  • who ever did this promo i thank you so for the memories.i am dropping tears

  • I forgot about Joey and his little brother.

I wonder why they always add a child once the series gets on in later years. Family Ties, Married with Children, Growing Pains, Too Close for Comfort.

  • @JeXsXsXe Jumpin the Shark

  • This show was ok not great just ok i give it a C+ never got into it like that back then

  • Lara Jill MIller (Samantha) was my first celebrity crush!

RIP Nell Carter, Dolph Sweet, John Hoyt, and Howard Morton

  • Is it just me, or did anyone else feel uncomfortable when she'd beat her friend Addy?

  • These two songs have been in my head and only watching this has set them free!

  • 0:23 Steven Hawking's guest appearance on episode #23

  • i didnt even know this was an actual show i was trying to look for something else lol

  • rip nell carter! loved you.

  • Kit Kat Bar?

  • Ahh the 1980s, when men were men and women were nice.

Now the 2010s, when men are emasculated castrated retards and women are all spoiled whores bitching about just anything and complaining at the slutwalk.

Well done people: how to screw an entire culture in less than 30 years. Bravo!

  • long time ago in the 80s always loved this show

  • The original theme sounded rather old-fashioned while the second theme (which was used for the post 1st season) was more modern & suave. That was the 1980s 4 U.

  • Gimme a break, this posting's lame.

  • Gimme a break, Nell Carter's dead?

  • what sucks this show isn't in reruns what gives

  • @TheRobert2254 Definitely, well said.

  • Awwww my boo "Mario Barrett" sampled this song!!

  • just a heads up I read somewhere that the complete series is going to be released on DVD in Canada sometime this year

  • @Disneydanny Yes it is the complete series is coming out on DVD In Canada

  • @sbushfan11 Why don't they release the complete series here in the US!!

  • @25phillycheesesteak I wish they would release the complete series here in the US I would buy it in no time flat

  • @Disneydanny Can we also get it here in the US?

  • @Disneydanny really, it broke my heart when she died....

  • there seems to b 2 versions of the original theme. any idea when they first used this version?

  • @Disneydanny The original theme was used for 1981-1982 season then the 2 version original theme was used from 1982 until the show ended in 1987

  • @sbushfan11 It's funny that the original theme was only for 1 year, because I remember hearing that one a lot more than the second theme.

I was 2/3 years old in '81/'82, and I mostly watched this show in reruns; so maybe the reruns used mostly the original even for the later show; cause that's the one I remember hearing the most.

  • the last 50seconds the JAM!!

  • RIP Nell Carter.....Okay I just keep going over themes of old shows, reminiscing about the good ole dayz! Sometimes it's music....today it's the shows. TV will never be the same as it was back then :(

  • I want a happy ending

  • gievn the size of Nell carter, maybe the theme song should have been "Give me a Steak!"

  • If the evil Chief had his way, he'd sow every vagina shut.

  • Break me off a piece of that kit kat bar. Where's the Joey Lawrence blackface episode?

  • don't you love the 80's

  • @Tiffafi I do love the 80's

  • @sbushfan11 They certainly don't make sit-coms like they use to. Everything's so slick-assed and to cute by half.

  • @Yobachi2007 "too cute" that is.

  • @Yobachi2007 They sure don't make sit-coms like they use

  • @sbushfan11 Yeah, less cheese, more stupid.

  • RIP Nell Carter :(

  • I never would have known Nell Carter prefers Oysters instead of Hot Dogs when I was a kid.

  • Oh my gosh! I loved this show as a kid!

  • Classic theme's. RIP Nell Carter, this show really played an important part of my lives and others. Having an African American women on this show during the early 80's was really impactful to the way America would view it's shows.

  • That's what I meant. I mistyped the timestamp.

  • 0:38 wasn't she on the "Three's Company" episode as the girl who had a crush on Jack?

  • No Lara Jill Miller was on Three's Company that was Lauri Hendler Played A teenage girl who is visiting the Ropers develops an unhealthy crush on Jack. The Episode was called The Crush.

  • Damn . The 80s was the greatest . nothing can bring those days back

  • i got to watch a few episodes of Gimme a Break! today- some for the first time in decades. For a moment I was back in an amazing time. It was 1985, I was a kid, and life was great.

I miss Nell Carter so much. A consummate performer, actress, comedienne, and greatly overlooked for being what she was, one of the great voices of the 2nd half of the 20th century.

I'm glad this stuff is getting posted...thanks for the tribute.

  • I always wanted to put a vaccum cleaner in a fish tank, thanks to this show!

  • I remember this!! OMG ALLL OF THE DIFFERENT VERSIONS AHH TO BE A KID AGAIN HUH? (TEARS)

  • I forgot about this show. lol

  • This was my show!

  • Mario has a song called, "I Need A Girl" feat. Baby Cham and it sounds like the first theme song.

  • The producers probable sampled the first theme, and I don't blame them, it fit the mood of Mario's song perfectly.

  • i heard it dont sound like no gimme a break first beat does though

  • who's the fat chick?

  • If your question has`nt been answered yet it`s Nell Carter God rest her soul.

  • What, was she your girlfriend or something?

  • First of all...TY for putting this together...I was a youngster when I was introduced to her...If someone could tactfully respond to this...It would be greatly appreciated...If I recall correctly...She was a guest on a Reba episode as a therapist...I do not know what year it was filmed...and am unsure when Nell passed away...as long as im in my right mind...my memories of her wont fade away...anyone feel free to enlighten me...

  • Your Right about Nell did guest star on the show Reba Nell did three epsiodes that were filmed in 2001,Nell played therapist named Dr. Susan Peters. Nell passed away on January 23 2003 at the age of 54 years old.

  • Did she have diabetes? How did she die I forget or I never knew? she was young and beautiful, she was awsome!

  • Yes Nell Had diabetes. Nell Died on January 23 2003 from a heart attack brought on by complications from diabetes Nell was only 54 years old.

  • I remembered that. I was so sad when I found out she died. She was very underrated.

  • I liked this show. Remember the one episode when Arnold and Dudley where doing drugs and Mrs Regean chewed them out, but then Fonzie. came to school and everything was cool. aaaaaayyyyyyyy

  • say whattt what show was u watching lol

  • Arnold did not do drugs, but reported on it in his high school newspaper. That episode was from the Different Strokes show. You can search the imdb-the inertnet movie data base for the Different Strokes episode titled "The Reporter"

  • i love d gimme a break, watched with my mother, i loved the theme to it , gosh tv was so good then

  • Man...t.v was so awesome back then. So down to earth, you could relate. Nostalgia is a bitch.

  • i forgot that there were two different themes !!

  • Thanks for putting this up.

Did the second song played at the ending of each tv show? I don't think I recall it. I like the song.

  • Yes, it played as an instrumental, without Nell's vocal, but with a chorus repeating the words "Gimme A Break"

  • This makes me feel warm and cozy like hot chocolate chip cookies and mom's hugs.

  • right?? lol... me too.

  • The show was a classic. I watched when I was younger now 28 I still can not get over little Joey will turn out to be a good actor by the name of Joey Lawence and his little if they got the older bro all 3 of them would of been on a show for the first time.

  • Hey, you know the middle one's husband was one of the guys in Weekend at Bernies
