  • Hi :) Check out my channel to help you with English

  • Hi Rachel,I am from India and not a native speaker of English. In my job as customer service professional,I speak with Canadian speakers. This video of yours is certainly going to help me.I am going to implement the same tonight. When it is night in India,it is afternoon there in Canada.I am pretty confident that my voice would be complemented.

  • @nageshb1 Great! I hope it works. :)

  • Hello Rachel, I'm French and I've studied English at the university for several years. Oral exams are very difficult for me because I don't speak a lot and I know my pronunciation is bad. Thanks for your videos, I can practice at home and i'm a little more confident. Hope I'll go to the US one day ! Best wishes :)

  • Sorry, I don't like to speak with an American accent anymore, I will speak with British accent

  • I was just wondering about one of the first phases you used "When I've lived abroad". Aren't you supposed to use Past Simple; When I lived abroad instead? Unless you still love abroad, ir should've been "When I lived abroad".

    Sorry if I'm wrong!

    Thanks

    Greetings from Brazil

  • great work.....from an american english teacher in mexico....keep it up.

  • You have lovely & such beautiful eyes. Great video keep it up. God bless America :)

  • Thank you very much teacher Rachel for teaching and helping us to speak correct American English. Musleh

  • That's great lesson. I hope you will concentrate a bout language function you pracice here, for example, what do you say when you meet your freind after long time, or when you visit someone who is ill in the hospital and so. They are very important for class 9 here in Egypt I will be very thankful for you to provide me with some stuff like that.

    Ahmed, Egypt, Cairo.

  • thax alot Rachel!

  • Tomorrow I am going to have a phone job interview and this was very helpful for me, as I am not English native speaker. I really love your way of speaking and explaining, really nice watching :) Thanks for posting this :) Have a nice day ;)

  • Hey Rachel,

when i heard the part of saying "Speaking" at the very first beginning i thought it was kinda weird, but guess what,. i heard it at work today and i was like OMG, Rachel said that so i had to come back and thank you, i`m Egyptian working as a customer service agent for an American Company and your lessons have been very helpful for me as a not-native English speaker.

Keep it up, please keep doing more videos, Respect from Egypt, love you girl

  • @MrProudtobeegyptian That is great! I'm glad the videos are helping you at your job!!

    Best,

    Rachel

  • i've never heard anyone say "this is she" everyone i know says "this is HER"

  • @muffinsNsausage Both are common, but 'this is she' is actually the one that is grammatically correct. Pronouns after linking verbs (like 'is') are to be in the subject form: This is she, it is I, etc.

  • @rachelsenglish yeah but since when are americans grammatically correct? lol

  • I know someone that should view this video

  • Wow, I fell in love with his way of teaching is very nice to watch you and your speaking voice is not as sick as those of others who teach the pronunciation of the Internet, and I really enjoyed it, thank you Rachel!!!

  • do people really have a problem with answering phones? i just imagine the persons face in my mind, and talking as such... ?? easy!

  • Dale a tu cuerpo alegria macarena que tu cuerpo es pa' darle alegria y cosa buena...

    There you have the Macarena!

    greetings from Spain.

  • I feel the problem of non-native English speakers is that the language does not come out naturally. We make it. Adults lack the natural tendency to learn a language. I'm way too much used to the tongue and lip motions of my native pronunciations. My tongue is not habituated to the motions that are required to speak other languages. I think you have done some excellent work to demonstrate the role of lips and tongue. I'm watching lot of your videos lately to learn these techniques.

  • @ariforu I agree. It can feel very unnatural to try to form the sounds of a foreign language until lots of repetition is employed. Thanks so much for your encouragement and for watching!!

  • When you say 'hold on' why doesn't the letter 'o' in 'on' sound like 'aa' ? Thought o in 'on', 'Tom' should sound like 'aan' and 'Taam' .

  • @ariforu Unfortunately, there isn't a rule to answer 'why'. Sometimes O is pronounced one way, and sometimes another.

  • @rachelsenglish Okay. Yep rules are little confusing 'sometimes' (specially when you watch videos from different teachers). I like watching your videos though. I think you enjoy your own teaching. Your expressions are very nice.

  • You look like Sarah Silverman.

  • @tony65559 Yes! I used to get that a lot.

  • really liked the way you teach!

  • I'm Philippines just watched your video how to answer the phone, i really like your pronunciations is very clear. thank you so much. i have an idea how to answer the phone.

  • Precisely what I was looking for. Although, I think you spend too much time describing the pronunciation.

    Very helpful introduction, anyway.

  • I've just watched a few of your videos. Really love them. You are awesome!!:) Thank you sooo much.....:)

  • @scarlett2806 Awesome! You're welcome!

  • your´re pretty

  • Thank you so much for you help teaching us how to answer the phone, hear you voice is so nice greetings from Vancouver BC from Zuky

  • ...so there is a little mismatch. What I mean to say is that your phrases are great and your pronounciation too, but your comments on these phrases are too difficult for starters. Those who understand your explanations don't need to learn the phrases like: hello, how are you. And those who need simply don't understand all the other information.

    Thanks for your work.

  • @84toughgirl This lesson comes with a transcript and is at the perfect level for Intermediate/Advanced English students. It is not a vocabulary lesson for phrases like "How are you?" but a lesson that includes specific points of culture and pronunciation, with terms that would confuse probably 40% of Americans, e.g. 'diphthong.'

Also, don't use 'to my mind' ever again. I suppose you employ it here as a filler word e.g. 'значит' in Russian, but a native speaker would just use 'I think.'

  • Dear Rachel! Its really nice of you to help people in learning English as their second language. I'm sorry to tell that but your lesson has some negative points to my mind. I've been learning english for 10 years. So I can understand such words as: vowels, rising intonations, consonants, stressed sillables, etc.

The phrases that you try to teach people is for beginners (saying "hello" or "how are you"), but only people with intermediate level can understand your explanations.

  • thank you so much Rachel

  • @STEVEmurano You're very welcome!

  • lol !!im american i didnt even notice we answered the phone saying hello in that tone as a question, but its true! its a habit

  • you are awesome!

    I can understand!!

  • Hello Rachel, I've seen some of your videos, they are excellent!!

    Regards,

    Sebastián

  • im american watching this makes me feel so smart

  • @zmanabc1234 Lmao xD Me too.

  • @zmanabc1234 Watching this and reading your comment made me feel so stupid:))

  • @zmanabc1234 If you REALLY want to feel smart, learn "La Macarena"

  • @zmanabc1234 Well, learn another language and you will realize how dumb you are......LoL, Just kidding

  • You're a great teacher!!!

  • @Kitsomboonloha Thanks!!!

  • Your breaking down of "How can I help you/?" made me realize as an English speaker just how Nordic/Germanic English sounds. Somewhat close to Icelandic.

  • wow you helped me alot love american accent looking forward to learn american accent and how to answer the phone in american i love you!! 5****** and subs :):):):)
