Thanks DLinkTV! I'm glad you confirmed that since I have just come o realise that a dual band router is probably what I need. So, I need to do away with the powerline kit and get he router. I'm not happy with Virgin Media Business cos they have given me a "g" superhub, whereas with Residential I had a DLink "n" modem router. This was supposed to be an upgrade for me&yet I am getting slower wireless speeds. Then they are saying that they have to set up static ip addresses for £10/m to add a router!
@maltesemassive We are happy to help & keep us posted on the status of your situation. We love to hear from people. If you have any other questions, please ask. Good luck!
@DLinkTV Thanks. I have tried a powerline adapter which has a 2nd adapter which is wireless. Unfortunately, the speed still fluctuates because of all the wireless traffic/interference. All the channels are clogged up too. Do you know if the wireless extenders are any better? Honestly, where I live, watching streaming videos on a wireless network is a waste of time. There must be a way to overcome my problem without having to wire something to the computer!
@maltesemassive Try a dual band router or access point. It works on a different frequency than the common 2.4ghz that everyone uses. You need to make sure your wireless devices can connect to the 5ghz signal, but you will see a significant improvement.
Wireless extenders will have the same problem is not dual band.
You can PowerLine adapters in addition to a dual band access point; however, I D-Link does not make a "dual band" version wireless PowerLine adapter like DHP-w306av.
i got the 200 mbps kit + switch and it maxes out my 25mb/s cable steady, tbh i'm not even sure most of north america offers isp speeds at a reasonable price that would take advantage of products like this yet, probably in another decade or so but then there will be 1 gigabit + kit. one of those things that is beyond its practical application, unless you're rich (north american internet still only tops out at around 100mb/s residental, which is within the 200 mb/s kit)
@ShitWrangler The benefit will be noticed with local network transfers/streaming... like streaming HD videos to a Boxee Box from a NAS device or local file transfers between computers; for example. Hope this helps.
@DLinkTV just one last quick follow up, 1080p mkv streams fine for me using my 200mb kit from dlink, but of course 500 would be beneficial. AVC/DTSMA will not stream over the older standard, but may very well with this.
@ShitWrangler Correct. The less compressed the video, the more throughput you need. Also, consider multiple streams and transfers going on at the same time. 500mbps is not for everyone, but the more devices that use the network, the more useful it becomes.
i have 2 powerline av adapters. One of course is plugged into my modem, and the other is in my room plugged into my xbox. Can i plug the one in my room into an wireless router so i can have wireless in my room.

Do I have to connect the ethernet cable of the 2nd adapter to a computer? What an inconvenience! That means that it isn't wireless. What a bother!

@maltesemassive Yes. This PowerLine adapter is to give you an extra wired connection. Unfortunately, not every device is wireless... yet.
However, check out the DHP-w306av. This is PowerLine device, as the second adapter, acts as an access point. It has wireless-N built-in.
Check it out. It's a pretty cool device!

@sirgreggins8824 You can't reroute a connection that has already been routed. At least that is what I have been told.
As long as it never goes through a router before it gets to your room you should be able to.
