It's not that hard or uncommon anymore to see 1000+ bhp supra's, skyline's, rx7's etc. This one is really nothing special. 1000bhp is not that hard to do, even on a low budget. It's all about quality of parts and tuning.

Just to CLARIFY! The yellow skyline produced that "laser shooting sound" because it has a two step rev limiter AKA launch control which basically rev limits the engine exactly where he should launch giving him the best launch with a good amount of boost... btw that rev limiter has to be AEM as others do not produce the savage amount of backfire you hear

Its the slowest in a straight line outta all the skylines.. it handles only a little better than the r32 because its more weight balanced. The R34 is superior in every aspect. Your reaction time matters nil when bracket racing, the timer doesn't start till you launch, I'd imagine the yellow one would have come out on top but can't be bothered checking out the TOTB timesheets. You can run a quicker ET than the person next to you, but if you launch 2 seconds later they may well pass the end before you. Some circuits have a limit on the reaction time you are allowed, some do not.

Also, in response to a comment farther down the line, my father made a business out of spending less than 15,000 dollars to build and race street-legal A-body mopars that could run mid 9's on street Mickies.

It's always a matter of preference on import or domestic. An experienced mechanic can do more with $15,000 on a legacy V8 than any newer 4-6 cylinder. Price is in labor on a V-8, while it's parts on newer engines.
