Awesome sound man. I picked up a 2010 FX-4 last october I just ordered the Gibson dual sport looks much like this... I dont have forced induction or K&N cold air... is it beneficial for me to install a cold air? I want to get as much power out of it without screwing with major components like superchargers. etc.
best thing to do on a 3.0l v6 is to unbolt the muffler great sound more power. i know i have a 2000 ford ranger 3.0 v6 with a 5 speed was a pos now its smlking ass lol also put stacks on it
Why don't you learn the language its waste not waist some things are spelled different but sound the same it happens in a certain language known as english
also... if u run straight pipes not only will the check engine light stay on bc theres no oxygen sensor reading what ur engine is burning... but u'll lose back pressure... which in turn makes u lose horsepower... i would know... gahh... i did it before. dont cut ur cat conv. off...lol
4 Cylinders are easily compared to air pumps, the faster you can get the air in and out the better, if low back pressure isn't good for power on the 2.3L why in the hell would ford put full out headers in 93-97 before finally stroking them in 98? First thing you should do when you buy one is rip out the damn intake muffler (Black Box between the throttle body and the MAF Sensor) get a K&N Filter and open the exhaust up. Then feel free to build it up and turbo it.
@Hotarihanzo well said.first thing i did to my 03 zetec focus was rip that piece of *&$# off and put in a k&n short ram.i cut the muffler of an ran a piece of pipe with a tip...sounded good till i hit a deer...!!
the only time you should run straight pipes is when you have a remapped computer or high pressure injectors.i ran jeggs injectors and a bully dog map with straight pipes and i lost no pressure...gained 29hp and 26 torque on a speed works dyno.
dude that ant runnin rich, my truck runs rich, when i get onto it, it puts out a little black smoke or flames, but hell i got 460 cubic inch under my hood.
EFI's can still have funky ECU tunes that have to be ironed out either on a dyno or on the street with tuning software. It's not always an automatic function when dealing with modifications.
Really.. I mean really? Are YOU a retard? Where in the hell have you seen a forced induction vehicle with 8-15 psi custom tuned for POWER able to run on 87 fuel? Come on.. An in Florida, you can only run 87, 89, OR 93.. we don't have 91.. sorry buddy.
You can run on 87 with a forced induction vehicle IF and ONLY IF you A use bowled pistons B use shorter connecting rods C buy cylinder heads with a larger combustion chamber D use the right ignition and cam timing
it is possible, but highly difficult and highly expensive! Plus, you're right, it drops your power numbers.
@sonicbluedge i was told it was possible to run 87 octane fule on a force inducted motor but it would take a long time to tune and wouldn't be very reliable.
it was condensation . the EGR system recirculates air into the exhaust helping the catalyst burn excess fuel trapped in the honeycomb- in the form of particulate matter- (cat) the presence of moisture in the air resulted in condensation. your o2 sensors compensate for richness by leaning out the motor automatically. your truck is fine, just watch the air/fuel ratio with a guage so you don't get to lean under boost, and detonate...therby destroying you motor, or part of it at least.
can anyone email me help about where i can get a turbo for my 4.0 automatic ford ranger xlt 2x4 ?? what mod can i do with it ? just want to know so i can have fun with it lol
you can find some good turbos on ebay, but then you have to get a map sensor, a digital ignition, colder plugs, a manifold made for intake and exhaust, an inter cooler, wastegate, blow-off valve, high volume fuel pump, bigger injectors, may as well beef the rotating assembly up, get copper gaskets for the heads, and the like. you'll feel the turbo you got doesn't have enough boost you'll get a bigger one then blow your motor, the end...
ranger has the entirely wrong torque curve for a turbo. this would probably add power, but not USEABLE power. Look at a Whipplecharger and a cam to match and you will have a truck that will gave drastically more grunt on the low end, as well as strong midrange power. If you want top end speed, sell the truck and get a true sportscar
I'm an straight pipes (no cat, just headers) on mine and even though it's loud as hell it sounds a bit whiny and high pitched.
if you want a cheap, good sound, look at Thrush exhaust. I put the factory pipes back on from the cat back, and the Thrush muffler made all the difference in the world. The tone deepened, and sounded like a truck should. The idle now almost sounds like a v-8
most reason why most people don't put str8 pipes is because that annoying check engine light stays on.(oxygen sensor i think?) really though i wouldn't cut it out of mines mainly because i just picked my ranger up.
you guys should also look into aero turbine mufflers. I work at a performance shop and we sell the shit outta these mufflers (and for a good reason)the benefits are amazing for a simple weld-in muffler. They have a straight thru design with no chambers, baffles, or fiberglass packing. (all stainless steel) they are a bit on the loud side due to the design but well worth it for the substantial gains you receive. also great for turbo applications because they allow virtually no back pressure
@AztekLBC Also depends on where you live, and how many cats the truck has. I had a friend with one that had i think four cats, and a straight pipe wasnt really all that loud and sounded pretty good.
how much did you paid? I also have a 2006 ranger and I want to modify it, I wish I could make it like the ranger thunderbolt but fuck there's no space. How much HP do you have right now?
damn give it some gas stop being afraid of it

How many horses?
and how much does the supercharger effect your gas mileage?
I bet the mpg goes down a lot?
I'm thinking about doing a supercharger but don't want the gas to be too horrible.

cut off the cat its a just a weight on your exhaust. just reinstall the O2 sensor in the straight pipe, pretty simple.
