we have won 2 of the 4 Olympics that have been played since the best players all participated. CCCP won so many before, but they don't even count because they got to use their best players and ours couldn't participate. Now that we can use our best, look for us to win 80% of the time in the Olympics. And we will use the WC just to give some players a bit of experience on the larger ice, so we can bomb the Europeans over there as well as here. Canada 7 Russia 3 :)

Just another great game between Canada and the Czechs. Losing this game doesn't smart nearly as much as the 2006 Turin embarrassment or the Soviet's smashing of Canada in '81.
@currentriverpat i don't know man....i found alot of people really discounted our 2006 team...i personally felt people react very different in those olympics. It was off that lockout..which really backfired against the players and their public perception..etc. 1998 was definitely the most heart-breaking, 2006 was just a joke and embarrassment.

He hadn't scored 25+ goals in 4 consecutive seasons and even in his prime he was by his own admission below average on breakaways. Gretzky's goal scoring feats and clutch ability from the late 80s and early 90s are not very relevant to his ability in a shootout in 1998. Canada's error in the shootout was selecting Bourque over Yzerman & Recchi.

No Czech Republic won the shootout after a tie game the only way to know which team is better is by one team scoring more goals than the other during the game it was 1-1.
We don't care about 1998 Canada lost a shootout and we lost in 2006 after only 4 of our players played in 2004-05.
The rules were such that there was a shootout after overtime. All the teams accepted those rules and if you personally don't, that's another thing. Czech Republic played better hockey that night in Nagano and I think they deserved to win anyway. However, I still respect team Canada and wish you guys good luck for Olympics in Vancouver, no matter that some Canadians like you despise the Czechs.
When did I ever despise Czechs frankly I'm indifferent towards them its just that I responded to people commenting on this video who were getting cocky about Czech Republic beating Canada like seriously they need to be brought to the reality it was 1-1 and they won a shootout. Great effort by their team take nothing away from that its just the reality is they only won the shootout over Canada to me its not a true victory.
Yes it was the right place, right time scenario for Czech Republic's team with the best goaltender (Hasek) and best player (Jagr) at the time you have a really good chance of winning but the other players on the team were good too like Milan Hejduk, Roman Hamrlik, Robert Lang, Martin Straka, Peter Svoboda, and Robert Reichel. And to add to that there were many players on the team from the Czech league who were great and were very determined to win the gold for their country.
I know Crawford was such an overrated coach why would you put a selfish baby the captaincy over possibly the best player in NHL history. Lindros had great talent but not that great of a head between his shoulders

The miserable mistake of Canada (or should I say Marc Crawford) was to not putting Gretzky on the ice for the shootout and even thought Roy had pretty good numbers in these olympic, they got BEATEN by Finland in the bronze medal game. Another mistake by Canada: naming ERIC LINDROS as a captain (but of course it's BOBBY CLARKE who choosed the players)...

We weren't remotely as good as Canada in the past but in the past 10-15 years we have caught up significantly. Since 1996, when we put together our first really good team, we've won as many World Cups and as many Olympic medals as Canada (although yours was gold versus our silver). We're good now. Our #1 goalie is actually Ryan Miller, who's f'n good. All things being equal I'd rather have Brodeur or Luongo but Miller is an awesome puck stopper.

There's one powerhouse in hockey: Canada. Russia, Sweden and Czechia are close, but don't compare to the amount of great players Canada has produced. USA and Finland are pretenders, while Slovakia doesn't have the population and Germany doesnt have the capability to ever compete for gold.

Though, the WC is great to win too. I don`t understand why you said that it`s for european pride. I know that your guys were pretty damn proud and happy too when they won it. The teams there aren`t made up of total all-stars but it`s not a shit at all. It`s usually a few NHL guys (Stammers, Ovi, Vokoun etc. played last year) and then less known guys (ok, Russia was stacked as hell in `10 so it`s an exception lol) but that counts for all countires so it`s great to win it for sure.

Canadian players rarely get to play on the larger ice surface, so it is a disadvantage to us when we play in the Olympics in Europe. But the Europeans play on our ice all the time, so they should win the Olympics on the smaller ice surface but rarely do. But Canada is the best at hockey, easily. We won't win every tournament-it wouldn't be so special to win if we did. But

we have won 2 of the 4 Olympics that have been played since the best players all participated. CCCP won so many before, but they don't even count because they got to use their best players and ours couldn't participate. Now that we can use our best, look for us to win 80% of the time in the Olympics. And we will use the WC just to give some players a bit of experience on the larger ice, so we can bomb the Europeans over there as well as here. Canada 7 Russia 3 :)

Just another great game between Canada and the Czechs. Losing this game doesn't smart nearly as much as the 2006 Turin embarrassment or the Soviet's smashing of Canada in '81.

@currentriverpat i don't know man....i found alot of people really discounted our 2006 team...i personally felt people react very different in those olympics. It was off that lockout..which really backfired against the players and their public perception..etc. 1998 was definitely the most heart-breaking, 2006 was just a joke and embarrassment.

