just stupid. what about the situation now in iran? nobody's talking about what's happing these days...gee forget the past, a lot worse things are happy right now in iran...and nobody even cares.
@Skipbeatskipper of course you're right. but the thing is, people forget to talk about NOW, what's happening today at this moment. It really is important to show the people what happend in the past, but isn't it more important to show the current situation? you can't change what happend before, but you change what's happening right now.
i saw it last night. the pictures are great but that's about it. bunch of nonsense nudity for no reason, story line had no point, everyone was pissed after the movie was done.I think this was the most pointless movie I have seen...even worst than 300!
I am amazed to eyewitness such magnitude in film creation, Coppolla and Cameron , have nothing over this talented Iranian Lady. Ms Neshat , You have entered a new dimention a story telling . We are honored to have you among us. God Bless and please keep up this great work of art.
get a life, it is a movie, it makes iran look like a beautiful country. it may show negative aspects of iranian men, but it is an artistic film more than anything. it is visually pleasing, it has a storyline but one that is very difficult to adapt, it has not been made to make people hate iran, it will only encourage love for the country and its people. so relax, and stop being so paranoid, not everybody hates iran.

this is a movie in tradition of good guys and bad guys. and we iranians supposed to be the bad guys. but it doesn't work that way my friend. the name of the game is: if you hit me in the face, i will kick you in the ass. insulting us brings you folks nothing but a united hate front against you!
a fare and balance minded social film maker should differentiate people folkloric values from government extremist image artisticaly. bombast and exaggeration in such a manipulating way is devaluing our culture brand in public.film looks more like a business plan made out of Irans current political climate ..she is catching waves and making fame and money ...im tired of these kind of disrespecting Kiarostami style cinema..delicious meal made for west that is looking for democracy as fantasy..
This is non-sense. Iran is a very civilised country. These people who make such films are only trying to ruin the image of Iran in the world. I am sorry for the director. Never trust the media.
day and night they threaten my country with bombardements, they and night they insult our religion, day and night the plan terror acts in iran, day and night they lie about our culture, day and night they terrorize our nation and in one word, day and night they behave like animals and then they say: why do they hate us!
This is set in 1953. It says so at the start of this trailer. You weren't even born when this would have taken place. Not saying that Iran isn't civilised. I believe you. But the filmmaker is Iranian herself. She's obviously just trying to alert people to things she feels should change. Filmmakers from all over the world do this. She's a politically motivated filmmaker. Why are you so offended?
No,I don't think she's trying to ruin the image of Iran. If anything, her photography makes the country look more beautiful. It's just part documentary, part artistic license. There are monsterous extremes in every society. And bringing negative elements to light helps everyone understand and strive for improvement.
jewishamerican is absolutely right. this is not art, this is propaganda, a cheap one. american regime is well known for substituting for their defeats in reality by means of taking revange in holywood films *lol* all cheap politics...no art. the bitch should be hanged just like her father.
did shirin neshat write the novel? no. did shirin neshat back the film? no, an austrian/german production company did with no iranian involvement or blood. if you watch the film you will see how it is art, not the storyline but the directing. its far easier to criticise than actually do, as it seems you've realised.

even worse...since when do austrians germans, brits r americans care about other people? those who killed 6 million jewish women and childeren are supposed to care about iranians? or those who are bombing iraq and afganistan are concerned abut iranian cinema? *lol* these folks don't even care about their own people. forclosures made millions of americans homeless and now they have nothing better to do but make films with this butcher daughter against iran? *lol* you must be kidding!
i think you just want to argue for the sake of arguing. shirin neshat has done well directing a film that deserved the award it received at venice. it does not matter where you are from, who you are and what your parents may have done, if you dont appreciate her directing, thats your opinion. but there is no need to bring hate into this. end of story, goodbye.
What the fuck does this have to do with Americans or Hollywood? You are out of your mind. This is not a Hollywood film. It's a Persian film funded by Europeans. You don't know what you are talking about.

I'm curious to know the opinion, in regards to this film, of the Persian/Iranian class who immediately fled their homeland after the Shah's downfall.
Most of the Iranian Shah supporters who fled Iran after his downfall would probably like this film... It just shows how hypocritical most of them are. However, surprisingly, many of these Iranian Shah supporters actually dislike Mossadegh for some reason... I've seen them in LA disrespecting Mossadegh and saying how he was a pathetic man. How sad.
Are you referring to the 1st generation of Iranian/Persian immigrants or the 2nd gerneration offspring, or both? Also, have you experienced a difference in attitiude of the two? If so please explain.
