsoft Word 2007--just that the time correcting it and formatting it the CORRECT way will stress you out.

  • Thanks for the advice my friend!

  • does anyone know a site where I can submit my movies for feedback

  • It can only bring that idea to the script? Or i must wite the whole script? Please ANSWER ME thanks... IM JUST BEGINNER...

  • Is anyone here on Circalit? it's a social network for scree writers, may be useful for some of you...

  • I've been slowly working on this screenplay based on an idea I'd come up with while living with friends. There isn't anything else out there like it, at least that I've seen, hopefully I can finish it in the near future.

  • honestly the best way to go big right form the start is to remake something. not just re-write a movi but even a book i mean look at twilight just find an excellent book which is popular among teens 12-20 and contact the author get there conesnt to re-write or make it into a movie if you will and then go on WGA website find the agency list send it out and bam your golden

  • Hi Tony,

I've written my first feature-horror-screenplay and was wondering if you knew of any horror producing companies that are willing to read unsolicited screenplays.

    Thanks

  • What is the lowest a producer will pay for a newly written first screenplay with a moderate budget say less than $30,000?

  • What is your definition of story ?

  • Why is the most important part of the script the story?

This is vague. Do you have a concrete idea for why the more important part is a story?

  • The story is the most important element of a screenplay because if there's no story to tell, there's no story. Every story must have a main conflict. The main character's conflict (external&internal).

  • @seuMadrugaaaa exactly! ya i remember learning bout all the different external conflicts in english class (for writing stories) and i just use that format when writing screen plays

  • I must say I disagree with this formula you talk about. Fitting your ideas over a preconceived out line or frame work. Yes most films follow those 13 or so story structures but why not encourage people to break out of those barriers that Hollywood has built up. Putting your own spin on something isn't enough. I think this video gives people the wrong idea. Why not make Art instead of cookie cutter schlock that's just like everything else in theaters. Movies have become so soulless. Sad.

  • I believe what he's trying to say, is that it's inevitable that whatever story one invents; it will likely fall into on of the 13 or so categories. I would agree with an aspect of what you are saying; yes one should strive to break the mould and do something original. Yes, Hollywood do churn out a lot of formulaic pap; but don't kid yourself into thinking you will come up with a genuinely original story. No matter how obscure, all stories reduce down to one of the archetypal fairy-tales.

  • u have a list for those 13 or so stories?

  • I'd love to hear those as well!

  • yea

  • I already have a 90 minute chick flick screenplay down on paper. all I need is for someone to BUY IT.

    THANKS

    BT

  • @btwall60 hey man im pretty young and stuff...how do you get ur screenplay out there..do you like take it to a producer or something?

  • im writng a script (duh or else why would i be watching this) and i need to know how do a own it so if i show people they wont steal it.

  • Get a copyright for it.

  • Go to the Library of congress website type that in he search engine " Library Congress" the office is out of Washington Dc its like 30-45 dollars to copyright it and call the office and tell them what you trying to do

  • What Screen Writing Software is that?

  • Celtx its completely free.

  • some times i just donw want my dialog to corny and by the way im 15 is it to early to start writting my own screen plays?

  • its definetly not early to start writing screenplays. i started writing screenplays since i was 13 and now im pretty descent at it. keep on doing it and youll get better.

  • NO WAY MAN!!GO FOR IT!!

  • No, it's not too early. I started when I was 13. I just never done anything with them.

  • I see... I've been running into some problems recently. As far as wrting cuts and jumps cuts into the screenplay. I perfer to use as few as possible and let the INT and EXT guide the reader between scenes. You think putting direction like cut to, to fade to and disolve to is neccassary in the screenplay??? All that camera direction stuff should be included in the shooting script I thought

  • only put them in if IT IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY to the plot or for the scene or the certain effect you would like it to have. you don't want to leave nothing for the director and editor to work with, or you may have quite a hard time trying to sell it.

  • omg why does this dude have lke 4 cpu's..thats tight! ur a crazy networker guy..

  • When writing dialouge. If your writing for a character with an accent, do you have to write the accent in under the characters name when the they are introduced just at the beginning? or every time you write dialouge for them throughout the whole story?

  • yea im mtrying to make a movie low budget short film im doing pretty much everthing except the acting and music any tips for screen play write or special effects ? plz comment back

  • to tell you the truth most good actors com from plays so you should check some plays out and as far as speciall efects it depends the mood of your story if your doing a horror movie what i suggest that you let the viewrs imagine whats happening like in jaws or scarface those movies used alot of that.

  • well its hard to explain what its about... but when i am done with the movie (pretty soon) you can see it

  • thanks, now i can continue my horror film :~^)

  • what's your horror film about?

    :P

  • Do you mind me asking what it's about?

  • well its hard to explain but its like a homemade silent hill movie... its going to be my first movie. (i need to go and remake the script):

  • @zombie2infection i love silent hill, check out my films i use ideas from the movie in my horror shorts

  • ugh. i hate videos like this. i HATE THEM.

    LOOOK.

just cause you type out structure and words, does not mean you've written anything.

  • what exactly are the 13 types of stories?

  • Hey. I have just begun a script using Celtx. But I can't save it. What do I do?? Help please.

  • I'd love to know that!

  • Wow then the advice was good so I can continue on writing and doing my comedy

  • Hey. I have just begun a script using Celtx. But I can't save it. What do I do?? Help please.

  • File - Save. Have I missed something?

  • then it said "can't save file bla bla bla..."

    but it works now

  • kk....

  • Just curious, have you made a video yet on the 13 basic stories? If you have I would be glad to see it.

  • wow this was really helpful.Thank you.

  • thanks good advice

  • thanks good advice

  • oohhh crap. over 78,850 videos!!!

  • That sounds kind of fishy when you said that it doesn't have to be 100 percent original. I thought copyrights would keep you from copying in any way period.

  • Nope, they don't. It's impossible to be %100 original.

  • he mean, there are very few real original stories left to tell. But there is always a different way to tell the same story. He didn't mean you can copy someone else's idea. You can't. But let's just say there is more than one love story in the world. Or action adventure, horror etc.... 100% Orginality in stories is nearly impossible.

  • i dont know if i can trust you...

  • yeah really.

  • What are the the 13 stories?

  • Thanks =)