@armatageshanks06 Nah, never bought into that rubbish. Gretzky was the greatest goal scorer of all time but by 1998 he wasn't in Canada's top 5 shooters. He hadn't scored 25+ goals in 4 consecutive seasons and even in his prime he was by his own admission below average on breakaways. Gretzky's goal scoring feats and clutch ability from the late 80s and early 90s are not very relevant to his ability in a shootout in 1998. Canada's error in the shootout was selecting Bourque over Yzerman & Recchi.

Yes, I agree. Czech history is full of the cowards or cowards acts: king Zikmund, Munich pact. But when You'll look at the czech history in detail, You'll look the betrayal of neighbours.
But czechs aren't uneducated. E.g. there are not one learning "scieces" (like in USA) at the basic schools in the Czech republic. This learning is distributed to "mathematics", "physics", "chemistry", "geography", "history" and "biology".

Since when has Czech Republic been Canada's rival? Russia is our rival and the truth is it was a tie game and your team won a shootout against Canada and you think Czech Republic beat Canada in a hockey game? No Czech Republic won the shootout after a tie game the only way to know which team is better is by one team scoring more goals than the other during the game it was 1-1.
We don't care about 1998 Canada lost a shootout and we lost in 2006 after only 4 of our players played in 2004-05.

The rules were such that there was a shootout after overtime. All the teams accepted those rules and if you personally don't, that's another thing. Czech Republic played better hockey that night in Nagano and I think they deserved to win anyway. However, I still respect team Canada and wish you guys good luck for Olympics in Vancouver, no matter that some Canadians like you despise the Czechs.

When did I ever despise Czechs frankly I'm indifferent towards them its just that I responded to people commenting on this video who were getting cocky about Czech Republic beating Canada like seriously they need to be brought to the reality it was 1-1 and they won a shootout. Great effort by their team take nothing away from that its just the reality is they only won the shootout over Canada to me its not a true victory.

Yes it was the right place, right time scenario for Czech Republic's team with the best goaltender (Hasek) and best player (Jagr) at the time you have a really good chance of winning but the other players on the team were good too like Milan Hejduk, Roman Hamrlik, Robert Lang, Martin Straka, Peter Svoboda, and Robert Reichel. And to add to that there were many players on the team from the Czech league who were great and were very determined to win the gold for their country.

The miserable mistake of Canada (or should I say Marc Crawford) was to not putting Gretzky on the ice for the shootout and even thought Roy had pretty good numbers in these olympic, they got BEATEN by Finland in the bronze medal game. Another mistake by Canada: naming ERIC LINDROS as a captain (but of course it's BOBBY CLARKE who choosed the players)...

USA is a powerhouse now, in case you haven't noticed. 1996 World Cup winners, including winning 3 of 4 against your precious Canada. 2002 Olympic silver medalists. 2004 World Cup semifinalists. 2004 World Junior Champions. Those are "powerhouse" numbers. The problem with you Canucks is you always think you're the world's only great hockey country. Face it, there are now sevem #1 teams in the world, Canada is only one of them.

Are you kidding? Have you seen our young talent these days? Kane, Parise, Kessel, Kessler, Mueller, Dustin Brown, Stastny, Suter, Higgins, vanRiemsdyk, the Johnsons (Erik and Jack). We are stacked with young talent. In fact, all we really have is either young talent or over-the-hill talent (Modano, Chelios, etc.). I'm not saying Canada is better than the USA. Far from it. That's where your problem is, stop comparing the hockey landscape of 1972 to the hockey landscape today. We weren't remotely as good as Canada in the past but in the past 10-15 years we have caught up significantly. Since 1996, when we put together our first really good team, we've won as many World Cups and as many Olympic medals as Canada (although yours was gold versus our silver). We're good now. Stop living in the past.

Our #1 goalie is actually Ryan Miller, who's f'n good. All things being equal I'd rather have Brodeur or Luongo but Miller is an awesome puck stopper.

Hey guys..World championship in 1996(Wien, Austria)won Czech republic, such as olympic games 1998 and world championships in 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2006(not mentioning silver and bronze medals)and now explain me why don´t you counz czech republic as a powerhouse of ice hockey?btw:historically czech republic won more gold medals than sweden..

The Czechs ARE one of the powerhouses of ice hockey. There are seven: Canada, Russia, Sweden, USA, Finland, Czech Republic, and Slovakia.

There's one powerhouse in hockey: Canada. Russia, Sweden and Czechia are close, but don't compare to the amount of great players Canada has produced. USA and Finland are pretenders, while Slovakia doesn't have the population and Germany doesnt have the capability to ever compete for gold.

Actually, the hockey world does revolve around Canada. The hall of fame is in Toronto, the World Cup used to be the Canada Cup, 50% of the Nhl is Canadian, and hockey is the #1 sport in only one country-Canada. When a Gretzky, Lemieux or Howe comes from any other country there might be an argument. Now return to your NFL or Nascar or whatever boring "sport" americans watch these days.

