I believe in Heaven and hell. But I have a question for you: Do you believe in soulmates, yes or no? If so, do believe that your soulmate is currently alive? I'm a Deist, which means that I believe that God is a watchmaker of sorts. I don't believe in Divine Intervention, nor the resurrection of Jesus Christ or that he was anything more than a man. I honestly don't know what I believe about the afterlife and I'm perfectly fine with that. Not knowing what awaits me after death is reassuring. It encourages me to examine life for what it is and to live it with no regrets.

Btw, my family is Protestant in case anyone questioned my religious rearing.

I'm an atheist, and most of the people I know are as well... but I do have a few religious friends. I find it funny that they think I'm going to hell for my beliefs. xD

I believe that after we die, we decompose and return to the earth. It's hard for me to believe in something for which there is no proof. To me, believing in a god is like believing in flying unicorns. Sure, they could exist, but I seriously doubt it.

I believe there is a God, I believe you will get to heaven or hell, but you have the control for that built in, every man knows immediately when they do good or bad, that twinge u get when u yell at a friend. Have you ever considered that nothing is something? Nothing doesn't just have to be nothing it can be a way of describing emptiness and that nothing is ACTUALLY what is percieved to be God, the Universe was created when the big bang happened which was caused by: Nothing, what was there before the Big Bang: Nothing. Nothing is God. God is Emptiness.What happens in the afterlife: Nothing. God does not exist yet it is there. What happens in the afterlife: Nothing.

Illogical. Nothing can never be something, they are opposites. Were this Universe 'nothing' it would not exist.

The Creator cannot be nothing or emptiness, because without something this universe could not exist.

I suggest you watch Sagan's video on understanding dimensions to better understand this 4-D space/time. Our Creator sees all that exists to us and exists everywhere, simultaneously.

Perhaps your afterlife is your desire, so I would at least consider and then choose wisely.

Strangely, I know it isn't very common but I agree with your view, I respect a lot of religions, not including scientology and satanism and e.t.c but I think a lot of them is to help people get motivated and 'get up in the morning'. While i never understand why people hold religious beliefs, i think everyone is entitled to their own opinions and not to have people try to convince them otherwise. part of me believes the same thing as you, but another part of me believes in re-incarnation... which is odd because i grew up Christian. I don't know why, it just seems strange to me that there are some people you meet that seem so familiar, like you've met them before.

What i wonder about is a christian's opinion on what happens to those who haven't been able to have the good news shared to them. For example, a community living on an isolated island who have never heard of Jesus. Would they go to hell?

God is God, he has his ways to reach those people... but it is terible to think that they may not ever hear the good news... but again, God has his ways to reach these kind of people, either through dreams/appearances or people who are sent (today's appostals)

Deep subject. People have been killing each other over religion since the beginning. It would be nice if everybody could be tolerant of everybody else's beliefs. Unfortunately, history is full of religious leaders who had the One True Answer and who felt the need to force all those who disagree to accept it or die. As long as those leaders find followers, religious strife will continue.

i think you're probably right, rob. i doubt there's an afterlife. but the universe is vast and complex beyond our understanding, so i can't be sure what happens after death. i respect every person's *right* to believe what they want. i don't feel obliged to agree with the beliefs of others, but am not usually rude or dismissive about them, *unless* someone tries to force them on me, and/or use their beliefs as a basis for denying me my full rights to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness.

Now I'd like to say that I'm Catholic and I go to mass every Sunday and I do believe in an after life. Heaven, Hell and Purgatory. I believe that if one goes to Purgatory they will always eventually go to Heaven. Purgatory is where one is forgiven for his sins before he goes to Heaven.

But anyway, I don't try to push my religion on anyone, and the way you presented your thoughts made me think. =D Thinking FTW!

I don't believe in a god or an afterlife, and I feel the same way about it as you do. I just wish that I had come to that belief (or lack thereof) earlier. If I had been an atheist when I was your age (I'm about 11 years older than you), I think I might have been happier.
