"When I was a huge fan of Blackmore when I was a kid, there didn’t exist any internet, magazines, or information on what kind of gear people use or what they were doing. I didn’t know that he was scalloping his guitar – I didn’t know that."
@JacqueShredo - yes, this is true. I try to explain what it feels like to play on scallops - it's like the difference between sliding on the ice with your shoes, or with ice skates... you slide either way, but one is so much smoother & efficient. A light touch definitely helps! Karl sanders of the brutal tech-death metal band Nile just had a custom Dean V made with a completely scalloped fretboard. You can see lots of 'making-of' photos in the Dean woodshop on his facebook page.
The scallops on Ritchie's guitars are slightly different than Yngwie's guitars.
Ritchie's guitars have a deeper scallop towards the end of the fret and are graduated, while Yngwie's guitars have a deeper scallop in the middle of the fret and uniformly distribute.
yngwie didn´t get it from ritchie, he thought that there was too much wood behind the fret, and 1 day, he saw a lute, so he wen´t to a music shop, and asked if they could scallop his guitar neck, and they could, he said it in an interview
@dvschsa - yup, he's even hired former Blackmore-band singers for his albums and done covers of old Rainbow songs... AND his new signature Marshall amp head comes in an over-sized Marshall Major box - which is what Ritchie played thru back in the day! hehehe
I'm not taking anything away from Yngwie, not at all - he's amazing. But the truth is the truth, and no one is above the truth. Even Blackmore himself says he will be incredible "once he calms down abit". LOL

Enough of my ranting.
Good job. Ritchie is everyone's hero. \m/

@XAlphaZEROX - yup, absolutely correct! That's how I did mine - Ritchie-style, not Yngwie-style.

@bloodshreded - yeah, I heard that too... but I don't believe him. 99% of his schtick came from Ritchie Blackmore, IMHO.

@tony93666 totally agree, he denies being really influenced by blackmore but the comparison is obvious

@bloodshreded
Yes thats what he SAY.The truth is that he stole it from Blackmore.
Hendrix was what got him started alright,but his big idol (although he will never admit it)is/was Blackmore!
Also his choice of clothes,positions etc etc is pure Blackmore.