Gretzky, Lemieux, and Howe have already come from other countries, you Canuckleheads were just too blind/snobby/in denial to acknowledge it. Fetisov, Larianov, Mikhalov, Tretiak, and others from the Soviet era were just as good as any Canadian, they just didn't get the recognition because, well, they were Soviets. The greatest goalie of all time might be a Czech and the greatest defensemen of all time might be a Swede. Canada might be a great hockey country but is far from the only one.

Sorry, but those Soviets don't compare to Canada's all time best (except for maybe Tretiak) despite being from a nation with 10 X the population. Larionov only got 70 points once in the nhl. That same year Gretzky had 102. There's no way Lidstrom is better than Orr. I would bet the province of Saskatchewan could field a team better than every country but Sweden and Russia right now. Seriously, go watch college basketball and leave us true hockey fans alone.

the canada cup (later renamed the world cup of hockey) has never been won by czech republic/czechslovakia. it was won by canada in 1976, '84, '87, '91, and '04, by USSR in '81, and USA in '96. there is a DIFFERENCE between the yearly "IIHF world hockey championship" that the czechs have won and the canada cup/world cup which they have won ZERO times. yeah google it and then speak

I PREFER OLYMPICS BECAUSE THEY'RE PLAYED IN JAPAN, THEN THE US, ITALY, CANADA...BTW, IN 2005 WHEN NHL WAS NOT PLAYED THE WORLD CHAMPS WERE PLAYED IN VIENNA CANADA HAD ALL THEIR STARS, THE CZECHS WON. I THINK CANADA IS BEST AT THE GAME BUT NOT UNBEATABLE. GIVEN THE CONDITIONS YOUNG LADS HAVE OVER HERE IT IS A MIRACLE WE CAN COMPETE. UNFORTUNATELY, WE DON'T HAVE GOOD YEARS IN SIGHT.

@Braveaxe you better care about Canada because if they don't they will rape the Czechs even worse than they usually do. Canada has won twice since NHL is allowed to play and CR only once. You will probably never win anything important again (WC is not important) since Hasek is now retired. He is maybe the greatest goalie ever and he beat Canada single handedly in this game

How is not WC important?
Just because there can`t be all top canadians players as some of them are still fighting for the Stanley Cup?
That can be said about all other countires as well. Canada can and always will be able to ice great players so I don`t like these excuses saying that WC is not important. It`s important and it also produces pretty cool and exciting hockey. You should have a look sometimes. I just hope that Canada will play all heart like us Czechs usually do.

Everyone would take the Olympic gold medal of course. It`s the very top of sports achievements. That`s why us Czechs are so proud of winning in Nagano. It was the biggest ice hockey tournament of all times imo. There will be many great players and legends in future times for sure but for me and even for other people from other countires, it was just legendary and really biggest tourny of all times. NHL players allowerd there and just at a time when the ,,euro,, breakout was...

in its hay days so all the countires there could ice their very best NHL players. You had Gretzky, aging but still. The rest of Canadas team were beasts too. The other countries had also many great and memoreable guys there so I fucking love this particular gold medal so much. I wouldn`t swap it for anything.

Though, the WC is great to win too. I don`t understand why you said that it`s for european pride. I know that your guys were pretty damn proud and happy too when they won it. The teams there aren`t made up of total all-stars but it`s not a shit at all. It`s usually a few NHL guys (Stammers, Ovi, Vokoun etc. played last year) and then less known guys (ok, Russia was stacked as hell in `10 so it`s an exception lol) but that counts for all countires so it`s great to win it for sure.

And if Canada just doesn`t care so why to even fly there? Canada should win everything in every category if they`re so strong and dominant as most Canadiens says but that`s not happening and us europeans think that this attitude isn`t very good if you can`t acomplish all the talking about winning easily. I must admit that Canada is the best team but even the best just falls sometimes. There are at least 5 nations who are able to beat Canada and there should be a respect, no?

@CheekerRoute66 The reason Canada sends a team is for the younger guys to gain some experience on the larger ice surface. Canadian players rarely get to play on the larger ice surface, so it is a disadvantage to us when we play in the Olympics in Europe. But the Europeans play on our ice all the time, so they should win the Olympics on the smaller ice surface but rarely do. But Canada is the best at hockey, easily. We won't win every tournament-it wouldn't be so special to win if we did. But

You`ve won the WJC recently and I`d love if it were our guys and I wouldn`t say: Well, you guys won but it doesn`t mean a thing as you`re not all-star vets yet. It`s not Olympics but it`s pretty damn good feeling too.
Even all the WCs from the last 20 years were very competitive and Canada didn`t have bad rosters at all. They were/are always considered as hot favorites. I wish that you was a czech guy and remembered all the gold runs and saw all the matches.
