I was in the United States Army during 1994 and I was deployed to Haiti. I do feel sorrow for the people of haiti, and wish them happiness. I do not understand why no one wanted to truly help the people of haiti before the earth quake. Many people died then. No one really had any real drinking water and the living condiotions at that time, well the where no better then. Why is it there has to be a natuarl disaster before we think we should help people.
This all just too painful to even think about. I was just thinking this morning,what if that would have been us? I'm from Puerto Rico and when I come to think of it. An earthquake of that magnitude could have easily wiped out the island because it is so small. I feel for the people and praise them for their strength. Maybe this will end the corrruption in Haiti and stronger and better houses and schools will be built so that the people of Haiti can live better lives.

Like so many people out there who care about what happened in Haiti I was only trying to put my self in their place just for a sec and try to imagine what these people are going through right now....but I honestly could not because trying to imagine something that devastating is very hard.

Haiti had a horrible earthquake and that is a fact. The people there need our help, aid, and support.

The main religion in Haiti is Roman Catholics. It is true there is a voodoo belief of sorts there. In other countries as well. When Haiti rises again ( and it will ), There should have strict building codes in order to rebuild. That fault line is still there and another large earthquke will still be in Haiti's future. From the smallest to the tallest should be engeered and constructed to the hightest quality so this does't happen again.

Aid is there. It has been slowed due to the air field only able to handle a small amount of air traffic at a time. Others circle and wait to land. The US has Navy ships on the way. One can make enough water for 600,000 people a day. It takes time to clear. Haiti is poor so equipment will have to be moved in also. People are helping and working hard. It is massive the work to be done. It seems to never be fast enough no matter where some thing like this happens. Keep Haiti in your prayers.
Earthquakes have occurred since the beginning of time. This country needed our support & investment for years but we turned a blind eye. This is such a heart-breaking tragedy. I can't believe aid is just beginning to trickle in. It seems like there are a lot of people taking pictures and "reporting" but what they have needed is medical attention, water, rescue crews, shelter, food. The pictures--especially of the babies--has been heart wrenching. Help!
I, totally, agree about the heart wrenching predicament of the babies. No one has mentioned psychological counseling for these people, especially, the children. Many of these children will not have parents. PTSD Post-traumatic stress disorder can last a long time.

Terrible, beyond the expected. According to the latest news an estimation of over 50,000 deaths. Near 50% cannot read or write. After the shake, near 4,600 prisoners immediately scape from the prison. Over the years, government of Haiti yet have not used millions of dollars towards to the proper construction and simple basic needs of the region. well I know first hand that Earthquakes do not happen in the Caribbean. Especially spots like Haiti. I've lived in the Caribbean for most of my life. I cant change my ways, there's nothing to change. Science and time will decide what may cause or not cause the earths problems including earthquakes. In the mean time they are very real no matter what the cause may be. And we all never know when one will hit our area.

The main religion in Haiti is Roman Catholics. It is true there is a voodoo belief of sorts there. In other countries as well. It goes hand in hand in Haiti with the Christan belief and it is in " family spirits".They believe that the "family spirits" help protect the family, children, etc. The misconception of Haiti full of sorcery and zombies is just that...a misconception.

When Haiti rises again ( and it will ), There should have strict building codes in order to rebuild. That fault line is still there and another large earthquke will still be in Haiti's future. From the smallest to the tallest should be engeered and constructed to the hightest quality so this does't happen again.

I'm going to be honest, I'm sure if it were you and your family...searching for loved ones and wondering if they are alive, it would be hard. Aid is there. It has been slowed due to the air field only able to handle a small amount of air traffic at a time. Others circle and wait to land. The US has Navy ships on the way. One can make enough water for 600,000 people a day. It takes time to clear. Haiti is poor so equipment will have to be moved in also. People are helping and working hard. It is massive the work to be done. It seems to never be fast enough no matter where some thing like this happens. Keep Haiti in your prayers.

Earthquakes have occurred since the beginning of time. This country needed our support & investment for years but we turned a blind eye. This is such a heart-breaking tragedy. I can't believe aid is just beginning to trickle in. It seems like there are a lot of people taking pictures and "reporting" but what they have needed is medical attention, water, rescue crews, shelter, food. The pictures--especially of the babies--has been heart wrenching. Help!

I, totally, agree about the heart wrenching predicament of the babies. No one has mentioned psychological counseling for these people, especially, the children. Many of these children will not have parents. PTSD Post-traumatic stress disorder can last a long time.

Terrible, beyond the expected. According to the latest news an estimation of over 50,000 deaths. Near 50% cannot read or write. After the shake, near 4,600 prisoners immediately scape from the prison. Over the years, government of Haiti yet have not used millions of dollars towards to the proper construction and simple basic needs of the region. Haiti has received help as Africa, poor government management continues to hurt the country. Bless this country, minimize their suffering...

I do agree. But natural disasters have been happening through history, many nothing to do with global warming. I know this is mostly down to this but it doesn't matter where it is, it matters about the people that are in need of help. Fix it people? well I know first hand that Earthquakes do not happen in the Caribbean. Especially spots like Haiti. I've lived in the Caribbean for most of my life. I cant change my ways, there's nothing to change. The most that could have happened is a hurricane and it wasn't one. Haiti has been down for a while and nobody wanted to help before.
