hey jim good for u! that's awesome. but now that u've put urself out there, i'm gonna be checkin up on ya! it's hard to staty consistent and we all fall short now and then, but i'll be with u every step of the way!
When I was a teen I took up running. I got up to ten miles a day in three months. I lost all the chubbiness and became lean and mean. I would think of doing it again, only back then I ran on sidewalks and totally wrecked my knees...
Hopefully, the surface you run on has a lot of give...
Hey Andy. Yeah I haven't run since I was in my late teen either. This track I run on has one of those ground up rubber padding surfaces on top of the asphalt so it's not as bad as just concrete or pavement. But, I do worry about the knees so I'll be careful. Good to see you today! -Jim
Nowadays I'm more worried about my heart :) If I were to take up running again, I doubt that I could get up to ten miles a day in three months again. Two miles would be enough to get me high... Yes, I remember those runners' highs...
You know me: I try to watch everything. Dropping by was my pleasure, Jim.
Thanks Dave. I have a little suction cup monopod designed for the car window and I mounted that to a round weighted, no slip thing that sits on top of the car dashboard. That piece is really designed for GPS devices. Anyway, the two together sit there securely on the dash and I don't have to worry about my heavier camcorder falling from the window and breaking. I had used just the suction cup part in the past and it works great for just a small point and shoot. Also a gorilla tripod works.
I think Gary inspired a lot of people. Thanks for the link and wish you luck on your journey. I pretty much need to start doing something now - I'll et you know if I end up joining you though - too chicken sh_t to commit yet :)
LMAO at that last bit Danny! I'm still working on it and adding just a little each week. If I can do it, Lord knows anyone can. LOL Good to see you. Thanks for watching. -Jim
I run two blocks a day to catch the bus, that's about all I have time for. :D But I desperately need to do something, I am gained a lot of weight in the last year.
Hey Jim....YOU CAN DO IT!! Yea! I wish you the best with this new endeavor, man. I've resolved to get healthier myself, and over the past several months, I've managed to lose close to 30 pounds. Let me tell you, the difference in the way I feel is amazing. I am using the "Small Step" method: changing just one thing at a time about my eating/exercise habits. For example, I cut out sodas & replaced them with water. It works! Slow and Sure through Small Steps.
Brian the knees have been my worry about jogging as well. I'm going to be careful not to over do it and will look into cycling as well. Thanks for watching! -Jim
Jim you will be my inspiration to start too. I would love to lose about forty pounds. I caught a cold last week so as soon as the Alkseltzer starts working I will start running.
Hey Ken. That's great. You'll have to keep me updated on your progress. Lord knows if I can do it, anyone can. LOL And, anakin184 said the same thing as he did it last year and lost 60 pounds. Of course I'm doing low cal and low fat also so it's no fun but should fall off pretty quick. Sorry to hear you've got a cold. Take care. -Jim
Hey Jim! I've got a suggestion if I may be so bold. Get a bike and ride the Silver Comet Trail! I did this recently and found it to be very enjoyable. Plus you can really ease into the whole exercise thing this way. I actually rode 17 miles the first time out... and didn't think I was going to die!
If you really want to do it...you can do it! :-) Always great to see you! Life can get in the way of the YT fun. I know I'm always on the "catch up" train...ha! *hugs*
Good luck Jim! You can do it! 2008 started with me weighing 260 lbs. By September of 08, I ran 4 or 5 5K races, one 10K race, and a 1/2 marathon in September, finishing at 2:07. If I can do it, so can you. My first day at the gym, I almost literally passed out on the treadmill. It was horrible. Day after day, I somehow did better and ended up where I'm at now! Thanks for the shout-out!!
Hi Gary. Thanks for watching and for the inspiration. Lots of us talk about big goals at the first of the year but you're one of the only people I know who really did it. Hopefully I'll get there by keeping after day after day. I'm still pretty pitiful out there but it gets better each day. Good to hear from you! -Jim
CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I commend you on your efforts and goals. Hopefully, I will someday involve myself in some sort of an organized regiment to inprove my physical condition. KEEP ON KEEPIN' ON!!!!!! Great to see you.
Great idea Jim! I also have to get out and shake my booty a lot! But in -20 wind chill, it will have to wait until the weather gets better. Thanks for the link and inspiration! Good luck to you!
Good luck to you Jim on running that marathon. I, myself hate running. I will almost do anything else but run! LOL You look great in HD, but you looked great in HQ too! LOL
Wow - sounds pretty inspiring - I favorited (if that's a word)this video and will check out the website. Perhaps it'll even inspire me - lord knows I need help!
I'm about 40 lbs heavier than I need to be also jim!
Thanks Beth. Right now I'm dreaming about that delicious looking chicken I just watched you cook. LOL Good to see you. Hope you have a wonderful week! -Jim
bnessel video encouraged me. I wish you luck! I started eating healthy and lost 6 pounds in 2 weeks so far. When I am down your way we will have to the track! again Good Luck Jim!!
Marc I'm guessing the smoking will the harder of the two. I'm not a smoker but I've always heard it's one of the toughest addictions to break. Good to see you my friend! -Jim
JIM! You don't have to diet OR exercise! Let me send you a bottle of my fermented fish eyeball elixir! I swear you will lose 10 pounds every 2 days! You could be at your goal weight in 4 days!
why does it make me nervous when everybody goes getting all healthy?
Awesome Jim for hanging in there. I had to work up to the first week of the walking schedule of the group I'm following. YAY for running a marathon! I'm exercising still!
Hey Jim..great to see you! Good for you taking the initative to do this for yourself. I have my own challenges that I need to begin to tackle - maybe you'll be my inspiration for that. Take care. -Doug
Congrats on the 1/2 mile run Jim!!! You're making progress. I've still not got my shoes, so I'm still behind you a bit.. BUT, my #1 change is still successful (you know what that is). It's been SO hard, but the changes I'm noticing are AMAZING! I can't wait to get the shoes (hopefully by month end), and start this part of my transformation! Heck, if enough of us do this maybe we could have a MarathonTube (where everyone has to do the run). *smile* I'm PROUD of you!! Keep it up!!
Thanks Angie and congrats on your progress! That's great. Hey a marathon tube might be fun but not for a long while or they would all run off and leave us. LOL -Jim

Running and walking?
That sounds too hard.

Actually, I think I'm in a similar situation as you, but I have yet to get to a place in my head to really attack it the way you have.
And "slowly but surely" is probably the healthiest way to do it. Too many of those trendy diets or exercise programs make unrealistic promises.
