Trust me, had you grew up in the 80's you'd know all about Video Cassette formats....and before that in the 70's you'd use 16 mill. film..(actually that is a bit before MY time, but I knew of it from going to a Video/Film college after High School...I even got to edit some actual film with a razor blade!
