The level of detail is absolutely incredible! The bomb bay doors open, you can see every single bomb, and this is an AI plane!?

Not only that but I saw a video where a He-111 was struck by gunfire and the bullets hit the pilot, actually killing him, and the rest of the crew bailed out, disappearing from their positions in the aircraft as they went. The pilot went down with his plane.

Stunning! Definitely going to pick this up when I get a better computer.

so, it looks like 109 shooting with minimum 60mm canon. It was not so freaky easy to shoot down plane like wllington. I have heard about qne wellington, against 6 ju88, and he win this battle. Unfortunatly, PC "simulators" are only like toys. But - if you have not what you love, you have to love this, what you have...

Anyone remember Knights of the Sky from the early 1990's, the first quite successful air war flight simulator, based on fighters and bombers and recce aircraft during World War One, 1914-1918?

The merging software between made-up to be made up to reality is amazing these days, where lines of shadows of colour is only needed to be put in, then micro-pixallated with mathematical fractal technology to produce above image. And it is still advancing quite fast. Soon you will not be able to tell between the two - real-life or a cartoon. And no need for much more powerful computing power - just production computing software to clunk through to produce merging images, to see on any PC today.

Great video. A friend of mine is an ex Wellington pilot, Wing Commander Ken Wallis, who crashed a few of these in his time. He hit a barrage balloon once and the cable sawed most of the way through the wing, and fuel lines. Still got it down though. Amazingly strong.

In WWII footage the bombs impact the ground randomly. In the game they hit in a straight line. They should work on bomb physics.

Can human players man the turrets on these bombers in multiplayer?

@sultros In general, you can switch positions on a multi-crew aircraft and gun a turret (as long as the difficulty settings allow it). Also, in multiplayer, you and your friends can crew an aircraft. Say, for example you and your friend want to fly a Bf-110. One can enter the pilot seat, and the other can enter the gunner/radio operator position. Gunner can help defend the aircraft and help with navigation and spotting while the pilot manages the engines and maneuvers for shots in combat.

@sultros To be honest, you need a real top of the line rig to play this game smoothly with max graphics. I'm talking a GTX 580 and one of the fastest core i7s. Still, it is much improved over the initial release state. Right now numbers are low, but you'll still find servers with lots of people in the afternoons EST. The main problem with the game is the poor GUI, in my opinion. You'll have to be patient and work through it until you figure it all out. It's worth it though.

@sultros However, let me warn you that at the current patch (as of late August '11) there are problems with the rear gunning (I've only checked it on the Bf-110). There doesn't appear to be a way to change the sensitivity and so swinging the gun requires huge sweeps of the mouse. Also, by default it is inverted and can't be changed. Once these are fixed however, gunning will be great fun. As it is now though, my friend and I have taken to flying two separate planes as wingmen until it is fixed.

Just a little nitpick. Planes don't dive head first when landing. The nose would be angled up pretty high, even untill it touches down.

@Arcon1337 Granted the approach angle is pretty steep on this video. Not all airplanes land like larger jets. These larger jets (ex. 737, a320, and some larger business jets) have leading edge flaps on the front of the wings. These kind of flaps enable jets to approach the runway with a higher angle of attack by changing the chord line of the wing. If you would like more information you should Wikipedia "aircraft flaps".

When the Brits claim they had no military answer to the invasion of Poland by Germany, they tend to convieniently forget that the Wellington bomber was already deployed to the RAF in 1939.

The Wellington bomber was the aircraft used in 1940 to bomb Berlin* as payback for the inadvertent bombing of London by a damaged Luftwaffe bomber.

No, in itself would not have stopped the combined Soviet-German invasion but as there were few divisions protecting the western front while Berlin was burning..
