  • hoadmaback..its true Cochrane was a Scot, although in those days 1800's the term Ingles was used to describe all from mainland Britain. i beleive he even used it himself on a few occasions...

  • He had a very defined identity of where he came from.

    I can imagine, him just calling himself Ingles for the sake of brevity when addressing foreigners.

    I do it myself, (I live in Brasil)and call myself British when a Brasilian asks me where I'm from.

    Its quite interesting, the amount of Brasilian friends I have, who, when they realized I was a Scot, loudly exclaimed, - 'Why did you not say so in the first place!'

    Things have changed now the British Empire no longer exists.
